Description
The present invention relates to a liquid storage container, and more particularly to a physical distribution form of an ink tank that is attached to and used in an ink jet recording apparatus.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, there are roughly two configurations as an ink jet recording head that performs recording by discharging ink and an ink tank that holds and supplies ink for recording to the recording head. One is a head-integrated ink jet cartridge in which a recording head unit and an ink tank are integrated, and the other is an exchangeable ink-jet cartridge in which the recording head and the ink tank are detachable from each other. In such a replaceable ink jet cartridge, when the ink in the ink tank runs out, only the ink tank can be replaced and used, which is generally advantageous from the viewpoint of running cost.
In this type of replaceable ink jet cartridge, several configurations have been proposed to prevent ink leakage from the ink supply port when the ink tank is handled alone (for example, in the distribution process).
However, in the configuration of the conventional ink tank, ink flows into the ink supply port due to temperature change or pressure change during transportation or distribution of the ink tank, and if the seal member or cap is removed during use of the ink tank, the ink will scatter. There was a problem to say. Hereinafter, the mechanism of ink flow into the supply port space due to changes in the external environment such as temperature and atmospheric pressure will be specifically described with reference to FIG. FIG. 7A is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the vicinity of the supply port, in which the opening of the ink supply port is sealed with a seal member.
The opening of the
FIG. 7B is a diagram for explaining the case where the
FIG. 7C shows a state where the ink holding state by the meniscus forming member destroyed in FIG. 7B is in an equilibrium state. As shown in FIG. 7B, the ink holding state of the meniscus forming member is broken once due to the expansion of the air in the
FIG. 7 (d) shows a state in which the ambient temperature has decreased from the state of FIG. 7 (c) due to environmental changes and has returned to the same temperature as in FIG. 7 (a) again. Due to the temperature drop, the air in the
When the environmental temperature rises again from the state of FIG. 7D, the states of FIGS. 7B to 7D are similarly repeated, and the amount of leaked
Further, bubbles are accumulated in the
In Patent Documents 2 and 3, ink is held by an ink holding member made of sponge or the like, and there is no space for directly holding ink unlike the intermediate chamber in
In addition, when an ink holding member composed only of a capillary member is provided in the ink storage chamber of the tank and this holding member is held by a rib on the inner wall of the tank, there is a gap between the capillary member and the inner wall rib of the container. Arise. Since the ink supply port communicates with the gap, it is not sealed, and there is no problem that the leaked ink is accumulated in the supply port space. However, in the tank having such a configuration, since the ink is held by the ink holding member provided in the ink containing chamber, the amount of ink that can be held with respect to the volume of the tank is small, and the ink tank is large. It was. In other words, in the configuration of
An object of the present invention is to solve the above-described problems, and to provide an ink tank capable of reducing the amount of ink leaking into the ink supply port and suppressing ink scattering when the ink tank is opened.
In order to achieve the above object, in the present invention,
Consists at least partially of a flexible member, the ink accommodating directly the ink is sealed except for electrical outlet to the supply port in communication with supply to the outside, the ink containing chamber volume is decreased by the use of the ink When, in the above state of the feed opening facing downward, and the ink outlet port disposed on the bottom of the ink storage chamber, it is found provided between which is disposed below the approximate ink outlet port the supply port, a plate-shaped capillary member for holding the meniscus of the ink, has a cap member for sealing the supply opening, the volume of air sandwiched between the said cap meniscus space V, and the outlet wherein the volume of ink held in the capillary member between the supply port Vi, Vexp the volume when the volume V of the air in the external environment fluctuates with the space has a maximum expansion of the ink tank, and a result, Vi ≧ Vexp − V is satisfied .
According to the present invention, it is possible to suppress ink dripping into the supply port space caused by temperature change or atmospheric pressure change that may occur during transportation of the ink tank, and to reduce ink scattering when the user opens the cap member. It becomes possible.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of an
(Ink tank configuration)
The
As shown in FIG. 3, the
The
The
The shape of the central portion of the
Further, the
A
As shown in FIG. 1, when the ink 2 is supplied to the recording head and consumed from the state where the ink 2 is almost completely filled in the ink storage chamber R, the pressure is resisted against the biasing force of the
(First embodiment)
With reference to FIGS. 4A to 4C, an ink movement mechanism in the vicinity of the supply port will be described with respect to an environmental change to the ink tank in this configuration. 4A to 4C correspond to the cross-sectional view taken along the line JJ in FIG. 2 and are enlarged cross-sectional views in which the vicinity of the supply port is enlarged.
Vi≧Vexp−V
In the present embodiment, the

Factors of air expansion in environmental changes include temperature rise and pressure drop. In general, the amount of expansion due to the pressure drop is greater. For example, when the cap member is mounted at 25 ° C. in the manufacturing process, if the temperature rises up to 60 ° C. in the conveyance / distribution process, the expansion volume becomes about 1.12 times. However, when the tank is used at a high altitude of 4000 m or more, the atmospheric pressure is about 0.6 atm, and the air expansion volume in that state reaches about 1.67 times, and the expansion volume is much larger than the change in temperature.
The atmospheric pressure considered as the lowest in the actual environment where the ink tank can be placed is, for example, as follows when the atmospheric pressure in the standard state is 1 atm.
Atmospheric pressure 0.9atm Use on flat ground. Do not move.
0.7 atm Transportation by aircraft.
0.6atm 4000m or higher altitude (Bolivia, Tibet, etc.)
Vi≧Vexp−V=1.67*V−V=0.67*V
Vi≧Vexp−V=1.12*V−V=0.12*V
In order to satisfy the specifications of the tank in all use states, it is sufficient to consider a situation in which ink spillage does not occur at 0.6 atm. In this case, since the expansion volume of air is 1.67 times, assuming that the volume of the
Vi ≧ Vexp−V = 1.67 * V−V = 0.67 * V
Vi and V are configured as follows. By setting the ink holding volume Vi of the capillary member, the supply port space air volume V, and the expansion air maximum volume Vexp in such a relationship, ink dripping does not occur when the atmospheric pressure changes up to 0.6 atm as the environmental fluctuation of the tank. When considering the use only on flat ground, the expansion volume at a pressure of 0.9 atm on the flat ground is 1.11 times larger, and the expansion volume is 1.12 times larger when the environmental temperature is increased to 60 ° C. Therefore, giving priority to the response to environmental temperature changes, Vi ≧ Vexp−V = 1.12 * V−V = 0.12 * V
Vi and V may be configured as follows.
Ink dripping into the supply port space can occur not only due to environmental changes but also drops and vibrations. Therefore, the smaller the volume of the supply port space, the better. Therefore, it is desirable to determine the ink holding amount Vi of the capillary member with respect to the environmental change amount assumed as described above after making the supply port space volume V as small as possible.
Next, a description will be given of a state in which the air in the supply port space contracts when the environmental temperature decreases or the atmospheric pressure increases.
The state in which the air contracts is a state that changes from FIG. 4B to FIG. 4C. The case where the air expanded in the
However, when the expanded air stays inside the
図5(b)で示すように供給口空間内のエア体積をVb(毛管部材内に保持されたエア体積も含む)とする。
Va≧Vb−Vshr ‥ (2)
Fig.5 (a) is sectional drawing explaining the state which mounts | wears with a cap member. The
Va ≧ Vb−Vshr (2)
In this way, the occurrence of ink leakage can be suppressed even when the temperature drops or the pressure rises. Therefore, the compression amount Va when the cap is mounted, which is determined by the height of the tip of the
The minimum temperature in the actual environment where the ink tank can be placed is about −30 ° C., and the air volume in that case is 0.89 times (when the temperature changes rapidly). (When the temperature gradually changes to −30 ° C., the ink freezes and the ink storage chamber R cannot change its volume, and even when it reaches −30 ° C., the air volume may not reach 0.89 times. In addition, the increase in atmospheric pressure is 1.1 atm, and the contraction volume of air in that case is 0.91 times. Therefore, since the volume change when the air contracts is small with respect to the volume change when the air expands, the countermeasure against the ink dripping from the supply port need only be considered at the time of air expansion. Of course, it is desirable to take measures in both directions of expansion and contraction of air.
(Second Embodiment)
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of an ink tank according to the second embodiment of the present invention.
In this example, the cap member is the
Also in this embodiment, when the temperature of the tank rises or the air pressure drops due to environmental fluctuations, when the air in the supply port expands, there is an ink dripping suppression effect as in the first embodiment. However, when the temperature of the tank drops or the pressure rises due to environmental fluctuations, the
