Description
本発明の第一の側面に従えば、多モード粒径分布を有する超硬度研磨剤粒子と及び結合剤相から構成される超硬度多結晶質複合材料とを含んでなり、該超硬度多結晶質複合材料が複数の間隙を規定し、該結合剤相がこの間隙に分布されて結合剤プールを形成する、研磨剤コンパクトであって、該多結晶質複合材料が平方ミクロン当たりの最適しきい値を超える結合剤プールを含むことを特徴とする、上記研磨剤コンパクトが提供される。
本発明は、高圧/高温条件下で製造された研磨剤コンパクト、具体的には超硬度多結晶質研磨剤コンパクトを対象とする。この研磨剤コンパクトは、最終構造において単位面積当たりの個々の触媒/溶媒又は結合剤プールの数を最適しきい値を超えて達成するようなやり方で、結合剤相が分布されることを特徴とする。
・特殊ケースの2つの分画
・3つ以上の分画
・AUH:全超硬度研磨剤相面積(平方ミクロン)
・AB:全結合剤相面積(平方ミクロン)
・NB:面積内に出現する全結合剤プール数
適切な2モードダイヤモンド粉末混合物が製造された。最初に、最終のダイヤモンド混合物中で1質量%となるのに十分な、サブミクロンの多量のコバルト粉末が、WCミリング媒体とともに、ボールミルを用いて、1時間メタノールスラリー中で脱凝集された。次に、1.5μmの平均粒径をもつダイヤモンド粉末の微細分画が、最終の混合物中で49.5質量%となる量で、スラリーに添加された。追加のミリング媒体が導入され、更にメタノールが添加されて、適切なスラリーを得たのち、さらなる時間、混和された。次に、約9.5μmの平均粒径をもつダイヤモンドの粗い分画が、最終の混合物中で49.5質量%になる量で添加された。再び、スラリーに、更なるメタノール及びミリング媒体が補充され、次に、更なる2時間混和された。スラリーがボールミルから除去され、乾燥され、ダイヤモンド粉末混合物を得た。
このコンパクトが、標準実用試験(standard application‐based test)で試験され、このコンパクトは、同様な平均ダイヤモンド粒径をもつ先行技術のコンパクトの特性を超えて、重要な特性が改良されたことを示した(比較例4を参照されたい)。図2は、本試験における同一ステージで、先行技術のコンパクト20(WC基板22、超硬度コンパクト層24、摩耗痕26)に対して、WC基板12、及び摩耗痕16を有する超硬度コンパクト層14を含むコンパクト10の関連する特性の画像を示す。ここで、先行技術のコンパクト20の高い摩耗割合、及びチップ化の証明がはっきりと示されている。
成分のダイヤモンド粉末の粒径が、表1に示したように変更されたことを除いて、実施例2及び3が、実施例1に記載したものと類似の方法を用いて実施された。
Claims (7)
- 多モード粒径分布、及び約12μm未満かつ約2μm超の全体的平均粒径を有する超硬度研磨剤粒子、並びに結合剤相から構成された超硬度多結晶質複合材料を含む研磨剤コンパクトであって、該超硬度多結晶質複合材料が複数の間隙を規定し、結合剤相がこの間隙に分布されて結合剤プールを形成する研磨剤コンパクトであって、平方ミクロン当たり0.45個超の結合剤プールが存在する、上記研磨剤コンパクト。
- 結合剤プールの数が、平方ミクロン当たり0.50個超である、請求項1に記載の研磨剤コンパクト。
- 結合剤プールの数が、平方ミクロン当たり0.55個超である、請求項1に記載の研磨剤コンパクト。
- 超硬度研磨剤粒子がダイヤモンドである、請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の研磨剤コンパクト。
- 超硬度研磨剤粒子がダイヤモンドであり、かつ超硬度多結晶質ダイヤモンド材料が0.5mmを超える層厚みを有する多結晶質ダイヤモンド層の形状である、請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載の研磨剤コンパクト。
- 多結晶質ダイヤモンド層の厚みが1.0mmを超える、請求項5に記載の研磨剤コンパクト。
- 多結晶質ダイヤモンド層の厚みが1.5mmを超える、請求項5に記載の研磨剤コンパクト。
