Description
また、色素増感型太陽電池では、使用される色素の耐久性(耐候性、耐熱性等)が十分でない場合が多く、また、酸化チタンの光励起に伴って分解されたり、その合成にコストがかかるなど解決すべき課題を残すものである。
<1> 電子供与体を含有する電解質を介して配置されているアノードとカソードとを備えた光電変換素子であって、
前記アノードが、金属酸化物半導体の表面に、15〜33量体の金クラスターが担持されてなり、可視光応答性を有する金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体を含有する層が導電性電極上に形成されてなる光電極である光電変換素子。
<2> 前記金属酸化物半導体が、酸化チタンである前記<1>記載の光電変換素子。
<3> 前記金属酸化物半導体の形状が、粒状体又は膜状体である前記<1>または
<2>に記載の光電変換素子。
<4> 前記金クラスターが、25量体の金クラスターである前記<1>から<3>のいずれかに記載の光電変換素子。

本発明は、金属酸化物半導体の表面に、8〜250量体の金クラスターが担持されてなり、可視光応答性を有することを特徴とする金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体に係るものである。
本発明において、可視光応答性の観点から、適用可能な金クラスターは、8〜250量体であり、15〜33量体であることが好適である。特に、金クラスターが、実質的に25量体のみであると、可視光に対する応答性が特に高くなるため特に好適である。
このような原子数を有する金クラスターは、例えば、特開2007−45791号公報に開示されているような従来公知の製造方法によって製造することができる。
また、本発明に係る金属酸化物半導体は、可視光に対してのみならず可視光以外の紫外線や赤外線に対して光電気化学反応性を示してもよい。
ここで、保護剤とは、金クラスターの周辺に化学的あるいは物理的に結合、吸着する化合物であって、金クラスターの凝集を抑制し、安定化させるものをいう。
金クラスターが保護剤で被覆されていることによって、金クラスター同士の凝集が抑制されるため、金クラスターの分散性が高まり、金属酸化物半導体に吸着させたのちも凝集が起こりづらい。
また、保護剤で被覆された金クラスターは、適当な分離手段と組み合わせることで選択的に原子数を制御した金クラスターを得ることができるという利点がある。
物理吸着系保護剤は、ファンデルワールス力や静電相互作用により、金クラスターを被覆することができる化合物であり、ポリビニルピロリドン、ポリアクリロニトリル、ポリビニルアルコール、ポリアクリル酸、ポリアリルアミン塩酸塩、クエン酸などが挙げられる。
一方、化学吸着系保護剤は、金クラスターの金原子と化学結合することができる化合物である。具体的にはメルカプト基(−SH基)を有するチオール化合物が該当し、金クラスターと硫黄原子を介して強固な化学結合を形成することができるため好適である。
このようなチオール化合物として、分子量が100〜1000程度のチオール化合物が好適であり、具体的には、フェニルエタンチオール、メルカプトプロピオン酸、3−メルカプト安息香酸などのメルカプト有機酸、(N,N−ジメチルアミノ)エタンチオール塩酸塩などのメルカプトアミン、メルカプトプロピオニルグリシンやグルタチオン(γ−Glu−Cys−Gly)などのメルカプト基を有するアミノ酸やペプチドなどが挙げられる。これらのチオール化合物は、水溶性とするために、これをアルカリ金属塩や塩酸塩などの塩として使用することもできる。この中でも、メルカプト基を有するペプチドが好適であり、グルタチオンが特に好適である。
なお、本発明において、粒状体とは、粉体やその凝集体を意味し、その粒径や密度に特に制限はないが、通常、0.01〜500μm程度である。
粒状体は、そのまま使用してもよいが、適当な温度で焼結して焼結体として使用したり、適当な溶媒に分散することによって膜状体の原料としても好適に使用される。
また、膜状体とは、薄膜や、その積層体であり、その厚みは特に限定されないが、基板に成膜した場合の好適な膜厚は、0.01〜500μm程度である。
本発明で用いる金クラスターは、公知の方法に従って製造され、特に制限されない。好適な一例として、塩化金酸水溶液に必要に応じて上記保護剤を加え、氷浴下で水素化ホウ素ナトリウムなどの還元剤で還元する方法が挙げられる。保護剤の使用量は、特に限定されないが、金クラスター1モルに対して、通常、0.5〜10モル程度であり、好適には1〜5モルである。
金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体の製造方法は、特に限定されないが、製造した金クラスターを分散した溶液に粒状体や膜状体など適当な形状の金属酸化物半導体を浸漬する方法や金属酸化物半導体に金クラスターを含む溶液を滴下する方法が挙げられる。
また、金クラスター前駆体溶液に金属酸化物半導体を浸漬し、その後、金クラスターを析出させてもよい。
なお、金属酸化物半導体と金クラスターとの結合性を向上させる観点から、金属酸化物半導体に金クラスターを担持した後に加熱処理を行ってもよい。加熱処理を行う条件(温度、雰囲気)は、金クラスターが凝集しない条件で適宜決定される。
図1に示すように本発明の光電極1は、基板1a上に導電性電極1b、金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体層1cが順次形成された構造を有する。特に、基板1aおよび導電性電極1bが共に透明であるものが好適であり、そのような構成では、基板1a側および金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体層1c側のいずれから照射された光より、電流を取り出すことができる。なお、本発明において、「透明」とは、照射された光のうち、少なくとも可視光の一部が透過することを意味する。
一方で、金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体層1c側から照射された光のみを使用する場合には、基板1aおよび導電性電極1bが共に透明である必要はなく、透明でないものも使用できる。
基板1aの厚さは、特に制限はないが、通常、0.1〜10mmであり、必要な強度や光透過性などを考慮して適宜決定される。
導電性酸化物としては、スズドープ酸化インジウム(ITO)、フッ素ドープ酸化スズ(FTO)、アンチモンドープ酸化スズ(ATO)、アルミドープ酸化亜鉛(AZO)、ガリウムドープ酸化亜鉛(GZO)などが挙げられる。この中でも、透明で導電性が高い点から、ITOを使用することが好ましい。
金属薄膜としては、金、銀、白金、銅やこれらの合金などからなる薄膜が挙げられ、蒸着法やスパッタリング法によって製造される。
導電性電極1bの厚さは、充分な導電性を有する限り特に制限はないが、その好適な厚さは、金属酸化物からなる場合は、20〜1000nmであり、金属薄膜の場合は、5〜400nmである。なお、導電性電極1bは、通常、1種の原料からなる単層であるが、2種以上の原料からなる層や、複数の層であってもよい。
光電極として使用する場合における金属酸化物半導体への金クラスターの担持量は、多いほど可視光吸収性が向上する傾向にあるが、多くなりすぎると金属酸化物半導体への電荷移動が困難となる場合がある。そのため、好適な金クラスターの担持量は、膜の1nm2に対して金クラスターが1〜100個程度である。
本発明に係る光電変換素子10は、光電極であるアノード1Aと、カソード2とが電解質3を介して対向配置された構成であり、いわゆるサンドウィッチ型セルである。なお、アノード1Aは、上述した光電極1と同一である。
光電変換素子10の平面形状は、特に限定されず、正方形、長方形、ひし形、正六角形等隙間なく並べられる形状とすることが好ましい。大きさとしては、たとえば前記平面形状が正方形である場合、1辺が5mm〜50cm程度である。
電解質3の溶媒としては、例えば、水、アセトニトリル、メトキシアセトニトリル、炭酸プロピレン、炭酸エチレン、ジメトキシエタンや、それらの混合物などが挙げられる。
0.25mmolのテトラクロロ金酸をメタノール50mLに溶かし、1mmolのグルタチオンを加え、氷冷した。これに氷冷した0.2M NaBH4水溶液12.5mLを激しく撹拌しながら一気に加え、1時間反応させた。得られた沈殿を遠心分離(3000G、5分)により取り出し、メタノールで洗浄(3回)した。沈殿を室温で真空乾燥させ、こげ茶色のグルタチオンに保護されたAuクラスター粉末を得た。
濃縮ゲル用モノマー水溶液として、アクリルアミドおよびN,N’-メチレンビスアクリルアミドを94:6で混合した6重量%モノマー水溶液5mLに、1.5M Tris−HClバッファー(pH6.8)2.5mLおよび純水2.5mLを加え、重合開始剤(10%過硫酸アンモニウム)50μLおよび重合促進剤(N,N,N’,N’-テトラメチルエチレンジアミン)10μLを添加したものを用いた。
Auクラスター8mgをグリセリン-水(5:95in vol)混合溶媒2mLに溶解させた試料を作製した電気泳動ゲルに静かに重層し、192mMグリシンおよび25mMトリスヒドロキシメチルアミン水溶液中で150Vの電圧を9時間かけて電気泳動を行った。各サイズに分離したAuクラスターを含むポリアクリルアミドゲルをそれぞれ純水に12h浸漬し、Auクラスターを溶出させた。孔径0.2μmのフィルターを通すことにより、ゲルを除去した、15量体、18量体、22量体、25量体、29量体、及び33量体のAuクラスター水溶液を得た。
上述のAuクラスター粉末4.9mgを純水7mLに溶解し、グルタチオン130.7mgを加え、55℃で空気をバブリングしながら水溶液を撹拌して、Auクラスターのエッチングを行った。6時間後、得られた赤茶色の25量体の金クラスター(Au25クラスター)水溶液を孔径0.2μmのフィルターを通して回収した。余剰なグルタチオンを除去するため、Au25クラスター水溶液を分画分子量8000の透析膜に入れ、12時間透析を行った。透析中に生じた沈殿を孔径0.2μmのフィルターにより除去した。
なお、Auクラスター水溶液のpHが1から6において、酸化チタン電極に良好に吸着した。
また、上記光電極の製法において、15量体のAuクラスター水溶液に代わり、18量体、22量体、25量体、29量体、または33量体のAuクラスター水溶液を使用することにより、それぞれの原子数のAuクラスターで修飾された酸化チタン電極である実施例2(Au18クラスター)、実施例3(Au22クラスター)、実施例4(Au25クラスター)、実施例5(Au29クラスター)及び実施例6(Au33クラスター)の光電極を得た。
また、Auクラスターが担持されていない酸化チタン電極からなる比較例1の光電極を作製した。さらにAuクラスターに代わり、実施例4の光電極を大気中500℃で熱処理することで、直径30〜100nm(金原子数十万個に相当)程度の金粒子が析出した酸化チタン電極からなる比較例2の光電極を得た。
いずれの実施例においても光電流が確認され、25量体の実施例4が最も大きな値を示した。
実施例4の光電変換素子は、金クラスターを担持していない光電極を備えた比較例1の光電変換素子及び金クラスターに代わり、直径30〜100nm(金原子数十万個に相当)程度の金粒子を担持した光電極を備えた比較例2の光電変換素子と比較して、明らかに大きな光電流の値を示した。
電解液において、0.1Mのヒドロキノンの代わりに0.1Mのフェノールを使用した以外は、実施例4の光電変換素子と同様の構成のサンドウィッチ型セルを作製して、波長460〜800nm、光強度75mW/cm2の白色光を照射したところ30μA/cm2の酸化電流が流れた。このことから、本発明の金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体により、フェノールを光触媒酸化できることがわかった。

- 電子供与体を含有する電解質を介して配置されているアノードとカソードとを備えた光電変換素子であって、
前記アノードが、金属酸化物半導体の表面に、15〜33量体の金クラスターが担持されてなり、可視光応答性を有する金クラスター修飾金属酸化物半導体を含有する層が導電性電極上に形成されてなる光電極であることを特徴とする光電変換素子。 - 前記金属酸化物半導体が、酸化チタンである請求項1記載の光電変換素子。
- 前記金属酸化物半導体の形状が、粒状体又は膜状体である請求項1または2に記載の光電変換素子。
- 前記金クラスターが、25量体の金クラスターである請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載の光電変換素子。
