Description
The present invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus provided with an ink supply pump for supplying ink to a recording head.
A recording head in an ink jet recording apparatus has a plurality of nozzles that eject ink. In this recording head, the ink may thicken at the nozzle and the nozzle may become clogged, so the ink is forcibly ejected from the nozzle to discharge the thickened ink, foreign matter, bubbles, etc. clogged in the nozzle. Operation (purge operation) is performed.
Patent Document 1 discloses a recording liquid supply apparatus that uses a syringe pump as means for forcibly ejecting ink during the ejection recovery operation. In this recording liquid supply device, the piston is pulled to create a negative pressure in the cylinder to suck ink from the ink tank into the cylinder, pressurize the sucked ink by pushing the piston, push it out of the cylinder, and supply it to the recording head. To do.
In the case of a pump that pushes ink by a piston and pushes out ink in a space surrounded by the cylinder and the piston as in the syringe pump of Patent Document 1, the volume of the space is reduced after ink is fed. A small amount of ink remains on the inner side surface of the cylinder that formed the space before ink feeding, and was located outside the space after ink feeding. There is. The remaining ink thickens on the inner surface as time passes, and if this is repeated, ink may accumulate on the inner surface.
Accordingly, the present invention has been made in view of the above points, and an object of the present invention is to provide an ink jet recording apparatus including an ink supply pump capable of suppressing ink accumulation on the inner surface of a casing. There is.
The ink jet recording apparatus of the present invention includes an ink supply pump, an ink tank, a first flow path, a recording head, a second flow path, and control means. The ink supply pump has a casing that can store ink and a pressing unit that presses the ink in the casing, and ink can be fed by pressing the ink by the pressing unit. The ink tank stores ink. The first flow path connects the ink tank and the ink supply pump. The recording head is supplied with ink from the ink supply pump. The second flow path connects the ink supply pump and the recording head. The control unit executes a discharge recovery operation for controlling the pressing unit to recover the recording head from the clogged state . The pressing means includes a movable member that can move while sliding on the inner side surface of the casing, and a driving means that moves the movable member. In the discharge recovery operation, the control means moves the movable member in a direction to reduce the volume of the space surrounded by the casing and the movable member and presses ink in the casing to pass through the second flow path. After controlling the driving means to send the liquid to the recording head and finishing the ink supply to the recording head, the thickening of the ink adhering to the inner surface of the casing substantially proceeds. Within a short period of time, the movable member is moved in the direction of increasing the volume of the space to replenish ink from the ink tank into the casing, so that the ink in the casing reaches a predetermined amount. The drive means is controlled so that
In this configuration, after the ink is supplied from the ink supply pump to the recording head and the ink is forcibly discharged from the nozzle of the recording head during the discharge recovery operation, the control means adheres to the inner surface of the casing. The ink is supplied from the ink tank into the casing within a short time during which the thickening of the ink is not substantially progressing, and the pressure in the casing is adjusted to a predetermined amount. Control means. That is, after the feeding of the ink to the recording head is completed, in a short time to thickening of the ink adhering to the inner surface of the casing is not substantially proceed, the amount of ink in the casing Since the ink is replenished so as to be a predetermined amount, the predetermined range of the inner surface of the casing can be kept wet with the ink. Thereby, it is possible to suppress the ink from thickening and accumulating on the inner surface of the casing.
The type of pump variable dynamic member moves while sliding on the inner surface of the casing, the ink thickens and dried in the inner surface, the frictional resistance between the piston and the cylinder is increased by the thickened ink Therefore, the pump may be difficult to operate smoothly at the next ink feeding. Therefore, in this configuration, as described above, after the feeding of the ink to the recording head is completed, the short duration thickening of the ink adhering to the inner surface of the casing is not substantially proceed Meanwhile, since ink is supplied so that the amount of ink in the casing becomes a predetermined amount, accumulation of ink on the inner surface is suppressed, and an increase in frictional resistance between the piston and the cylinder can be suppressed. Thereby, the smooth operation of the pump can be maintained.
More specifically, examples of the ink supply pump include a syringe pump. In this case, the casing is a cylindrical cylinder, and the movable member is a piston that can be pushed and pulled while being inserted into the casing.
In the case of this syringe pump, the inner surface of the cylinder is likely to be exposed to the outside air, so that the viscosity of the ink tends to increase. Therefore, the present invention is particularly effective when a syringe pump is used.
The second flow path preferably includes a valve that can be opened and closed, or a check valve that restricts the flow from the recording head side to the ink supply pump side.
In this configuration, it is possible to prevent the ink from flowing backward from the recording head to the ink supply pump after ink feeding.
As described above, according to the present invention, it is possible to suppress the ink from thickening and accumulating on the inner surface of the casing.
Hereinafter, an ink jet recording apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

For example, the
As shown in FIG. 2, the
The
The
A space S is formed by the lower surface of the sliding

A
As shown in FIG. 2, the
The
In addition to the stored ink, air is also present in the upper portion of the
The
<Operation of inkjet recording apparatus>
Next, the ejection recovery operation of the
In the normal printing mode, the
When the command for the discharge recovery operation is issued, the
Next, in step S2, the
The amount of ink to be pushed out can be adjusted as appropriate by adjusting the amount by which the
After ink is ejected from the nozzles, a wiping operation for wiping off ink adhering to the lower surface of the
Next, in steps S4 and S5, the
First, in step S4, the
Next, in step S5, the
Next, in step S6, the
In the conventional ink jet recording apparatus in which ink is not replenished after ink is supplied to the
As described above, in this embodiment, the
That is, in this embodiment, after ink feeding, since ink is supplied so that the amount of ink in the casing becomes a predetermined amount, the inner surface of the casing can be kept wet with ink. Thereby, it is possible to suppress the ink from thickening and accumulating on the inner surface of the casing.
Further, in this embodiment, after ink feeding, since ink is replenished so that the amount of ink in the casing becomes a predetermined amount, accumulation of ink on the inner surface is suppressed, and frictional resistance between the piston and the cylinder is reduced. Can be prevented from increasing. Thereby, the smooth operation of the pump can be maintained.
Furthermore, in this embodiment, the casing is a cylindrical cylinder, and the movable member is a piston that can be pushed and pulled while being inserted into the casing. In the case of this syringe pump, the inner surface of the cylinder is easily exposed to the outside air, so that the ink thickening is likely to proceed. However, the configuration of this embodiment effectively suppresses the ink thickening. it can.
Further, since the
Note that the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and various modifications and improvements can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention. For example, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the pushing operation and the pulling operation of the piston are performed along the vertical direction has been described as an example, but the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, it may be performed along a direction such as a direction in which the piston is inclined with respect to the vertical direction or a horizontal direction.
Moreover, although the said embodiment gave and demonstrated the case where the cylinder was cylindrical shape, another shape may be sufficient.
