Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus, and more particularly, to an image forming apparatus including a recording head that discharges droplets and a maintenance and recovery mechanism thereof.
As an image forming apparatus such as a printer, a facsimile machine, a copying apparatus, a plotter, and a complex machine of these, for example, an ink jet recording apparatus is known as an image forming apparatus of a liquid discharge recording method using a recording head for discharging ink droplets. . This liquid ejection recording type image forming apparatus ejects a recording head or a linear drop onto a conveyed paper to form an image (recording, printing, printing, and printing are also synonymous). Serial type image forming device that forms an image by ejecting droplets while the recording head moves in the main scanning direction, and a line type that forms images by ejecting droplets without the recording head moving There is a line type image forming apparatus using a head.
In the present application, “image forming apparatus” means an apparatus for forming an image by landing ink on a medium such as paper, thread, fiber, fabric, leather, metal, plastic, glass, wood, ceramics, etc. "Image formation" is not only the application of images with meanings such as characters and figures to the medium, but also the addition of images with no meaning such as patterns to the medium (simply applying droplets to the medium) Also means landing). The “ink” is not limited to the ink, but is used as a general term for all liquids that can perform image formation, such as a recording liquid, a fixing processing liquid, and a liquid. The term “paper” is not limited to paper, but includes the above-described OHP sheet, cloth, and the like, and means that ink droplets adhere to the recording medium, recording medium, recording paper, recording It is used as a general term for what includes what is called paper.
An image forming apparatus that includes such a liquid ejecting apparatus to form an image includes a maintenance / recovery mechanism that maintains and recovers the performance of the recording head that ejects ink droplets. This head maintenance / recovery mechanism (device) sucks and discharges the ink that has been thickened from the nozzle, and a moisturizing cap member for covering the nozzle surface (surface on which the nozzle is formed) of the recording head with high sealing performance. A suction cap connected to suction means such as a suction pump (also used as a moisturizing cap), and a wiper member (wiper, wiper blade) for wiping and removing ink adhering to the nozzle surface ), A wiper cleaner (wiper cleaning member) for cleaning the wiper member, and an empty discharge receiver for discharging empty droplets that do not contribute to image formation.
By the way, in the image forming apparatus, in order to increase the printing speed, the length of the line type head or the like is being advanced. As the line type head, a plurality of heads having a plurality of nozzles for discharging droplets ( Some of them are also arranged in the nozzle arrangement direction. When such a recording head in which a plurality of heads are arranged is used, a cleaning unit such as a cap member or a wiper member is arranged corresponding to each head of the recording head as a maintenance / recovery mechanism that performs maintenance / recovery of the recording head. It will be.
Therefore, when a plurality of cleaning units are arranged corresponding to a plurality of heads in this way, a large number of drive sources (motors) are required to drive each cleaning unit, which complicates the configuration and increases costs. Will be invited. In addition, when it is desired to perform maintenance / recovery only on the head at a required location, in the cleaning means for cleaning a plurality of heads, a maintenance / recovery operation in which the cap member at a location other than necessary caps the head and sucks ink. Has a problem in that it consumes more ink than necessary and the efficiency is low.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems. In addition to being able to operate each of the cleaning units corresponding to a plurality of heads with a simple configuration, waste of ink due to wasteful maintenance and recovery operations being performed.

As a result, the entire capping unit including the

Further, the

Next, a drive mechanism that moves the cleaning unit 61 up and down (up and down) with respect to the nozzle surface of the head 51 will be described.

As a result, two shafts (

Similarly, wiper cams 92a and 92c that move the wiper blades 82a and 82c attached to one

However, the first cam 93 and the second cam 94 may be separate members.
The cap cam 91a1 for moving the cap member 81a1 up and down and the cap cam 91c1 for moving the cap member 81c1 up and down are formed so that the
Then, when each of the caps 81a1 and 81c1 rises (advances with respect to the head surface) when the
The position where the
Here, the
Further, when the cap cams 91a1 and 91c1 are rotated about a half turn, the
The cap members 91b1 and 91d1 for moving the cap member 81b1 and the cap member 81d1 of the cleaning means 61b1 and 61d1 moved up and down by the
The cam shape of the first cam and the second cam of the cap cams 91b1 and 91d1 has an angle and a shape in which each first cam sequentially reaches the top dead center at a position further deviated from the angle θ1 shown in FIG. In the subsequent second cam region, the cam is formed in the same shape as in FIG. As a result, the first cam of the cap cam 91b1 reaches the top dead center at a timing deviating from the angle θ1, and the first cam of the cap cam 91d1 reaches the top dead center at a timing further delayed from that point. Both the first cams of the cap cams 91b1 and 91d1 reach the top dead center. Further, at the position of the second cam after almost half rotation, the cap cams 91a1 and 91b1 reach the top dead center at the same timing.
Therefore, the vertical movement operation of the cap members 81a1, 81b1, 81c1, 81d1 and the cap cams 91a1, 91b1, 91c1, 91d1 in the first embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the timing chart of FIG.
First, when the
After this, the cap member 81c1 starts to rise, reaches the top dead center at time t2, and comes into close contact with the head 51c1. At this time, the cap member 81a1 remains at the top dead center, and both the cap members 81a1 and 81c1 are in close contact with the head. That is, in this state, the two heads 51a1 and 51c1 can be capped. Further, the two rows of heads 51a1-5 and 51c1-5 can be capped by matching the cap members 81a1-5 and 81c1-5 arranged in a direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction by motor control.
At the time point t3, the cap member 81a1 is lowered first, but the cap member 81c1 remains at the top dead center, and the head 51c1 is in close contact with the cap member 81c1. In this state, the heads 51c1 can be individually capped, and the cap members 81c1 to 81c5 arranged in the direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction are aligned by motor control, so that the heads 51c1 to 51c5 in one row can be connected simultaneously. It can also be capped.
At the time point t4, the cap members 81a1 and 81c1 are both lowered, and the cap member 81b1 is raised by the cap cam 91b1 attached to another
At time t5, the cap member 81d1 reaches the top dead center behind the previous cap member 81b1, and comes into close contact with the head 51d1. At this time, the cap member 81b1 remains at the top dead center, and both the cap members 81b1 and 81d1 are in close contact with the heads 51b1 and 51d1. In this state, the two heads 51b1 and 51d1 can be capped. Further, the two heads 51b1 to 51b5 and 51d1 to 51d5 can be capped by matching the cap members 81b1 to 81b5 and 81d1 to 81d5 by motor control.
At time t6, the cap member 81b1 has been lowered first, but the cap member 81d1 remains at the top dead center, and the head 51d1 is in close contact with the cap member 81d1. In this state, the heads 51d1 can be individually capped, and the heads 51d1 to 51d5 in one row can be simultaneously capped by matching the caps 81d1 to 81d5 by motor control.
At time t7, all caps 81a1, 81c1, 81b1, 81d1 simultaneously reach top dead center by the second cam, and all heads 51a1, 51c1, 51b1, 51d1 are brought into close contact with each other and capped.
Further, the cap member can be moved up and down with respect to the unit of 511 heads by motor control arranged in a direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction. That is, only one head 51 can be capped. As a result, unnecessary cleaning of the head and ink suction work are not performed, and cleaning work efficiency and wasteful ink consumption due to ink suction are reduced.
Thus, the maintenance / recovery mechanism has one drive source common to two or more cleaning means and a position rotated by the drive source so that at least two cleaning means can contact the nozzle surface of the head at different timings. A first cam corresponding to each cleaning means to be moved, and a second cam corresponding to each cleaning means for moving at least two cleaning means to positions where they can contact the nozzle surface of the head at the same timing. Because
A plurality of cleaning units corresponding to a plurality of heads can be moved individually or entirely with a simple configuration, and wasteful ink consumption due to wasteful maintenance and recovery operations can be reduced. .
Here, each of the first cams that moves the at least two cleaning units to a position where they can come into contact with the nozzle surface of the head at different timings sets the top dead center at which the cleaning unit can come into contact with the nozzle surface of the head. By adopting a shape in which the positions are partially overlapped, at least two cleaning means can be partially overlapped in time so that the cleaning means can be brought into contact with the nozzle surface of the head.
Further, as in the above-described embodiment, the plurality of heads and the plurality of cleaning units are arranged in at least a plurality of rows from the upstream side along the paper conveyance direction, and the first cam and the second cam are respectively provided for the even-numbered cleaning units. A first camshaft provided, and a second camshaft provided with a first cam and a second cam for the odd number of cleaning means, respectively, and the first camshaft and the second camshaft are rotated by one drive source The first cams of the even-numbered cleaning means and the first cams of the odd-numbered cleaning means can abut the even-numbered cleaning means and the odd-numbered cleaning means with the nozzle surface of the head at different timings. The second cams of the even-numbered cleaning means and the second cams of the odd-numbered cleaning means are the same as the even-numbered cleaning means and the odd-numbered cleaning means. The cleaning means is moved to a position where it can come into contact with the nozzle surface of the head at the same timing, so that a maintenance and recovery operation is required such as one cleaning means unit, each row unit, multiple row units, or the whole. More detailed operations can be performed according to the characteristics, wasteful ink consumption can be reduced, and the efficiency of the maintenance and recovery operation can be improved.
Next, the vertical movement of the cap members 81a1, 81b1, 81c1, 81d1 and the cap cams 91a1, 91b1, 91c1, 91d1 and the wiper blade members 82a1, 82b1, 82c1, 82d1 and the wiper cam 92a1, in the second embodiment of the present invention. The vertical movement operation of 92b1, 92c1, and 92d1 will be described with reference to the timing chart of FIG.
In this embodiment, the cam shape of the cap cams 91a1, 91b1, 91c1, 91d1 is the first half rotation part in one rotation of the cam (one rotation of the
Further, the cam shape of the wiper cams 92a1, 92b1, 92c1, and 92d1 is the second half rotation portion in one rotation of the cam (one rotation of the
Here, the timing of the vertical movement of the cap members 81a1, 81b1, 81c1, 81d1 and the cap cams 91a1, 91b1, 91c1, 91d1 is the same as that described with reference to FIG. 8, and in the example of FIG. The only difference is that the operation described with reference to FIG. 8 is completed during half rotation of the cams 91a1, 91b1, 91c1, and 91d1, and the relationship between the timings t0 to t7 at which the other top dead center is reached is the same.
On the other hand, with respect to the operation of the
When the
The wiper blade 82c1 starts to rise after this, reaches the top dead center at time t10, and comes into contact with the nozzle surface of the head 51c1. At this time, the wiper blade 82a1 remains at the top dead center, and both the wiper blades 82a1 and 82c1 are in contact with the respective nozzle surfaces of the heads 51a1 and 51c1. In this state, the nozzle surfaces of the two heads 51a1 and 51c1 can be cleaned. The nozzle surfaces of the two rows of heads 51a1 to 51a5 and 51c1 to 51c5 can also be cleaned by aligning the wiper blades 82a1 to 82a5 and 82c1 to 82c5 arranged in a direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction by motor control. .
At time t11, the wiper blade 82a1 has been lowered first, but the wiper blade 82c1 remains at the top dead center, and the wiper blade 82c1 is in contact with the nozzle surface of the head 51c1. In this state, the nozzle surfaces of the heads 51c1 can be individually cleaned, and the wiper blades 82c1 to 82c5 arranged in the direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction are aligned by motor control, so that one row of the heads 51c1 to 51c1. The nozzle surface 51c5 can also be cleaned at the same time.
At time t12, both of the wiper blades 82a1 and 82c1 are lowered, and instead, the wiper blade 82b1 attached to another shaft (cam shaft 88) adjacent in the direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction is raised. The top dead center is reached and contacts the nozzle surface of the head 51b1. Here, the nozzle surfaces of the heads 51b1 can be individually cleaned, and the wiper blades 82b1 to 82b5 arranged in the direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction are matched by motor control, so that one row of heads 51b1 to 51b5 is obtained. The nozzle surface can be cleaned simultaneously.
At time t13, the wiper blade 82d1 reaches top dead center behind the previous wiper blade 82b1, and contacts the nozzle surface of the head 51d1. At this time, the wiper blade 82b1 remains at the top dead center, and the wiper blades 82b1 and 82d1 are in contact with the nozzle surfaces of the heads 51b1 and 51d1. In this state, the nozzle surfaces of the two heads 51b1 and 51d1 can be cleaned. The nozzle surfaces of the two rows of heads 51b1 to 51b5 and 51d1 to 51d5 can also be cleaned by aligning the wiper blades 82b1 to 82b5 and 82d1 to 82d5 arranged in a direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction by motor control. .
At time t14, the wiper blade 82b1 is lowered first, but the wiper blade 82d1 remains at the top dead center, and the wiper blade 82d1 is in contact with the nozzle surface of the head 51d1. In this state, the nozzle surface of the head 51d1 can be individually cleaned, and the wiper blades 82d1 to 82d5 arranged in the direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction are aligned by motor control, so that one row of the heads 51d1 to 51d1. The nozzle surface 51d5 can be cleaned simultaneously.
At time t15, all the wiper blades 82a to 82d reach the top dead center at the same time, and can contact and clean the nozzle surfaces of all the
Thus, here, the wiper member as well as the cap member can be individually or entirely operated in the same manner as the cap member, and the efficiency of the maintenance and recovery operation can be further improved. Further, it is possible to prevent the wiping from being performed to the head that does not require maintenance and recovery.
