Description
発明の分野
本発明は、ワイヤレスネットワークにおける性能監視に関する。
ワイヤレスデータネットワークの出現により、ワイヤレス装置は、多種多様なワイヤレスネットワーク、標準、およびプロトコルを使用して、通信ノード(例えばインターネットノード)への接続を確立することができる。一般的に、そのような接続には、(例えばインターネットプロトコル(IP)アドレスを使用して)通信ノードを識別すること、および適切な通信プロトコルを使用することが要求される。しかし、たとえ適切な接続アドレスおよびプロトコルを使用しても、ワイヤレス装置から通信ネットワーク内の宛先ノードへ、または通信ネットワーク内のソースノードからワイヤレス装置への接続を行なう試行は、多種多様な理由で失敗することがある。
従来の性能監視の限界に鑑みて、いずれの特定のネットワークにも依存せず、ワイヤレス装置自体に頼ることのできるサービス品質管理システムが必要である。したがって、本発明の態様および実施形態は、装置がネットワークから切断され、あるいは複数のネットワークをローミングするときでも、ワイヤレス装置が経験するサービス品質の監視に基づくワイヤレスネットワークのサービス品質管理のためのシステムおよび方法に向けられる。この装置をベースとする監視は、ネットワーク側でテストまたはサポートを始動する必要が無いので、マルチドメインのサービス品質管理を可能にする。
これらの図面は、縮尺通りに描くように意図されたものではない。図面において、様々な図に示されている同一または略同一の各構成要素は、同様の参照番号で表わされている。分かり易くするために、全ての図面の全ての構成要素がラベル表示されているわけではない。
本発明の実施形態およびその態様は、特定のネットワークから独立して、装置をベースとする測定を使用して性能データを評価し収集する、ワイヤレスネットワークのサービス品質管理のためのシステムおよび方法に向けられる。そのようなシステムは、ネットワークからの入力またはサポートを必要とすることなく、ワイヤレス装置のみによって決定することのできる性能パラメータを測定することにより、ワイヤレス装置のみに依存することができる。こうして、同一ネットワークに接続されたワイヤレス装置とサーバとの間の対話を必要とし、したがって単一のドメインでしか機能しない従来のシステムとは異なり、本発明の態様に係る装置に基づく監視は、下述するようにマルチドメインサービス品質管理を可能にする。加えて、サービス品質の監視をワイヤレス装置で行なうことができるので、それ以外では、ワイヤレス装置は、ドメインで見ることのできない装置始動の接続試行の失敗に関連する事象データを、取得することができる。特に、本発明の一部の実施形態は、下述するように、接続試行の失敗を検出して記録する一方で、そのような失敗が発生したときのワイヤレス装置および/またはネットワークの状態をも取得するための機構を提供することができる。

。合成トランザクションは、性能を評価することを唯一の目的として確立すべき接続に関する詳細を含むことができる。しかし、別の実施形態では、性能テストコマンドは、ワイヤレス装置の通常の動作の経過中にワイヤレス装置によって収集されるサービス品質関連情報を指定することができる。
上のアプリケーションの場合、接続の試行の失敗は、接続の試行がワイヤレス装置によって拒絶されたときに記録することができる。再び、接続試行の失敗と共に、装置および/またはネットワークの状態も記録することができる。
Claims (18)
- ネットワークによってワイヤレス装置に提供されるサービスの品質を決定する方法であって、
前記ワイヤレス装置上で、前記ネットワークを介して前記ワイヤレス装置に送られる性能テストコマンドを受信する動作を含み、前記性能テストコマンドは、前記ワイヤレス装置によって行なわれるべき性能テストを識別し、
前記性能テストが行なわれるべき少なくとも1つの条件と、前記性能テストの間監視すべき少なくとも1つの性能パラメータとを決定するために、前記ワイヤレス装置上で、前記性能テストコマンドを解析する動作と、
前記少なくとも1つの条件の発生に応答して実行するべき少なくとも1つのトラップを前記ワイヤレス装置上に設定する動作と、
少なくとも1つのソフトウェアの割り込みの実行に応答して、前記ワイヤレス装置上で、少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータを検出して、前記ワイヤレス装置に、前記少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータに関する情報を記録する動作とを備え、
前記少なくとも1つの条件は、接続の試行の失敗であり、記録は、前記ワイヤレス装置が前記ネットワークのネットワークノードに現在接続されていない期間中に前記ワイヤレス装置と前記ネットワークノードとの間の接続を確立しようとする試行ごとに行なわれる、方法。 - 少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータを検出する動作は、第1ネットワークの第1ネットワーク性能パラメータを検出すること、および第2ネットワークの第2ネットワーク性能パラメータを検出することを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 記録する前記動作は、前記接続を確立しようとする前記試行が失敗したときに、前記ワイヤレス装置および前記ネットワークのうちの少なくとも1つの状態を記録することをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記情報を管理サーバに提供することをさらに備える、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記管理サーバから前記ワイヤレス装置に性能テストコマンドを送信することをさらに備える、請求項4に記載の方法。
- 前記性能テストコマンドを解析する前に、前記ワイヤレス装置で前記性能テストコマンドを認証することをさらに備える、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 前記解析する動作は、前記ワイヤレス装置で前記性能テストコマンドを解析して、前記ワイヤレス装置によって実行されるテストの型を決定することをさらに含む、請求項5に記載の方法。
- 少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータを検出する動作は、前記ワイヤレス装置が前記ネットワークに接続されない期間中に前記少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータを検出することを含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータは、サービスカバレージの型を含む、請求項8に記載の方法。
- 記録する前記動作は、前記ワイヤレス装置の位置を示す位置スタンプおよび前記少なくとも1つのネットワーク性能パラメータの検出の時刻を示すローカルタイムスタンプのうちの少なくとも1つにより前記情報にインデックスを付ける動作を含む、請求項8に記載の方法。
- ネットワークサービス品質管理のためのシステムであって、
ネットワーク内のターゲットサーバとの接続を確立することのできるワイヤレス装置と、
前記ワイヤレス装置上のソフトウェアとインタフェースし、かつ前記ネットワークに関する性能データを前記ワイヤレス装置上で検出し前記ワイヤレス装置に記録するように構成かつ配置された装置エージェントとを備え、
前記装置エージェントは、
前記ワイヤレス装置によって行なわれるべき性能テストを識別する性能テストコマンドを受信し、
前記性能テストが行なわれるべき少なくとも1つの条件を決定するために前記性能テストコマンドを解析し、前記少なくとも1つの条件は、接続の試行の失敗であり、
前記ワイヤレス装置と前記ターゲットサーバとの間で接続の試行が失敗するごとに前記ネットワークに関係する性能データを検出して記録する少なくとも1つの条件の発生に応答して実行されるべき少なくとも1つのソフトウェアの割り込みを設定するように、構成されている、システム。 - 前記装置エージェントと通信することのできる管理サーバをさらに備える、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記管理サーバは、前記性能テストコマンドを前記装置エージェントに提供するように構成かつ配置されている、請求項12に記載のシステム。
- 前記性能テストコマンドは、前記装置エージェントが前記性能データを前記管理サーバに報告する記録フォーマットを識別する命令を含む、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記性能テストコマンドは、前記性能データを検出するために前記装置エージェントによって前記ワイヤレス装置にインストールすべきトラップを指定する、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記装置エージェントは、前記性能テストコマンドにおいて特定されるポリシーに従って、前記性能データを前記管理サーバに提供するように構成されている、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記装置エージェントは、前記テストを行なう前に前記性能テストコマンドを認証するように構成されかつ配置されている、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記記録する動作は、第1のネットワークのネットワーク識別子とともに第1のネットワーク性能パラメータを記録することと、第2のネットワークのネットワーク識別子とともに第2のネットワーク性能パラメータを記録することとを含む、請求項2に記載の方法。
