Description
When analyzing an atomized solution sample by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, the present invention eliminates solvent vapors by removing the sample's solvent vapor prior to introduction into the plasma. The present invention relates to an apparatus for realizing high sensitivity of components to be analyzed.
In order to analyze a solution sample by inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, a solution sample is analyzed using a pneumatic nebulizer such as a coaxial nebulizer, a cross flow nebulizer, a bubbington nebulizer, or an ultrasonic nebulizer. In the spray chamber, fine mist droplets are formed. The fine droplets are introduced into the plasma for analysis. However, if the stability or analysis sensitivity of the plasma is reduced by a large amount of solvent, it is necessary to remove the solvent. Conventional desolvation devices are commercially available that cool the spray chamber to lower the vapor pressure of the solvent (for example, IsoMist manufactured by Glass Expansion).
The ultrasonic nebulizer generates a large amount of fine droplets as compared with the pneumatic nebulizer, so that the solvent is introduced in a large amount into the plasma and the plasma is likely to be unstable, and thus the necessity for removing the solvent is high. For this reason, the fine droplets are passed through a heating vessel (about 140 ° C when the solvent is water) to evaporate the solvent from the droplets and then passed through a cooling vessel (about 0 ° C when the solvent is water). A product that removes solvent vapor by condensing and removing the solvent vapor is commercially available (see Patent Document 1).
In general, 95% or more of the solution sample atomized by the pneumatic nebulizer collides with the spray chamber wall to form a liquid film, is discharged from the drain, and is transported to the plasma by 5% or less of the solution sample. ing. For this reason, the cooling of the spray chamber requires a larger amount of sample to be handled than the method of directly desolvating the droplets carried to the plasma, so that the apparatus becomes larger and the energy required for desolvation also increases. On the other hand, even in the method of directly desolvating the droplets carried to the plasma, the conventional desolvation apparatus was installed at a location away from the inductively coupled plasma torch to remove the solvent. Adhering to the inner wall of the tube until it is transported to the plasma, there is a problem of reduced sensitivity and increased memory effect (the component contained in the previous sample appears and interferes with the analysis of the next sample) It was. Further, since the dead volume of the apparatus is large, the sample is diluted, and there is a problem that the rise of the analysis signal and the return to the background level are delayed. In addition, when inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is performed without using a desolvation device, the stability of the plasma is reduced, and in addition, interference of the oxide signal in inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is achieved. There is a problem that becomes larger. The present invention is intended to provide a desolvation inductively coupled plasma torch that is small in size, has a fast response to an analysis signal, and does not cause a reduction in sensitivity due to adhesion to a tube and a memory effect.
In order to achieve the above object, in the present invention, by constructing a member and a structure having a desolvation function inside the inductively coupled plasma torch, a small amount of sample droplets carried to the plasma are introduced into the plasma. The solvent was removed immediately before

The inductively coupled plasma torch with a desolvation function of the present invention enables efficient desolvation of an analysis sample solution, and the following effects are obtained.
(1) In the conventional solvent removal apparatus, since the atomized sample in a state where a droplet having a relatively large particle size is present is removed from the inductively coupled plasma torch, the solvent removal operation is accompanied. However, droplets having a relatively large particle size are likely to adhere to the inner wall of the desolvation device and the inner wall of the tube connected thereto, and thus problems such as a decrease in analytical sensitivity and an increase in the memory effect have been observed. Since solvent removal is performed only on droplets whose particle size has been reduced by evaporation of a certain amount of solvent while being conveyed to the inductively coupled plasma torch, there is almost no decrease in analytical sensitivity or memory effect.
(2) A droplet having a small particle size carried to the inductively coupled plasma torch has a large specific surface area and thus has a high evaporation rate per volume, and has already evaporated while being carried to the inductively coupled plasma torch. Since the ratio of the solvent is large, the solvent can be efficiently removed. Therefore, the size of the permeable membrane for removing the solvent can be reduced.
(3) Droplets that have been desolvated to reduce their particle size, or those that have been completely desolvated to become solid particulates are efficiently decomposed, atomized, and ionized in the plasma, improving analysis sensitivity. Bring. Further, since the solvent is removed, for example, in an aqueous solution sample, the amount of water molecules introduced into the plasma is reduced, and as a result, the ratio of oxide ions of the analysis target element is reduced. Oxide ions are important interference components in inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, such as interference of ArO with Fe and light rare earth elements with heavy rare earth elements. This means that analysis with less interference is possible.
The inductively coupled plasma torch with a desolvation function of the present invention is formed by forming a solvent vapor permeation portion responsible for a desolvation function in the injector tube of the inductively coupled plasma torch and a flow path for discharging the solvent vapor out of the torch. It is characterized in that a small amount of the sample droplet carried to the substrate is desolvated immediately before being introduced into the plasma.
Hereinafter, each component of the inductively coupled plasma torch with a desolvation function of the present invention will be described.
In the inductively coupled plasma torch with a desolvation function of the present invention, a sample droplet and solvent vapor evaporated from the sample droplet are injected into the injector tube by forming a part or all of the injector tube in contact with the carrier gas from a solvent vapor permeable material. The solvent vapor is removed from the carrier gas by utilizing the property that the solvent vapor selectively permeates through the permeable material while passing through the tube. The inductively coupled plasma torch with a desolvation function of the present invention is roughly classified into two types depending on the presence or absence of a flow path for discharging the solvent vapor that has permeated through the permeable material to the outside of the torch. Further, those having a flow path for discharging the solvent vapor out of the torch are classified into a type in which the solvent vapor is discharged under reduced pressure and a type in which the solvent vapor is discharged by the purge gas.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIGS. 1A and 1B are of a type that does not have a flow path for discharging solvent vapor out of the torch. Of these, FIG. 1A shows the
In the types shown in FIGS. 1A and 1B, the solvent vapor in the carrier gas passes through the tubular
FIG. 2 shows a type in which there is a flow path for discharging the solvent vapor out of the torch, and the pressure is reduced and exhausted. In this type, if the exhaust connection pipe 7 is connected to a vacuum pump, the solvent vapor that has permeated through the tubular
