Description
The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting the presence or absence of liquid and detecting the ambient temperature of the thermistor by utilizing the fact that the heat dissipation coefficients in gas and liquid due to self-heating of the thermistor are different.
However, since the liquid level meter shown in the above-mentioned conventional patent document 1 uses a thermistor with a small heat dissipation coefficient, the response time is as long as 180 to 400 seconds, and an empty display such as a gasoline tank that does not require much responsiveness is displayed. Although it can be used, it has been unsuitable for detection of an empty water heater such as a water heater that requires responsiveness. If the thermistor is further downsized to increase the response of the thermistor, the heat dissipation coefficient will increase, making it difficult to generate enough heat as a liquid level gauge from the viewpoint of thermal runaway, and the current value that causes thermal runaway It is known that depending on the ambient temperature, the lower the ambient temperature, the more thermal runaway occurs with a small current. For this reason, it has been difficult to realize a liquid level gauge with good response in a wide temperature range.
On the other hand, the thermistor is used by causing a current exceeding normal to generate heat. Here, if a current exceeding the normal value is passed through the thermistor, there is a problem that thermal runaway occurs above a certain current value. This current value becomes smaller as the ambient temperature of the thermistor is lower. Needs to have a current value that does not cause thermal runaway in the gas at the lowest temperature in the temperature range to be used. For this reason, if a thermistor with excellent response and small heat dissipation coefficient is used, there is a problem that sufficient self-heating does not occur in the high temperature range during liquid level detection, and sufficient sensitivity as a liquid level meter cannot be obtained. It was.
An object of the present invention is to detect the liquid level and thermistor ambient temperature quickly and accurately without causing thermal runaway in a wide temperature range even when using a small thermistor having a large heat dissipation coefficient. Is to provide. Another object of the present invention is to use a single thermistor having a large heat dissipation coefficient, so that the liquid level can be detected quickly without causing a thermal runaway in a wide temperature range and the storage space for the thermistor is not increased. An object of the present invention is to provide a device for detecting the liquid level and the thermistor ambient temperature. Here, “thermal runaway” will be described. When a voltage is applied to the NTC thermistor whose resistance value decreases as the temperature rises, a temperature rise determined by the resistance value and the heat dissipation coefficient according to the ambient temperature at that time occurs. Usually, the temperature is measured to such an extent that this temperature rise can be ignored (0.01 to 0.1 ° C.). On the other hand, in a so-called power thermistor used for detecting the liquid level, the thermistor is used under the condition that the heat generation of the thermistor is 40 to 150 ° C. The difference is detected. Here, when a predetermined voltage is applied to the thermistor, heat is generated when the resistance value decreases due to self-heating and the current value increases, and further heat generation occurs when the resistance value further decreases and the current value further increases. This is repeated until a predetermined temperature is finally reached. However, if the voltage applied to the thermistor is too high, the temperature of the thermistor rises above its heat resistance before the above loop converges, causing the thermistor to break (damage). This phenomenon is called thermal runaway.
As shown in FIG. 1, the invention according to claim 1 detects the liquid level by utilizing the fact that the
In the liquid level and thermistor ambient temperature detection device described in claim 1, when the
The invention according to
The invention according to claim 3 is the invention according to
The invention according to claim 4 is the invention according to any one of claims 1 to 3, and further, as shown in FIG. 1, the difference in output voltage between the
According to the present invention, a temperature detection circuit for detecting the ambient temperature of the thermistor is connected between the power source and the thermistor, and the reference voltage is used to change the characteristics of the output voltage difference with respect to the temperature of the thermistor in the gas and in the liquid. Alternatively, a switching circuit that changes either or both of the reference resistors is connected between the power supply and the thermistor so that the controller controls the switching circuit so that the output voltage difference becomes larger based on the detection output of the temperature detection circuit. Thus, when the temperature detection circuit detects the ambient temperature of the thermistor, the controller controls the switching circuit based on the detection output of the temperature detection circuit so that the output voltage difference becomes larger within a range where thermal runaway does not occur. Specifically, when the temperature detection circuit detects that the ambient temperature of the thermistor is equal to or higher than a predetermined temperature, the controller controls the switching circuit to the reference voltage and reference resistance that increase the output voltage difference within a range that does not cause thermal runaway. When the temperature detection circuit detects that the ambient temperature of the thermistor is lower than a predetermined temperature, the controller controls the switching circuit to the reference voltage and the reference resistance that increase the output voltage difference within a range where thermal runaway does not occur. As a result, even if a small thermistor having a large heat dissipation coefficient is used, the liquid level can be detected accurately without causing thermal runaway in a wide temperature range.
If the thermistor is a single high-speed response type thermistor, a single thermistor with a large heat dissipation coefficient can quickly detect the liquid level without causing thermal runaway in a wide temperature range, and increase the storage space for the thermistor. You do n’t have to. Further, if the thermistor is configured so that a current of 90% or less of the current value at which the thermistor starts thermal runaway flows, the thermistor reliably prevents thermal runaway even if the thermistor characteristics vary. be able to. Furthermore, if the controller controls the switching circuit so that the output voltage difference between the thermistor in the liquid and the gas is 5 LSB or more as the output value of the A / D converter, the output voltage difference between the thermistor in the liquid and the gas Since it is large, the liquid level can be reliably detected.
Next, the best mode for carrying out the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. As shown in FIG. 1, the liquid level and thermistor ambient

The
The

While the first and
Next, the operation of the liquid level and thermistor ambient

In the above embodiment, the output voltage difference of the thermistor is calculated by simulation by using the circuit shown in FIG. 1 and entering a specific numerical value for each element in the circuit. The present invention is shown in FIG. It is not limited to the numerical value of a circuit or each element. Further, as apparent from FIG. 5, it is understood that the peak of the output voltage difference of the thermistor can be changed by changing the reference voltage or the reference resistance. Therefore, the liquid level can be detected more stably and reliably by changing the reference voltage according to the ambient temperature. In FIG. 5, the points surrounded by a broken-line circle are points where the thermistor exceeds 50% of the current value at which thermal runaway occurs. Therefore, it is preferable to control the switching circuit so as not to include a point surrounded by a broken-line circle. In the above embodiment, the switching temperature of the ambient temperature of the thermistor by the switching circuit is 50 ° C. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and may be less than 49 ° C. or 51 ° C. or more. For example, it may be set to 2 points of 30 ° C. and 60 ° C., or may be set to 3 points or more, instead of 1 point of ° C.
