Description
光出口窓、光出口窓と反対側に位置した後壁、及び光出口窓と後壁との間に延びる端縁壁を備えた光混合チャンバを有し、後壁の表面は、後壁に垂直な軸線に対して比較的大きな入射角で後壁の表面に当たる光を鏡面反射するために実質的に鏡面反射性であり、
光を光混合チャンバ内に放出する光源を有し、光は、光出口窓に実質的に平行な方向で光混合チャンバ内に放出され、
光混合チャンバからの光を外部取出しする複数個の光外部取出要素を有し、
光出口窓に配置された角度的反射フィルタを有し、角度的反射フィルタは、複数個の実質的に透明な層で構成され、各層は、実質的に一様な層厚さを有すると共に屈折率を有し、2つの隣り合う層の各組は、互いに異なる屈折率を有することを特徴とする照明システムによって達成される。
Claims (17)
- ディスプレイ装置を照明する照明システムであって、前記照明システムは、
光出口窓、該光出口窓と反対側に位置した後壁、及び前記光出口窓と前記後壁との間に延びる端縁壁を備えた光混合チャンバを有し、前記後壁の表面は、前記後壁に垂直な軸線に対して比較的大きな入射角で前記後壁の前記表面に当たる光を鏡面反射するために実質的に鏡面反射性であり、前記比較的大きな入射角は60度よりも大きく、
光を前記光混合チャンバ内に放出する光源を有し、前記光は、前記光出口窓に実質的に平行な方向で前記光混合チャンバ内に放出され、
前記光混合チャンバからの前記光を外部取出しする複数個の光外部取出要素を有し、
前記光出口窓に配置された角度的反射フィルタを有し、前記角度的反射フィルタは、複数個の実質的に透明な層で構成され、各層は、実質的に一様な層厚さを有すると共に屈折率を有し、2つの隣り合う層の各組は、互いに異なる屈折率を有し、2つの隣り合う層の各組の、2つの隣り合う層相互間の屈折率の差は前記光混合チャンバ内に放出された前記光のどの偏光方向についても有効であり、前記角度的反射フィルタは、前記光出口窓の垂直軸線に対して比較的大きな角度をなして前記光出口窓に当たった光を反射し、前記垂直軸線に対して比較的小さな角度をなして前記光出口窓に当たった光を透過する角度的選択反射性フィルタとして働く、照明システム。 - 前記比較的大きな入射角は80度よりも大きい、請求項1記載の照明システム。
- 前記後壁及び各前記端縁壁の表面は、前記光混合チャンバ内で光を鏡面反射するために鏡面反射性である、請求項1記載の照明システム。
- 各前記端縁壁の表面は、前記光混合チャンバ内で光を拡散反射するために拡散反射性である、請求項1記載の照明システム。
- 前記光混合チャンバ内に放出された前記光は、あらかじめ定められた色の光を含み、2つの隣り合う実質的に透明な前記層の厚さの合計は、前記あらかじめ定められた色の前記光の波長の1/2に実質的に等しい、請求項1記載の照明システム。
- 前記透明な層の少なくとも1つは、前記光出口窓に実質的に平行に配置された複屈折対称軸線を備えた一軸層である、請求項1記載の照明システム。
- 前記光混合チャンバ内に放出された前記光は、前記光出口窓に実質的に平行な偏光方向を有する実質的に偏光された光である、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記光混合チャンバは、光導波路である、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記光導波路は、くさび形である、請求項8記載の照明システム。
- 前記光源は、前記光混合チャンバの前記後壁に分布して設けられた複数の側部発光型発光ダイオードから成る、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記光混合チャンバの前記端縁壁の少なくとも一方は、光入口窓を有し、前記光源は、前記光入口窓を介して光を前記光混合チャンバ内に放出するエッジ照明形態で配置されている、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記光混合チャンバの前記端縁壁の少なくとも一方は、光入口窓を有し、前記照明システムは、別の光混合チャンバを有し、前記別の光混合チャンバは、前記光入口窓を介して光を前記光混合チャンバ内に放出する、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記複数個の光外部取出要素は、前記後壁に実質的に一様な分布状態で設けられている、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記光混合チャンバ内における前記複数個の光外部取出要素の密度は、様々である、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記複数個の光外部取出要素は、鏡面反射性要素である、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 前記複数個の光外部取出要素は、角度的反射性フィルタ内に配置されている、請求項1、3又は4記載の照明システム。
- 請求項1〜16のいずれか1項に記載の前記照明システムを有するディスプレイ装置。
