Description
The present invention relates to a high voltage circuit used in a photodetector for measuring light.
In recent years, photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), avalanche photodiodes, and the like have been widely adopted as ultra-high sensitivity photodetectors that are optimal in technologies that require detection of weak light, such as biological information measurement technology. ing. In particular, for photomultiplier tubes, for example, a sensitivity adjusting device for a photomultiplier tube as shown in Patent Document 1 below is known.
This conventional photomultiplier tube sensitivity adjustment device supplies a high voltage voltage applied between a first dynode and an anode from a variable voltage supply circuit to adjust the voltage value, while the photocathode and the first dynode. A voltage is applied from a constant voltage power source between and the applied voltage is kept at a predetermined constant value independently of the high voltage voltage supplied from the variable voltage supply circuit. Thereby, in this conventional photomultiplier tube sensitivity adjusting apparatus, the sensitivity can be adjusted without deteriorating the quantum efficiency and linearity of the photomultiplier tube.
By the way, photomultiplier tubes as photo detectors that are expected to be widely demanded in the technical field that requires the detection of weak light have been generally manufactured using vacuum tube technology, and as a result, miniaturization has been achieved. It was difficult, and mass production was also difficult due to the need for a manual part. In this regard, recently, the photomultiplier principle is based on the conventional vacuum tube method, but the micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology advances, so that the micro photomultiplier of the semiconductor structure is achieved. Tube production and mass production has become possible.
However, even in an ultra-compact photomultiplier tube having a semiconductor structure, the principle of photoelectron multiplication is the same as that of the conventional vacuum tube system, and thus a high voltage circuit is required like the conventional sensitivity adjusting device. This high-voltage circuit, for example, has achieved a certain size reduction by adopting a charge pump type or a ceramic transformer, but still has a large volume and can be configured on a semiconductor. Miniaturization has not progressed. For this reason, it cannot be said that the downsizing of the entire apparatus composed of the photomultiplier tube and the high voltage circuit has been sufficiently achieved, and it can be said that this hinders the mass production of the entire apparatus. Therefore, in order to stably supply a photomultiplier tube, which is expected to be increasingly demanded in the future, at a low cost, it is essential that the high voltage circuit can be made smaller and produced in large quantities.
In a photomultiplier tube as a photodetector, it is necessary to supply a high voltage voltage from a high voltage circuit to a plurality of dynodes on the principle of photoelectron multiplication. That is, when measuring weak light using a photomultiplier tube, it is necessary to handle a high voltage, and in order to ensure safety, it has excellent photometric performance. There is a possibility that the field in which photometry can be performed using a photomultiplier tube may be limited.
The present invention has been made in order to solve the above-described problems, and an object of the present invention is to achieve miniaturization and safety in a high-voltage circuit for a photodetector used in a photodetector for measuring light. The object is to provide a high voltage circuit for a photodetector.
In order to achieve the above object, a feature of the present invention is that a high voltage is applied to a photodetector that outputs a photodetection signal by multiplying photoelectrons emitted upon reception of light propagated in a predetermined medium. A high-voltage circuit for a photodetector that supplies a plurality of photovoltaic elements electrically connected in series, and the high-voltage power generated by the photovoltaic element is supplied to the photodetector. It is provided with a photovoltaic unit to be supplied and a light source unit that emits light having a predetermined wavelength to the photovoltaic unit.
In this case, the plurality of photovoltaic elements constituting the photovoltaic unit may be, for example, a plurality of solar cells, and the light source unit may be, for example, a light emitting diode that emits light having a predetermined wavelength. In this case, the plurality of solar cells constituting the photovoltaic unit are integrally formed on one semiconductor, and the light emitting diodes of the light source unit are integrally formed on the one semiconductor. can do. In this case, the plurality of solar cells are formed linearly on one semiconductor, or the plurality of solar cells are formed circularly on one semiconductor, that is, the plurality of solar cells. Solar cells are formed in a two-dimensional form on a single semiconductor, or the plurality of solar cells are layered with respect to light emitted from the light source unit on one semiconductor, that is, three-dimensional. Can be formed. In these cases, the photodetector high voltage circuit may be integrally formed on the same semiconductor as the photodetector.
According to these, it is possible to reduce the size of the photodetector high voltage circuit to such an extent that it can be configured on a semiconductor, and it is very easy to stably supply high voltage power to the photodetector. In addition, for example, since the light source unit to which power is supplied from the outside and the photovoltaic unit that generates high voltage can be in a so-called photoisolation state, the high voltage can be separated extremely safely and reliably. Can do.
Further, in the high-voltage circuit for photodetectors, a light amount detection unit that is provided in an optical path from the light source unit to the photovoltaic power generation unit and detects a light amount of light emitted from the light source unit, and the light amount detection unit And a light amount control unit that controls a light amount of light emitted from the light source unit using the light amount detected by the light source.
According to this, since the light (light quantity) emitted from the light source unit can be reliably stabilized, the power generation efficiency of each solar battery cell forming the photovoltaic unit can be stabilized. As a result, in the photodetector supplied with power from the high voltage circuit for the photodetector, for example, the secondary electron emission effect is stabilized, and the secondary electron emission state, that is, the multiplication gain can be stabilized. The detection accuracy of weak light can be improved.
In these cases, it is preferable to include a light shielding cover that includes at least the photovoltaic power generation unit and the light source unit, and shields leakage of light emitted from the light source unit to the outside.
According to this, by covering and covering at least the photovoltaic power generation unit and the light source unit with the light shielding cover, it is effective that the light emitted from the light source unit leaks and reaches, for example, the light receiving surface of the photodetector. Can be prevented. As a result, the light emitted from the light source unit toward the photovoltaic unit in order to obtain electric power does not affect the photometry by the photodetector, and the photodetector accurately detects weak light. Can do.
Another feature of the present invention is that the photodetector has a cathode and an anode, and high voltage power supplied from the photovoltaic unit is provided between the cathode and the anode. It is also possible to employ a photomultiplier tube including a plurality of stages of dynodes for multiplying photoelectrons emitted from the cathode toward the anode in response to light reception. A connection terminal for taking out a predetermined high-voltage power from a predetermined position of the plurality of photovoltaic elements connected in series, the connection terminal and the dynodes in the photomultiplier tubes, Are electrically connected to each other to supply a predetermined high voltage power to each of the dynodes. In this case, it is preferable to provide the photovoltaic unit for supplying a predetermined high voltage power to each dynode in the photomultiplier tube.
Usually, in a photomultiplier tube, a plurality of bleeder resistors are conventionally provided to supply a predetermined high voltage power to the dynode, and the high voltage power supplied in a batch is passed through the bleeder resistor. As a result, the voltage required for each dynode is divided. On the other hand, in the present invention, a connection terminal for taking out a predetermined high voltage power from a predetermined position of a plurality of photovoltaic elements electrically connected in series is formed in the photovoltaic unit. Since the terminal and each dynode in the photomultiplier tube can be electrically connected to supply a predetermined high voltage power to each dynode, the bleeder resistance can be omitted.
Therefore, when power is supplied from the high-voltage circuit for photodetectors to each dynode of the photomultiplier tube, useless power is not consumed by each bleeder resistor, and each dynode has an appropriate secondary electron emission effect. It can be demonstrated. In addition, since the bleeder resistance can be omitted, for example, in the case where a photomultiplier tube is formed on a semiconductor by MEMS technology, the high voltage circuit for the photodetector can be easily formed integrally, and more compact. Can be achieved.
In addition, the light source unit is provided corresponding to each of the photovoltaic units that supply a predetermined high voltage power for each of the dynodes in the photomultiplier tube, and from the light source unit for each dynode. A light amount detection unit that is provided in an optical path to the photovoltaic unit and detects the amount of light emitted from the light source unit, and light emitted from the light source unit using the light amount detected by the light amount detection unit A light amount control unit for controlling the light amount of the light source, including at least the photovoltaic power generation unit, the light source unit, and the light amount detection unit, and a light shielding cover for shielding leakage of light emitted from the light source unit to the outside for each dynode It is good to prepare for.
According to this, by covering the photovoltaic power generation unit, the light source unit, and the light amount detection unit for each dynode with the light shielding cover, the voltage supplied to each dynode can be controlled finely and stably, and power is obtained. Therefore, the light emitted from the light source unit does not affect the photometry by the photomultiplier tube. In addition, since the voltage supplied to each dynode can be finely and stably controlled, the secondary electron emission effect by each dynode is stabilized, and the secondary electron emission state, that is, the multiplication gain can be stabilized. it can.
In this case, the light amount control unit may include an input unit for inputting an external instruction signal related to the light emission operation by the light source unit from the outside. In this case, the input unit of the light amount control unit includes the input unit. A modulator that outputs a modulation signal as the external instruction signal is connected, and the modulation signal may be, for example, a frequency modulation signal or a spread spectrum signal. In this case, the modulator also outputs the modulation signal to a light source that emits light toward a predetermined medium, and the light source is based on the modulation signal output from the modulator. The modulated light modulated in this manner may be emitted into the predetermined medium. In this case, the predetermined medium from which the light source emits the modulated light is preferably a living body, for example.
According to these, each light source unit emits light, which is modulated based on an external instruction signal (specifically, a modulation signal) output from the light amount control unit, toward the photovoltaic unit. Outputs power reflecting the modulation by the external instruction signal (specifically, the modulation signal). For this reason, in each dynode of a photomultiplier tube, an external instruction | indication signal (specifically modulation signal) is acquired via a photovoltaic unit. Therefore, when the light modulated by the modulation signal propagates through the medium (living body) and is received by the photomultiplier tube, the photoelectrons emitted along with this light reception are related to the inside of the photomultiplier tube. The heterodyne processing can be performed at each dynode affected by the external instruction signal (specifically, the modulation signal). For this reason, the signal-to-noise ratio can be improved as compared with the case where the signal processing is performed after becoming an electric signal, and the circuit can be simplified.
Furthermore, another feature of the present invention is that an avalanche photodiode that multiplies photoelectrons emitted with light reception using high-voltage power supplied from the photovoltaic unit can be adopted as the photodetector. There is also. Even in this case, the high-voltage circuit for photodetectors can be reduced in size to the extent that it can be configured on a semiconductor, and high-voltage power can be very easily and stably supplied to the avalanche photodiode. In addition, for example, since the light source unit to which power is supplied from the outside and the photovoltaic unit that generates high voltage can be in a so-called photoisolation state, the high voltage can be separated extremely safely and reliably. Can do.

The
In the
The
In the
As shown in FIG. 1, the
In the
As can be understood from the above description, according to the first embodiment, the high-
b. Second Embodiment In the first embodiment, the operating
In the second embodiment, as shown in FIG. 3, the
As described above, in the second embodiment, the
b-1. Modification of Second Embodiment In the second embodiment, the photovoltaic
c. Third Embodiment In each of the above embodiments and modifications, the
In the third embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5, the
In the
Therefore, in this 3rd Embodiment, since the light (light quantity) emitted from the
d. Fourth Embodiment As described in the above embodiments and modifications, the
In the fourth embodiment, as shown in FIG. 6, in the
d-1. Modification of Fourth Embodiment In the fourth embodiment, the entire photovoltaic
e. Fifth Embodiment In each of the above-described embodiments and modifications, the
In the fifth embodiment, as shown in FIG. 8, each light
In the
Here, a case where the
In this case, as shown in FIG. 9, the
On the other hand, the
This will be described in more detail by way of example. For example, a rectangular wave of 100.000 MHz is used as the modulation signals SIGi, SIGj, SIGk..., And a rectangular wave of 100.500 MHz is used as the modulation signals SIGb, SIGc,. When used, a 0.500 MHz heterodyne signal can be captured at both ends of the
Thus, in the fifth embodiment, heterodyne processing can be performed in the
In carrying out the present invention, the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments and modifications, and various modifications can be made without departing from the object of the present invention.
For example, in each of the above-described embodiments and modifications, the
Further, in each of the above embodiments and modifications, as shown in FIG. 2, the p-type region and the n-type region in the PN junction of the
In each of the above embodiments and modifications, the photomultiplier tube 20 (PMT 20) is employed as the photodetector. In this case, an avalanche photodiode can be used as the photodetector, and the
In addition, as described in the above embodiments and modifications, the
In the fourth and fifth embodiments and the modifications, the
