Description
The present invention relates to a developing device using a liquid developer and an image forming apparatus provided with the developing device.
2. Description of the Related Art As an image forming apparatus, a wet type that forms a toner image using a liquid developer in which toner as a solid content is dispersed in a dielectric liquid serving as a carrier liquid is known. The wet image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive drum on which a toner image is formed, a developing device that supplies a liquid developer to the photosensitive drum to form a toner image on the photosensitive drum, and a toner image on the photosensitive drum. A transfer unit that transfers the toner image onto the paper, and a fixing unit that fixes the toner image on the paper onto the paper.
Non-Patent Document 1 discloses a cleaning blade that removes the liquid developer attached to the member to be cleaned by being pressed against the surface of the member to be cleaned that is in contact with the liquid developer in such a wet image forming apparatus. .
Non-Patent Document 1 discloses a developing roller as a member to be cleaned. The cleaning blade removes the toner remaining in the liquid developer from the surface of the developing roller after the toner in the liquid developer is supplied to the photosensitive drum. Non-Patent Document 1 describes that the cleaning blade comes into contact with the member to be cleaned when the image forming apparatus is operating, and is separated from the member to be cleaned when not operating.
The poor cleaning of the developing roller is caused by the toner rubbing between the cleaning blade and the developing roller. The toner scrubbing prevents the toner from moving to the photosensitive drum during the next developing operation, resulting in image quality defects. Further, the cleaning failure is caused by a change in the surface state of the developing roller or deterioration of the cleaning blade due to long-term use. For this reason, high cleaning performance is required to avoid poor cleaning. In the technique described in Non-Patent Document 1, an oil-repellent layer is provided on the surface of the cleaning blade in order to suppress toner sticking to the cleaning blade. However, when the developer is strongly adhered to the member to be cleaned, the above-described configuration cannot solve the cleaning failure.
On the other hand, when the pressure contact state of the cleaning blade is changed according to the operation or non-operation of the image forming apparatus as in the technique described in Non-Patent Document 1, the cleaning blade is more than necessary during the image forming operation. It will be brought into contact with the developing roller. In this case, the deterioration of the cleaning blade is promoted.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object thereof is to provide a developing device that suppresses poor cleaning of the liquid developer remaining on the surface of the developing roller, and an image forming apparatus including the developing device. .
A developing device according to one aspect of the present invention is disposed to face an image carrier on which an electrostatic latent image is formed and driven to rotate, carries a liquid developer containing toner and a carrier liquid, and is driven to rotate. A developing roller that supplies the liquid developer to the image carrier and a circumferential surface of the developing roller on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the developing roller with respect to a position where the image carrier and the developing roller are opposed to each other. A charging means for charging the toner in the liquid developer on the developing roller; abutting on a circumferential surface of the developing roller at a downstream side in the rotation direction from the facing position; A cleaning unit that removes the liquid developer under a predetermined cleaning condition; and a circumferential surface of the developing roller that is downstream of the charging unit in the rotational direction and upstream of the cleaning member in the rotational direction. Arrangement A surface potential detecting means for detecting the surface potential of the developing roller; and a cleaning condition changing means for changing the cleaning condition based on the surface potential of the developing roller detected by the surface potential detecting means. It is characterized by having.
According to this configuration, the charging unit that charges the toner in the liquid developer on the developing roller on the peripheral surface of the developing roller on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the developing roller with respect to the position where the image carrier and the developing roller are opposed to each other. Is disposed. Further, a cleaning means is brought into contact with the peripheral surface of the developing roller on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the developing roller with respect to the facing position. Further, a surface potential detection unit is disposed opposite to the circumferential surface of the developing roller downstream of the charging unit in the rotation direction and upstream of the cleaning member in the rotation direction. The surface potential detecting means detects the surface potential of the developing roller carrying the liquid developer charged by the charging means. When a cleaning failure occurs in the cleaning unit and the toner remains on the developing roller, the toner is charged by the charging unit. In this case, the surface potential of the developing roller changes as compared with the case where the toner on the developing roller is sufficiently cleaned. For this reason, it is detected by the surface potential detection means that the cleaning means has failed due to the change in the surface potential. The cleaning condition changing unit changes the cleaning condition of the cleaning unit according to the detection result of the surface potential detection unit. Accordingly, it is possible to detect the poor cleaning of the toner generated in the cleaning unit by the surface potential detection unit and reflect it in the cleaning condition of the cleaning unit.
In the above configuration, the charging unit charges the toner with a charge having the same polarity as the charging polarity of the toner, and the cleaning condition changing unit is configured to detect the surface potential of the developing roller detected by the surface potential detecting unit. However, when it is higher than a preset threshold value, it is preferable to improve the cleaning capability of the cleaning unit with respect to the developing roller.
According to this configuration, when a cleaning failure occurs in the cleaning unit, the toner having passed through the cleaning unit is given a charge having the same polarity as the charging polarity of the toner by the charging unit. As a result, the surface potential of the developing roller is highly changed by the charged toner. When the surface potential detection unit detects a surface potential higher than a preset threshold value, the cleaning condition changing unit increases the cleaning capability of the cleaning unit with respect to the developing roller. As a result, the toner in the liquid developer that has passed through the cleaning means is suitably cleaned by the cleaning means with improved cleaning ability.
In the above configuration, the surface potential detection unit is disposed to face the peripheral surface of the developing roller on the downstream side in the rotation direction with respect to the facing position, and the developing facing the non-image portion of the image carrier. It is preferable to detect the surface potential of the peripheral surface of the roller.
According to this configuration, the surface potential detecting means is disposed to face the peripheral surface of the developing roller on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the developing roller with respect to the position where the image carrier and the developing roller are opposed to each other. For this reason, the surface potential detection means detects the surface potential as compared with the case where the surface potential detection means is disposed opposite to the circumferential surface of the development roller on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the development roller relative to the position where the image carrier and the development roller are opposed. The degree of freedom increases in the arrangement space of the means. On the other hand, at the position where the image carrier and the developing roller face each other, part of the toner in the liquid developer is consumed on the image carrier side in the development process. For this reason, the surface potential may be detected in a state where a change in the surface potential due to the toner that has passed through the cleaning means and a change in the surface potential due to the toner consumed in the development process coexist. Even in such a case, according to the configuration described above, the surface potential detection means detects the surface potential of the peripheral surface of the developing roller facing the non-image portion of the image carrier. For this reason, the surface potential detecting means does not detect the surface potential affected by the toner consumed by the developing process. Therefore, the surface potential detection unit can accurately detect the surface potential changed by the toner that has passed through the cleaning unit.
In the above configuration, it is preferable that the surface potential detection unit is disposed to face the peripheral surface of the developing roller on the upstream side in the rotation direction with respect to the facing position.
According to this configuration, the surface potential detecting means is arranged to face the peripheral surface of the developing roller on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the developing roller with respect to the position where the image carrier and the developing roller are opposed to each other. In this case, the surface potential detecting means detects the surface potential of the developing roller before the toner moves to the image carrier side in the developing process. For this reason, the surface potential detecting means does not detect the surface potential affected by the toner consumed by the developing process. Therefore, it is not necessary to control the timing at which the surface potential detecting means detects the surface of the developing roller.
In the above configuration, the cleaning unit is a cleaning blade, and further includes a first driving unit that changes a contact pressure of the cleaning blade with respect to the developing roller, and the cleaning condition changing unit is configured to clean the cleaning unit. When increasing the capability, it is preferable that the contact pressure of the cleaning blade against the developing roller is increased by the first driving unit.
According to this configuration, the cleaning blade is disposed as the cleaning unit. In addition, a first driving means for changing the contact pressure of the cleaning blade against the developing roller is provided. The cleaning condition changing means increases the cleaning pressure of the cleaning blade by increasing the contact pressure of the cleaning blade against the developing roller by the first driving means. For this reason, even when a cleaning failure occurs in the cleaning means, the developer that has passed through the cleaning blade can be effectively cleaned. Further, it is possible to remove the toner that has passed through without adding other cleaning means.
In the above configuration, the first cleaning member is a rotationally driven cleaning roller, and the cleaning condition changing unit increases the number of rotations of the cleaning roller when increasing the cleaning ability of the first cleaning member. It is preferable.
According to this configuration, the cleaning roller that is rotationally driven is disposed as the cleaning means. The cleaning condition changing means increases the cleaning roller's cleaning ability by increasing the number of rotations of the cleaning roller. As a result, even if a cleaning failure occurs in the cleaning means, the developer that has passed through the cleaning roller can be effectively cleaned. Further, it is possible to remove the toner that has passed through without adding other cleaning means.
In the above configuration, the cleaning unit includes a first cleaning member that contacts the developing roller, and a second cleaning member that is disposed in a state of being separated from the developing roller, and the second cleaning member is The cleaning device further includes a second driving unit that contacts and separates from the developing roller, and the cleaning condition changing unit has a surface potential of the developing roller detected by the surface potential detecting unit higher than a preset threshold value. In this case, it is preferable that the second cleaning member is brought into contact with the developing roller by the second driving unit.
According to this configuration, the first cleaning member is in contact with the developing roller, and the second cleaning member is disposed in a state of being separated from the developing roller. When a cleaning failure occurs in the cleaning unit, the surface potential of the developing roller is detected by the surface potential detection unit. When the surface potential is higher than a preset threshold value, the cleaning condition changing means causes the second driving member to contact the developing roller with the second driving means. For this reason, the toner that has passed through the first cleaning member is effectively cleaned by the second cleaning member. In addition, since it is not necessary for the first cleaning member to come into strong contact with the developing roller, it is possible to suppress the deterioration of the first cleaning member.
In the above configuration, the image forming apparatus further includes a charging control unit that controls charging of the developing roller by the charging unit, and the charging control unit sets in advance the surface potential of the developing roller detected by the surface potential detecting unit. It is preferable that the charging operation of the toner of the liquid developer on the developing roller by the charging unit is stopped when the threshold is higher than the threshold value.
According to this configuration, when the surface potential of the developing roller detected by the surface potential detecting unit is higher than a preset threshold value, the charging control unit stops the charging operation to the developing roller by the charging unit. . When the charging operation by the charging unit is stopped, the electrical restraining force applied to the toner contained in the liquid developer is lost. As a result, the viscosity of the liquid developer on the developing roller decreases. The liquid developer having a reduced viscosity facilitates cleaning of the surface of the developing roller by the cleaning means. That is, since the liquid developer has the same effect as the cleaning liquid, the cleaning condition of the cleaning unit is preferably changed. For this reason, cleaning of the toner on the developing roller is effectively realized.
An image forming apparatus according to another aspect of the present invention includes an image carrier on which an electrostatic latent image is formed and driven to rotate, and the developing device described above.
According to this configuration, when a cleaning failure occurs in the cleaning unit, the toner in the liquid developer that has passed through the cleaning unit is suitably cleaned. As a result, it is possible to prevent the toner that has passed through the cleaning means due to poor cleaning from causing problems in the developing process of the electrostatic latent image formed on the image carrier. Accordingly, there is provided an image forming apparatus in which the toner image formed through the developing process is favorably maintained.
According to the present invention, it is possible to suitably realize cleaning of toner in the liquid developer remaining on the surface of the developing roller. In particular, even when the toner in the liquid developer has rubbed through the cleaning means, the surface potential detecting means detects the rub-off of the toner. As a result, it becomes possible to change the cleaning condition of the cleaning means according to the cleaning failure and remove the toner.

The developing
The
The liquid developer supplied from the
The developing

The

制御部500は、CPU(Central Processing Unit)、制御プログラムを記憶するROM(Read Only Memory)、CPUの作業領域として使用されるRAM(Random Access Memory)等から構成されている。

The
The

The

<About cleaning the developing roller>
Next, cleaning of the liquid developer LD on the developing
Prior to the developing operation at the developing nip N, the bias controller 502 (FIG. 4) controls the second applying
Thus, the toner moves from the surface of the developing
However, as described above, on the surface of the developing
In order to solve the cleaning failure in the developing device using the liquid developer LD as described above, in this embodiment, the cleaning failure on the developing
FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram showing the surface potential of the developing roller. FIG. 7 is a flowchart of the cleaning operation according to the first embodiment of the present invention. 4 and 7, the
When the developing
When the detection of the surface potential Vm of the developing
The relationship between the surface potential Vm and the potential threshold value VT at this time will be described below. FIG. 6A shows a state in which no toner adheres on the developing
On the other hand, FIG. 6B shows a state in which the toner adheres on the developing
Further, FIG. 6C shows a state in which defective cleaning occurs continuously on the developing
As described above, the surface
In the present embodiment, the potential threshold value VT stored in the
Thus, the cleaning
When the
As a result, the first developing blade 145 </ b> A and the second developing blade 145 </ b> B are continuously in contact with the developing
On the other hand, if it is determined in step S030 that Vm ≦ VT, the cleaning
As described above, in the present embodiment, the second developing
Next, a cleaning operation according to the second embodiment of the present invention will be described. In the present embodiment, compared with the first embodiment, the control after changing the cleaning condition is different, and the other configurations and controls are common. For this reason, it demonstrates centering on this difference and abbreviate | omits other detailed description.

In the present embodiment, after the second developing
Next, a cleaning operation according to the third embodiment of the present invention will be described. In this embodiment, compared with the first embodiment, the realization means for changing the cleaning condition is different, and the other configuration and control are common. For this reason, it demonstrates centering on this difference and abbreviate | omits other detailed description.
FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram illustrating the configuration of the developing
The first driving unit 551 (first driving means) is connected to the third developing
In FIG. 11, when the
In the present embodiment, the toner remaining on the developing
Next, a cleaning operation according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention will be described. The present embodiment is different from the first embodiment in the means for realizing the change of the cleaning condition, and is common in other configurations and controls. For this reason, it demonstrates centering on this difference and abbreviate | omits other detailed description.
FIG. 12 is a flowchart of the cleaning operation according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention. A schematic diagram of the developing
3, 4, and 12, when
That is, in this embodiment, when it is determined that a cleaning failure has occurred on the developing
The developing
Next, a cleaning operation according to the fifth embodiment of the present invention will be described. FIG. 13 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of the developing
The surface
The surface
In contrast, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, there is a space in the region downstream of the developing nip N as compared with the region upstream of the developing nip N in the rotational direction. . For this reason, the degree of freedom increases in the arrangement space of the surface
On the other hand, in the developing nip portion N, the toner is moved to the
The control flow of the cleaning operation according to this embodiment will be described in detail below. FIG. 14 is a functional block diagram of the

Referring to FIGS. 13 to 15,
When the cleaning operation is started, the
If the circumferential surface on the
In step S024, even when the image forming apparatus 1 is not performing an image forming operation (NO in step S024), the
In step S044, the cleaning
When the detection of the surface potential Vm of the developing
The
If the
On the other hand, if it is determined in step S054 that Vm ≦ VT (NO in step S054), the cleaning
As described above, in this embodiment, the surface
As mentioned above, although embodiment of this invention was described, this invention is not limited to these, For example, the following modified embodiment can be taken.
(1) In the above embodiment, the first developing
(2) In the above-described embodiment, the potential threshold value VT is shown as an aspect corresponding to the surface potential Vm0 when no toner is present on the developing
(3) In the above-described embodiment, the mode in which the cleaning operation is performed in a state where the developing bias is applied to the developing
