Description
The present invention relates to a carbon counter electrode and a dye-sensitized solar cell including the carbon counter electrode.
Dye-sensitized solar cells have advantages such as excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics and low manufacturing costs, and are attracting attention as a new type of solar cell.
A schematic structure of a dye-sensitized solar cell includes a working electrode made of a metal oxide semiconductor that has adsorbed a photosensitizing dye, and a counter electrode provided opposite to the working electrode, and is provided between the working electrode and the counter electrode. An electrolyte containing an oxidation-reduction pair (for example, I − / I 3 − ) is filled.
Since the counter electrode of the conventional dye-sensitized solar cell usually uses platinum, there is a problem that the manufacturing cost is high. Therefore, carbon-based materials exhibiting high conductivity at a low price have been regarded as promising as alternative materials for platinum.
As a counter electrode using such a carbon-based material, for example, in Patent Document 1 below, an electrode including a substrate and a conductive layer provided on the substrate and including carbon particles and a conductive binder and having a void formed therein is provided. Disclosed and proposed to provide excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics to the dye-sensitized solar cell by this electrode.
However, the dye-sensitized solar cell provided with the electrode described in Patent Document 1 as a counter electrode has room for further improvement in terms of durability.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, a carbon counter electrode capable of imparting excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics and durability to a dye-sensitized solar cell, and a dye-sensitized sun provided with the carbon counter electrode. An object is to provide a battery.
As a result of intensive studies to solve the above problems, the present inventor can solve the above problems if the electrode described in Patent Document 1 can sufficiently suppress the peeling of the conductive layer from the substrate in the electrolyte. I thought that. Therefore, as a result of further earnest studies, the present inventor can solve the above problem by interposing a layer having higher adhesion to the substrate than the conductive layer between the conductive layer and the substrate. As a result, the present invention has been completed.
That is, the present invention provides a conductive substrate, a porous layer containing carbon, a connection layer containing carbon and a resin that bonds the conductive substrate and the porous layer, and the carbon and the resin provided on the porous layer. and a cover layer comprising the porous layer, the gap in each of the connection layer and the cover layer is formed, the porosity of the connection layer is rather smaller than the porosity of the porous layer, the porosity of the cover layer Is a carbon counter electrode smaller than the porosity of the porous layer .
Since the carbon counter electrode of the present invention includes a porous layer in which voids are formed, it has a large specific surface area. Therefore, when the carbon counter electrode of the present invention is used as a counter electrode of a dye-sensitized solar cell provided with an electrolyte, electron transfer is efficiently performed between the electrolyte and the counter electrode.
In the carbon counter electrode of the present invention, the porous layer and the conductive substrate are bonded by a connection layer, and the connection layer contains a resin and has a porosity smaller than that of the porous layer. That is, the connection layer has higher adhesion to the conductive substrate than the porous layer. For this reason, in a carbon counter electrode, peeling with a porous layer and a conductive substrate is fully suppressed. Further, since the porous layer and the connection layer both contain carbon, the adhesion between the porous layer and the connection layer is high, and these layers also have high adhesion. Therefore, according to the carbon counter electrode of the present invention, excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics and durability can be imparted to the dye-sensitized solar cell.
Furthermore , peeling of the porous layer can be sufficiently suppressed by the cover layer, and the form of the porous layer can be sufficiently maintained. Therefore, the carbon counter electrode of the present invention can impart more excellent durability to the dye-sensitized solar cell than the carbon counter electrode having no cover layer.
In the said carbon counter electrode, it is preferable that the porosity of the said cover layer is larger than the porosity of the said connection layer.
In this case, when the carbon counter electrode is used as a counter electrode of a dye-sensitized solar cell containing an electrolyte, the electrolyte passes through the gap of the cover layer while ensuring sufficient adhesion between the cover layer and the porous layer. Easy to penetrate. Therefore, the carbon counter electrode provided with the cover layer has better durability and better photoelectric conversion for dye-sensitized solar cells than when the cover layer has a porosity of the connection layer or less. Properties can be imparted.
In the carbon counter electrode, the carbon contained in the porous layer, the connection layer, and the cover layer is preferably carbon black.
Carbon black has a particularly large specific surface area compared to other carbon materials. For this reason, when carbon black is used as carbon, the carbon counter electrode can impart further excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics to the dye-sensitized solar cell.
In the said carbon counter electrode, it is preferable that the specific surface area of the said porous layer is 100 m < 2 > / g or more.
In this case, more excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics can be imparted to the dye-sensitized solar cell as compared with the case where the specific surface area of the porous layer is less than 100 m 2 / g.
In the said carbon counter electrode, it is preferable that the content rate of the resin in the said porous layer is 10 mass% or less.
The resin contained in the porous layer binds carbon, and when the resin content in the porous layer is low, the porosity increases. For this reason, when the resin content in the porous layer is 10% by mass or less, the porous layer can have a higher porosity than when the resin content in the porous layer exceeds 10% by mass. It becomes possible to have a larger specific surface area. Therefore, the carbon counter electrode can impart further excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics to the dye-sensitized solar cell.
The present invention also includes a working electrode, a carbon counter electrode opposite to the working electrode, a sealing portion connecting the working electrode and the carbon counter electrode, and the working electrode, the carbon counter electrode, and the sealing portion. A dye-sensitized solar cell, wherein the carbon counter electrode is the carbon counter electrode described above.
In this dye-sensitized solar cell, the carbon counter electrode described above includes a porous layer in which voids are formed, and thus has a large specific surface area. Therefore, in the dye-sensitized solar cell of the present invention, electron transfer is efficiently performed between the electrolyte and the counter electrode.
In the carbon counter electrode, the porous layer and the conductive substrate are bonded together by a connection layer, and the connection layer contains a resin and has a smaller porosity than the porous layer. For this reason, according to the dye-sensitized solar cell of this invention, it becomes possible to have the outstanding photoelectric conversion characteristic and durability.
ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to this invention, the carbon counter electrode which can provide the photoelectric conversion characteristic and durability which were excellent with respect to the dye-sensitized solar cell, and the dye-sensitized solar cell provided with this carbon counter electrode are provided.

Further, in the dye-sensitized

Carbon is usually in the form of particles, and the average particle size of the particulate carbon is preferably 1 to 1000 nm, more preferably 1 to 50 nm. When the average particle size of the carbon is in the range of 1 to 1000 nm, the specific surface area is larger than when the average particle diameter is outside the range of 1 to 1000 nm.

The carbon paste for forming the first precursor layer further contains a solvent in addition to the carbon and the resin described above.

Next, a layer serving as a porous layer precursor (hereinafter referred to as a “second precursor layer”) is formed on the first precursor layer. The second precursor layer can be formed by printing a second precursor layer forming paste containing carbon, a resin and a solvent on the first precursor layer and then drying.

Example 1
First, a carbon counter electrode was produced as follows. First, a titanium substrate having a thickness of 40 μm was prepared, and a carbon paste for forming a first precursor layer was printed thereon by a screen printing method, followed by drying at 80 ° C. for 5 minutes. Here, as the first precursor layer forming carbon paste, 1 g of polyimide (hereinafter referred to as “PI”) is dissolved in 15 g of N-methylpyrrolidone to prepare a PI solution, and the PI solution has an average particle diameter of 30 nm. It was prepared by adding 1 g of ketjen black (hereinafter referred to as “KJB”). Thus, the first precursor layer was formed on the titanium substrate.
Next, after the second precursor layer forming paste was printed on the first precursor layer by a screen printing method, it was dried at 80 ° C. for 5 minutes. Here, as the carbon paste for forming the second precursor layer, 1 g of ethyl cellulose (hereinafter referred to as “EC”) is dissolved in 20 g of methanol to prepare an ethyl cellulose solution, and 1 g of KJB having an average particle size of 30 nm is added to the ethyl cellulose solution. This was produced. Thus, a second precursor layer was formed on the first precursor layer.
Next, after the third precursor layer forming paste was printed on the second precursor layer by a screen printing method, it was dried at 80 ° C. for 5 minutes. Here, the third precursor layer forming carbon paste was prepared by dissolving 1 g of PI in 20 g of N-methylpyrrolidone to prepare a PI solution, and adding 1 g of KJB having an average particle size of 30 nm to this PI solution. Thus, a third precursor layer was formed on the second precursor layer.
Next, the first precursor layer, the second precursor layer, and the third precursor layer on the titanium substrate were baked at 350 ° C. for 1 hour. As a result, voids were formed in each of the first precursor layer, the second precursor layer, and the third precursor layer. Thus, a connection layer was formed from the first precursor layer, a porous layer was formed from the second precursor layer, and a cover layer was formed from the third precursor layer. Thus, a carbon counter electrode was obtained.
When the porosity of the connection layer, porous layer, and cover layer was measured according to the BET method, the porosity was as shown in Table 1.
Further, the resin content in the connection layer, the porous layer and the cover layer was measured as follows. That is, first, a part of the connection layer, the porous layer and the cover layer was collected, and the collected material was diluted with a solvent to prepare a paste, and this paste was centrifuged to separate the resin. As a result, the resin content was as shown in Table 1.
Furthermore, when the specific surface area of the porous layer was measured according to the BET method, the specific surface area was as shown in Table 1.
On the other hand, a transparent conductive substrate prepared by forming a transparent conductive film made of FTO having a thickness of 1 μm on a transparent substrate made of glass having a thickness of 1 mm was prepared.
Next, an oxide semiconductor layer forming paste containing titania was applied onto the transparent conductive film and dried, followed by baking at 500 ° C. for 1 hour. Thus, a working electrode having a porous oxide semiconductor layer having a thickness of 24 μm was obtained.
Next, after the working electrode was immersed in the dye solution for 24 hours, it was taken out and dried to carry the photosensitizing dye on the porous oxide semiconductor layer. The dye solution was prepared by dissolving a black dye in 1-propanol solvent so that its concentration was 2 mol / L.
Next, on the porous oxide semiconductor layer, 0.05 mol / L of iodine, 0.1 mol / L of lithium iodide, 1,2-dimethyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide are added to 3-methoxypropionitrile. An electrolyte was prepared by applying an electrolyte solution prepared by dissolving id at 0.6 mol / L and 4-tertiary-butylpyridine at a concentration of 3 mol / L.
Next, the sealing part formation body for forming a sealing part was prepared. The sealing part forming body is prepared by preparing a sealing resin film made of 12 cm × 5 cm × 50 μm ethylene-methacrylic acid copolymer (trade name: Nucrel, Mitsui / DuPont Polychemical Co., Ltd.) It was obtained by forming a square-shaped opening in the stopping resin film. At this time, the opening was made to have a size of 2.8 cm × 4.8 cm × 50 μm.
And after mounting this sealing part formation body on a working electrode, the sealing part formation body was adhere | attached on the working electrode by heat-melting.
Next, another sealing part forming body is prepared, and this sealing part forming body is bonded to the surface of the carbon counter electrode obtained as described above facing the working electrode in the same manner as described above. I let you.
And the sealing part formation body adhere | attached on the working electrode and the sealing part formation body adhere | attached on the carbon counter electrode were made to oppose, and the sealing part formation bodies were piled up. And the sealing part formation body was heat-melted, pressing the sealing part formation body in this state. Thus, a sealing portion was formed between the working electrode and the carbon counter electrode, and thus a dye-sensitized solar cell was obtained.
