Description
The present invention relates to a laser device that optically amplifies pulsed seed light and outputs pulse laser light after the light amplification.
A laser apparatus having a MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) configuration including a seed light source and an optical amplifying unit optically amplifies the seed light output from the seed light source in the optical amplifying unit, and outputs the light amplified light.
As the optical amplifying unit, an optical amplifying medium including an optical fiber in which a rare earth element (for example, Yb, Er, Nd, Tm, Ho, Tb, etc.) is added to the core is preferably used. When rare earth element-doped optical fiber is used as an optical amplification medium, it is easy to handle because excitation light and laser light are confined in the optical fiber, and because it has good thermal radiation, a large-scale cooling facility is required. There are many advantages.
Among rare earth elements added to an optical fiber as an optical amplifying medium, Yb (yttrium) has a high conversion efficiency. Therefore, a Yb-doped optical fiber is widely used as an optical fiber for high power amplification. Like other rare earth elements, Yb is also excited by the supply of excitation light, and the excitation light that has not been absorbed is emitted from the other end of the amplification optical fiber.
In Patent Document 1, FIG. 5, it is disclosed that the pumping light is pulsed and matched with the end of the pulsed light of the pumping light to match the end of each injection signal (seed light) pulse. Each pulse of the injection signal (seed light) and the pulse of the excitation light are individually associated with each other. There is no disclosure about adjustment of the pumping light output when the seed light is switched from pulse oscillation to CW oscillation.
The MOPA-structured laser apparatus can obtain high-power and high-quality pulsed laser light, so that there is an increasing demand for applications such as processing and medical treatment. In such an application, there may be a part to be processed by irradiating a laser beam of a continuous repetitive pulse and a part not to be processed without irradiating the laser light. In such a case, it is necessary to start the output of the pulsed laser light from the laser device at a certain time and end it at another certain time. The start time and the end time may be determined at any time while measuring a target object in some tie-up operations. In any case, it is required to be instantly changeable. However, in laser processing, the laser irradiation state is switched to a high speed during processing that continuously irradiates a repetitive pulse so that laser processing cannot be performed. This is difficult as the speed increases, and various methods have been proposed.
In order to solve this problem, the inventor irradiates laser light by pulse oscillation of continuous pulsed light with a repetition frequency (hereinafter referred to as repetitive pulsed light) by direct change control of the seed light source with an optical fiber laser device of MOPA configuration. , Processing. In a portion where machining is not necessary, pulse oscillation is stopped and CW oscillation is set to a state where machining is not performed. Fast switching between machining and non-machining is possible by quickly switching between CW oscillation and pulse oscillation of repetitive pulsed light. However, in this method, a novel problem has been discovered that when the pulse oscillation is switched to the CW oscillation, the phenomenon that the amplification optical fiber constituting the MOPA may break may occur.
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and is a laser capable of high-speed response when starting and ending the output of pulsed laser light and suppressing damage to the optical amplifying medium.

The amplification
Absorption of excitation light in the amplification

In the seed light source, it is possible to select a pulse operation or a CW operation by receiving a pulse pattern from the pulse modulator. The behavior of the CW operation or pulse operation of the seed light source affects the final laser output in the case of MOPA. In laser output, the difference between CW operation and pulse operation is instantaneous output. In CW operation, since it is a continuous wave, the output is always constant, whereas in pulse operation, it concentrates on a short time of 1 pulse. Therefore, the output can be several thousand times the CW output. Utilizing this characteristic, in the processing field, processing that cannot be processed with CW output has been achieved.
FIG. 3 shows the behavior of the CW operation and the pulse operation with the seed light source. The seed light source shows an operation of continuously oscillating a plurality of pulse lights for a predetermined period after CW oscillation and then returning to CW oscillation. The power level in the steady state of CW oscillation is set to an output that matches the peak level of pulse oscillation. This eliminates the work of adjusting the peak level of pulse oscillation when switching from CW oscillation to pulse oscillation, and enables laser processing On / Off.
The seed light output gradually recovers the output power to the steady state level of CW oscillation. The output wavelength of YbDF is 1060 nm during pulse oscillation, but other than 1060 nm due to self-oscillation of ASE light during CW oscillation (for example, the 1030 nm band for the single clad type and 1040 to 1050 nm for the double clad type). Oscillates at a band) and outputs a power stronger than the fundamental wave of 1060 nm.
FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating an operation example at the start of output of the laser device 1 of the comparative example when the seed light output control of FIG. 3 is performed. As shown in FIG. 5A, when the start of the seed light output is instructed by the external trigger voltage changing from the low level to the high level, a certain delay time elapses from the output start instruction time. After that, the pulse operation of the laser beam is started. This delay time is determined by the time required for the external trigger voltage to reach a certain level from the low level and the time required for processing necessary when the
FIG. 3B repeatedly outputs pulses having a constant pulse width and a constant pulse width as shown in FIG. When the external trigger voltage changes from the high level to the low level, CW oscillation occurs after a certain delay time has elapsed from the output start instruction time, and CW light is output. At the rising edge of the CW oscillation, the power level at the time when the repetitive pulse is off is changed from the power level at the steady state of the CW oscillation over a predetermined time (TSeed pulse → CW) to change rapidly. FIG. 3C shows the pumping light output, the driving current of the pumping light source is set to be constant, and the pumping light power is constant.
FIG. 4D shows the laser output. The laser output indicates output power based on a voltage value of photoelectric conversion when laser light from the
In the steady state of CW oscillation, the output is always constant, but usually does not cause a problem at a low power level. During repetitive pulse oscillation, a certain level of peak power is output to perform laser processing, but the laser output is performed at an output level that does not destroy the optical amplification section. However, the pulse waveform of the pulse laser beam that is finally output at the end of output has a peak power that is more than twice as high as that of other pulse laser beams before that, and has a wide bottom width of 1 μm. It has become. This is considered to be due to the influence of the portion where the seed light is pulsed when the CW oscillation shown in the previous figure rises. It is presumed that the bottom width of the pulse is expanded and the peak power is increased due to the influence of this portion. When the pulse oscillation is completed, the excitation light that is no longer consumed for the amplification of the seed light becomes ASE light, and it becomes easy to self-oscillate, and the peak power may be increased by that amount. Due to these factors, it is understood that if the pumping light power at the optical amplifier is large, a huge pulse is generated at the rising edge of the CW oscillation, and there is a risk of damaging the

For the excitation light trigger signal, the external trigger voltage changes from the high level V1on to the low level V1off at the timing T2, so that the drive current of the excitation light source changes from the high level I1 to the low level I2 at the timing tp1. At a timing tp2 a little after tp1, the level changes from the low level I2 to the high level I1. That is, the timing tp1 and the timing tp2 are set based on the timing T2.
In FIG. 6, the timing relationship between the seed light trigger voltage and the excitation light trigger voltage is in the order of ts1, tp1, ts2, tp2, and ts3. Note that the timing chart of FIG. 6 is a diagram on the assumption that there is no timing difference in the input of pumping light and seed light to the
The low level I2 of the pumping light power control signal may be a level at which no pumping light is output from the pumping
When the operation of the seed light source is switched from the pulse operation to the CW operation, as shown in FIG. 3, since the seed light source output can be a weaker output condition than the normal CW output, the gain of the ASE light is higher than the seed light gain at the CW output. This increases the risk of damaging the optical amplification section. In order to avoid the risk, it is preferable to lower the pumping light input power to a predetermined power threshold level at which the amplification fiber does not break. In order to reduce the influence of the high peak power value due to the transient response of the rising edge of the CW light, it should be considered to reduce the accumulated pumping light power in the “time from the last pulse to the CW light input”. For example, the time until the CW light input after the last pulse is set short, or the pumping light power supplied at the last pulse is lowered.

FIG. 8 is a diagram illustrating an operation example of the output of the
この期間で、励起光出力が、ON(CW発振の定常状態やパルス出力状態を維持するパワーレベルの励起光出力)状態からOff(光増幅部への損傷を発生させないためのパワーレベルの励起光出力)状態へ移行する。
FIG. 8D shows the same laser output as in FIG. 4 during the period of “CW1” and “pulse”. In the switching control period, the seed light output indicates a transition period for switching the seed light output from the repeated pulse state to the rising to CW oscillation, as shown in FIG. During this period, the pumping light output is turned off (power level pumping light output that maintains the steady state or pulse output state of CW oscillation) and off (power level pumping light to prevent damage to the optical amplifier). (Output) state. As a result, the laser output during the transition period is reduced to a power level for preventing damage to the optical amplification unit. After the rising state to CW oscillation that may cause damage to the optical amplification unit has elapsed, the pumping light power is returned to the ON state, and the period of CW2 is reached. In this way, by providing the switching control period in the
As described above, the
FIG. 9 is a diagram illustrating a configuration of a
The
