Description
The present invention relates to an ink jet printer in which ink is supplied from an ink cartridge to an ink jet head via a sub tank.
As an ink jet printer, an ink jet printer having a configuration in which ink is supplied from an ink cartridge to a sub tank and ink is supplied from the sub tank to an ink jet head is widely known.
In the ink jet printer having such a configuration, generally, the ink discharge operation is stabilized by maintaining a negative pressure due to a water head difference between the nozzle surface of the ink jet head and the ink liquid surface in the sub tank. However, if such negative pressure is maintained, the ink level in the sub-tank will drop if printing is continued while replacing the ink cartridge, so that the above water head difference cannot be maintained, and the negative pressure state changes. In addition, printing cannot be continued because stable discharge operation cannot be performed.
As a countermeasure, according to Patent Document 1, when ink in an ink cartridge is likely to be emptied, it is impossible to continue printing by informing the user of ink replacement at an early stage and preparing a replacement ink cartridge. Trying to shorten the time.
However, in Patent Document 1, although the time during which printing cannot be continued can be shortened, printing cannot be continued while the ink cartridge is being replaced, as in the past.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide an ink jet printer that allows continuation of printing even during replacement of an ink cartridge.
In order to achieve the above object, the first feature of the ink jet printer according to the present invention is that an ink cartridge containing ink, a sub tank to which ink is supplied from the ink cartridge, and ink to be supplied from the sub tank. Time and time required for replacement can be greatly reduced.
According to the third feature of the ink jet printer according to the present invention, the water head difference can be maintained only by tilting the sub tank without changing the configuration of the sub tank, and the member cost is reduced as compared with the sub tank using the special member.

It is not something specific. The embodiments of the present invention can be implemented with various modifications without departing from the scope of the invention.
[First Embodiment]
First, the first embodiment will be described. 1 and 2 are both schematic diagrams of the ink jet printer according to the present embodiment. FIG. 1 shows a state in which the sub tank described later is not tilted, and FIG. 2 shows a state in which the sub tank is tilted. FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing the sub tank and a displacement mechanism for displacing the ink liquid level in the sub tank. FIG. 3A is a view when the sub tank is not tilted (that is, when it is horizontal), and FIG. Each time. In FIG. 3, the ink liquid level in the sub tank is drawn by a solid line for easy understanding.

In the inkjet printer 10 of the present embodiment, an
The
Here, “within the set range” means that the
Further, the
The liquid
The
The
The
FIG. 4 is a schematic side sectional view for explaining detection by the liquid
In the present embodiment, the
When the
The
The side wall 14W2 is a side wall sandwiching the outer wall 14W1 where the
Further, as shown in FIG. 3, the
The inclination
As a result, the
The
The
In addition, it is also possible to use a magnetic sensor instead of such an optical sensor as the plate part detector 62.
(Function, effect)
Hereinafter, the operation and effect of the present embodiment will be described. FIG. 5 is a control flow diagram of the inkjet printer 10 of the present embodiment. The
In the case of Yes in step S1, the
When the ink in the
In the case of Yes in step S3, the
Further, when the ink in the
As a result, as shown in FIG. 3B, the liquid
As the ink in the
If Yes in step S6, the
In the case of No in step S7, the process returns to step S5, and the
That is, by repeating No in step S5, the inclination angle θ increases stepwise. Thus, even if the ink in the
Here, when the sub-tank 14 is tilted by the
If the user continues printing while recognizing that the
When the sub-tank 14 is displaced by being tilted, the
When the
In the present embodiment, the liquid
In the present embodiment, the
[Second Embodiment]
Next, a second embodiment will be described. The present embodiment is an example of an ink jet printer having a plurality of ink cartridges that contain different ink types (for example, colors) as compared to the first embodiment.
The ink jet printer of this embodiment includes the plurality of ink cartridges, a plurality of sub tanks connected to the respective ink cartridges, and a displacement mechanism provided for each sub tank. Accordingly, the tilt angle of each sub tank, that is, the height of the
FIG. 6 is a perspective view showing that the sub tank is inclined in the reverse direction (that is, the direction in which the inclination angle θ shown in FIG. 3B is negative) in the inkjet printer of this embodiment. In FIG. 6, the ink liquid level in the sub tank is drawn with a solid line for easy understanding.
In the present embodiment, as shown in FIG. 6, each
(Function, effect)
Hereinafter, the operation and effect of the present embodiment will be described. FIG. 7 is a control flow diagram of the inkjet printer 10 of the present embodiment.
In the present embodiment, when the liquid
Further, the
In the case of Yes in step S13, the
If No in step S13, the
If No in step S16, the process returns to step S12. In the case of Yes in step S16, the ink supply to the
Therefore, in this embodiment, when it is detected that there is no ink in any of the ink cartridges, the
As shown in FIG. 6, when the
Therefore, even when the
Further, when it is detected that there is no ink in the ink cartridge and the ink amount of the other ink cartridge is smaller than a predetermined amount, ink is supplied from the other ink cartridge to the
[Third Embodiment]
Next, a third embodiment will be described. In the present embodiment, compared to the first embodiment, two subtanks are provided for one ink cartridge. It is possible to provide three or more sub tanks. 8 and 9 are both schematic views of the ink jet printer according to the present embodiment. FIG. 8 shows a state where the sub tank is not tilted, and FIG. 9 shows a state where the sub tank is tilted.
The
An ink supply

10A and 10B are perspective views showing the
In FIG. 10, the ink liquid level in the
The
A liquid
Further, an
In this embodiment, when the ink liquid level 74SL is detected in the
Ink that has not been used in the
If the ink level 74SU of the
If the ink level 74SU in the
Here, the
In the present embodiment, “within the set range” means that the
Thereby, even in the ink circulation type
Further, when the ink in the
