Claims (1)
- 発光色が異なる複数の光源と、該複数の光源からの光に基づいて色順次によりカラー表示を行う表示素子と、を備え、
前記表示素子は、光の反射方向を制御して時間的に階調を表現する複数のマイクロミラーを備え、前記光源の発光強度と、前記光源の発光タイミングと、前記表示素子の各色の表示期間とを制御する制御部を有する画像表示装置であって、
前記制御部は、前記光源の発光強度および/または発光タイミングと、前記表示素子の各色の表示期間とが異なる第1表示方法と第2表示方法とを切り替え可能であり、
前記第2表示方法は、前記第1表示方法よりも単色画像の色の種類が多く、かつ、前記第1表示方法における単色画像の色を含み、前記第2表示方法での単色画像の少なくとも1つの期間で、前記光源が2種類以上の発光色の光を発し、
前記第1表示方法において、各色の発光強度を最大として、白色点が所望の値となるように各色の表示期間を設定しており、
前記第2表示方法において、表示期間がマイクロミラーで階調表現をするための時間的制限と同じ長さとなる色であって、光源が発する発光色が1種類である単色画像の色の強度を、白色点が前記所望の値となるように前記の最大の発光強度より小さくすることを特徴とする画像表示装置。
