Description
図1に示したように、ツイストネマティック方式の液晶表示装置には、多数のゲート配線GL及びデータ配線DLが交差して構成され、サブ画素領域PAが定義される。各サブ画素領域PAごとにスイッチング素子である薄膜トランジスタTと画素電極112が第1基板110に構成される。非表示領域に構成されたブラックマトリックスBMと、特定の波長帯の光だけを透過させるカラーフィルター層126と、第2基板に、透明な共通電極122が構成される。第1基板110及び第2基板120には、液晶層130が構成される。
図3Bに示したように、ゲート配線GL及びデータ配線DLが交差して構成されサブ画素領域PAを定義して、ゲート配線と一定間隔離隔して共通配線380が構成されて、ゲート配線GL及びデータ配線DLの交差地点にスイッチング素子である薄膜トランジスタTを構成する。サブ画素領域PAには、共通配線380からデータ配線DLと平行な方向に分岐された多数の共通電極382が構成される。また、薄膜トランジスタTに連結される引出配線370から共通電極382間の離隔区間に、共通電極382と交互に構成された多数の画素電極372が構成される。このような構成で、画素電極372と共通電極382の離隔区間390は、横電界によって液晶を駆動させる実質的な開口領域に当たる。
図5に示したように、カラーフィルターの配置は、図3Aないし図4Eのカラーフィルターの配置と異なる。同一色を表示するカラーフィルターが相互に隣接に接するように、赤色R、緑色G、青色Bのカラーフィルターが順に配置される。同一色を表示する2つのサブ画素のうちの1つは、第1映像を生成するサブ画素であり、他の1つは、第2映像を生成するサブ画素である。
図6に示したように、液晶表示装置は、図3Aないし図3Cの液晶表示装置と制御セルの構造を除いては類似な構造である。
図7の液晶表示装置は、図5の液晶表示装置と制御セルの構造を除いては類似な構造である。
図7に示したように、制御セルは、図5とは異なり、第1電極556及び第2電極558は、デュアル映像表示の際の光遮断領域540に対応する領域にだけ構成される。

Claims (7)
- 多数の画素を有し、単一映像またはデュアル映像を生成する表示セルと;
前記単一映像を通過させて、前記デュアル映像のうち、第1映像を第1方向に案内し、第2映像を第2方向に案内する制御セルを含み、
前記制御セルは、交互に配置された第1領域及び第2領域を含み、前記単一映像に対して第1領域及び第2領域は透明であり、前記デュアル映像に対して、前記第1領域は透明であり、第2領域は不透明であり、および
前記制御セルは、第1基板及び第2基板と、第1基板及び第2基板間に位置する電気変色物質と、第1基板及び第2基板の内面各々に位置する多数の第1電極及び第2電極を含み、前記多数の第1電極が前記多数の第2電極にそれぞれ対応し、
前記多数の第1電極は互いに他と間隔をおいて配置され、前記多数の第2電極は互いに他と間隔をおいて配置され、および
前記第1電極は前記第1領域及び第2領域の双方に位置し、及び第2電極は前記第1領域及び第2領域の双方に位置することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記多数の画素は、前記第1映像及び第2映像各々を生成して、交互に配置された第1画素及び第2画素を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示セルが、液晶セルであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記液晶セルは、横電界方式の液晶セル、フリンジフィールドスイッチング方式の液晶セル、又は垂直配向方式の液晶セルを含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1画素は、第1サブ画素、第2サブ画素及び第3サブ画素を含み、前記第2画素は、第1サブ画素、第2サブ画素及び第3サブ画素を含むことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1サブ画素、第2サブ画素及び第3サブ画素を有する前記第1画素が配置され、前記第1画素と隣接して、前記第1サブ画素、第2サブ画素及び第3サブ画素を有する前記第2画素が順に配置されることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の表示装置。
- 前記電気変色物質は、酸化タングステンWO3、酸化モリブデンMoO3、酸化チタンTiO3、酸化バナジウムV2O5、酸化イリジウムIrO2、酸化ニオブNb2O5、又は酸化ニッケルNiOを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
