【0001】

TAN={56.1×cKOH(V1−V0)}/m

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a method for preventing deterioration of a lubricating oil used in various machines and a method for using the same, and more particularly to a method for preventing deterioration of a lubricating oil and a method for using the lubricating oil for extending the life of the lubricating oil.
[Prior art]
[0002]
Lubricating oil is used to reduce wear and heat generation by interposing in sliding parts of machines such as bearings to reduce friction. Lubricating oil gradually deteriorates with use and eventually cannot withstand use. Therefore, replacement of lubricating oil is an important task in machine maintenance.
[0003]
In order to reduce the running cost of the machine, it is desirable that the number of replacements of the lubricating oil be as small as possible. For this reason, various improvements and improvements have been conventionally made to extend the life of the lubricating oil. One typical method is to add additives, particularly antioxidants, to the lubricating oil.
However, a method for extending the life by suppressing the deterioration of the lubricating oil while actually using the lubricating oil in machinery has not been known.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
An object of the present invention is to provide a method for preventing and using a lubricant that can prolong the life of the lubricant.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
It is well known that the deterioration of lubricating oil proceeds by an auto-oxidation reaction caused by oxygen in the air. That is, as shown in FIG. 1, the hydrocarbon serving as the base oil of the lubricating oil becomes a carbon radical, undergoes an oxidation reaction, becomes a peroxide, and changes to an oxide. The oxide further changes to a polymer. Since the generation of peroxide is a radical chain reaction, once a carbon radical is generated, hydrocarbons are oxidized one after another.
[0006]
In order to suppress this reaction, an antioxidant has been added to the lubricating oil from the beginning. As shown in FIG. 1, the antioxidant includes radical scavenging type antioxidants (A) and (B) and a peroxide decomposition type antioxidant (C). A plurality of antioxidants are blended to improve performance.
[0007]
Antioxidants have a function of suppressing an auto-oxidation reaction that causes a reduction in the function of the lubricating oil, and inactivate radicals and peroxides, and at the same time they decompose and are consumed. Therefore, in any of the radical scavenging type and the peroxide decomposing type, no peroxide is generated while the antioxidant is functioning. And it can be judged that the function of the antioxidant is lost at the stage where peroxide is generated in the system.
[0008]
The present inventor pays attention to this principle, monitors the peroxide in the lubricating oil with a peroxide value (hereinafter referred to as POV) indicating the concentration of the peroxide, so that the POV does not exceed 0 ppm, or If we add a new antioxidant to the lubricating oil so that the POV does not exceed 1 ppm when it exceeds 0 ppm, the deterioration of the lubricating oil will be suppressed, and it will be possible to extend the service life. As a result, the present invention has been completed.
[0009]
That is, the first method for preventing deterioration of a lubricating oil according to the present invention is characterized in that an antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil so that the POV of the lubricating oil used in an oxidizing atmosphere does not exceed 0 ppm. To do.
The second method for preventing deterioration of a lubricating oil according to the present invention is characterized in that an antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil when the POV of the lubricating oil used in an oxidizing atmosphere exceeds 0 ppm.
A third method for preventing deterioration of a lubricating oil according to the present invention is characterized in that an antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil so that the POV of the lubricating oil used in an oxidizing atmosphere does not exceed 1 ppm.
[0010]
Which one of the first to third degradation prevention methods is adopted is appropriately determined according to the lubrication performance and the usage environment required for the lubricating oil. Here, “used in an oxidizing atmosphere” means that, for example, the lubricating oil is used under conditions that undergo auto-oxidation. In any of the above-described methods, the POV of the lubricating oil is measured over time so that the POV of the lubricating oil does not exceed 0 ppm, or exceeds 0 ppm, or the POV does not exceed 1 ppm. It is desirable to add an antioxidant to the lubricating oil.
The addition of the antioxidant is preferably carried out by adding a lubricating oil containing an antioxidant.
[0011]
Further, the present invention is characterized in that the lubricating oil is used in an oxidizing atmosphere while an antioxidant is continuously, regularly or irregularly added to the lubricating oil so as to suppress an increase in POV. A method of using the lubricating oil is also provided.
This method of use is to add an antioxidant to the lubricating oil without particularly measuring POV. Even by such a method of use, it is possible to prevent the lubricant from deteriorating due to consumption of the antioxidant.
[0012]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, the method of the present invention will be described in detail. The lubricating oil to which the method of the present invention is applied is a lubricating oil that may deteriorate due to auto-oxidation, and the type is not particularly limited. Specifically, petroleum base oils (naphthenic, paraffinic, etc.), synthetic hydrocarbon base oils (polybutene, poly (α-olefin), alkylbenzene, etc.), fatty acid esters used as base oils for lubricating oils Base oil (diester, polyol ester, etc.), polyglycol base oil (polyalkylene glycol, etc.), phenyl ether base oil (alkyl diphenyl ether, polyphenyl ether, etc.), phosphate ester base oil (aromatic phosphate ester) , Aliphatic phosphate esters, etc.), silicon compound base oils (poly (dimethylsiloxane), poly (phenylmethylsiloxane), silicate esters, etc.), halide base oils {poly (chlorotrifluoroethylene), trifluoro Propylmethylsiloxane, perfluoropolyether}, vegetable oil (fatty acid trig Ceilidh) and the like are exemplified, and these may be used alone or in combination.
[0013]
From the viewpoint of use, the method of the present invention can be applied to, for example, engine oil (for vehicles and ships), gear oil (for vehicles and industry), turbine oil, bearing oil, hydraulic fluid, cutting oil, sliding oil, compressor oil. It can be applied to plastic processing oil, heat treatment oil, and the like.
As the antioxidant added to these lubricating oils, any of the antioxidants conventionally used in lubricating oils can be used, regardless of the radical scavenging type or the peroxide decomposing type. However, it is particularly preferable to use a peroxide decomposition type antioxidant. Specifically, for example, 2,6-di-tert-butylparacresol, 4,4′-methylenebis (2,6-di-tertiary-butylphenol), 4,4′-thiobis- (6-tertiary-butyl- 3-methylphenol), N-phenyl-α-naphthylamine, phenothiazine, zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, diamyl-dithiocarbamate, benzotriazole, 2,5-bis (n-dodecyldithio) -1,3,4-thiadiazole, etc. Examples include zinc thiophosphates, amines, and phenols.
[0014]
In the first embodiment of the present invention, an antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil used in an oxidizing atmosphere so that the POV of the lubricating oil does not exceed 0 ppm. Specifically, it is preferable that the POV of the lubricating oil is measured over time and monitored so that the POV of the lubricating oil does not exceed 0 ppm.
[0015]
POV is measured according to the ASTM D 1832 method. In this measurement method, peroxide is reacted with potassium iodide to release iodine, this iodine is reduced with sodium thiosulfate, and the content of the peroxide is obtained from the amount of consumed reducing agent. The end point of the reaction can be determined by decolorization of the released iodine by the reducing agent. On the other hand, the end point of the reaction can be known from the electric conductivity, and it can be accurately detected to a ppm level with a small amount of sample with good reproducibility. Therefore, POV can be measured easily and quickly with an automatic titration apparatus using electrical conductivity.
Using such an automatic titration apparatus or the like, the POV of the lubricating oil used in an oxidizing atmosphere is measured over time. Measuring over time refers to measuring POV by sampling continuously or at predetermined intervals. The sampling interval may be determined in consideration of the deterioration rate in the environment where the lubricant is used. Note that the POV may be measured only for a certain period of time, not the time.
[0016]
In addition, the lubricating oil used in an oxidizing atmosphere means that the lubricating oil is used in an environment where an auto-oxidation reaction occurs, that is, the machine is in an operating state. The operating conditions of the machine are not constant, and therefore the environment to which the lubricating oil is exposed is not constant, but it encompasses all usage conditions.
[0017]
In this embodiment, the POV of the lubricating oil in use is monitored as described above. And antioxidant is added before POV exceeds 0 ppm so that POV may not exceed 0 ppm.
[0018]
As the antioxidant to be added, the same or different antioxidant as that contained in the lubricating oil from the beginning can be used. Further, the antioxidant may be added to the lubricating oil as it is, or in order to facilitate the addition of the antioxidant, the antioxidant is previously dissolved in another lubricating oil, and this antioxidant is contained. A lubricating oil may be additionally added to the lubricating oil in use.
[0019]
The amount of addition and the number of additions of the antioxidant are not particularly limited, and are an amount and the number sufficient to prevent POV from exceeding 0 ppm. However, if the amount of the antioxidant added is too large, the properties of the lubricating oil may be adversely affected, so that the concentration of the antioxidant contained in the lubricating oil in use does not exceed 1 mmol / kg. It is preferable to add.
[0020]
Thus, in this embodiment, since the antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil so that the POV does not exceed 0 ppm, the lubricating oil is always maintained in a state where the antioxidant is present and deteriorated. Is suppressed.
[0021]
In the second embodiment of the present invention, when the POV of the lubricating oil exceeds 0 ppm, an antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil. By adding the antioxidant addition time when the POV exceeds 0 ppm as in this embodiment, it becomes possible to easily determine the addition time of the antioxidant, from the POV measurement to the addition of the antioxidant. This process can be automated. Others are the same as in the first embodiment.
[0022]
In the third embodiment of the present invention, an antioxidant is added to the lubricating oil so that the POV of the lubricating oil does not exceed 1 ppm. In other words, the third embodiment is applied to a lubricating oil used under a condition in which a certain degree of deterioration (peroxide generation) is allowed, and also sets an upper limit value in the second embodiment. . When the POV of the lubricating oil exceeds the above range, the generation of peroxides proceeds considerably and there is a risk that the lubricating performance will be reduced. Others are the same as in the first embodiment.
[0023]
On the other hand, in the case where the lubricating oil is used under a certain condition in which the change with time of POV is known in advance, or when high lubrication performance is not required, the antioxidant is not measured over time. May be added to the lubricating oil. The addition may be continuous, regular and irregular. Periodic means adding at predetermined time intervals. Others are the same as in the first embodiment.
[0024]
In general, the total acid number (TAN) and the viscosity are used as indices for knowing the deterioration state of the lubricating oil. FIG. 2 shows changes with time of POV, TAN and viscosity obtained in the model oxidation reaction test. As shown in the figure, since the antioxidant functions sufficiently at the beginning of the reaction, there is no change in POV, TAN, and viscosity, and apparent deterioration does not progress. Eventually, when the antioxidant is consumed and peroxide is generated, POV rises first, TAN rises later, and viscosity rises later. POV decreases after reaching a maximum value almost simultaneously with the start of the increase in TAN. This is an apparent phenomenon because the peroxide directly reacts with the oxide, and is different from the termination of the oxidation reaction.
Therefore, the change in the POV of the lubricating oil used in the actual machine is tracked, and the antioxidant is consumed when the POV reaches the maximum value (that is, the inflection point) of the POV curve as shown in FIG. Therefore, it is appropriate to replace the lubricating oil when it is judged that it is time to replace the lubricating oil. On the other hand, in TAN and viscosity, since there is almost no change from the new oil near the maximum value of the POV curve, the replacement time is further delayed.
[0025]
【Example】
EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although an Example and a comparative example are given and the method of this invention is demonstrated in detail, this invention is not limited only to a following example.
[0026]
Example: Bis (diisopropyldithiophosphate) zinc was synthesized as an antioxidant, and a solution (1 mmol / kg, 200 mL) dissolved in squalane was weighed into a 500 mL separable flask. To this separable flask, a four-necked separa cover fitted with a Liebig condenser, an air inlet tube, a thermocouple and a flat stopper was attached, and the solution was poured with a mantle heater while introducing dry air into the flask at a flow rate of 20 mL / min. Heated to 120 ° C. The oxidation test was continued for 100 hours while adding a squalane solution (4 mmol / kg, 10 mL) of bis (diisopropyldithiophosphate) zinc every 10 hours from the start of heating (0 hour). The total amount of antioxidant added was 0.38 mol.
The wear amount (four-ball wear test, WSD), total acid number (TAN) and POV at 0 and 100 hours from the start of the test were measured. The measurement results are shown in Table 1.
The measuring method is as follows.
(1) Four-ball wear test (WSD)
Measured according to ASTM D 4172 method. That is, three steel balls having a diameter of 12.7 mm are fixed, and the surface is covered with the test lubricant. Next, a fourth steel ball having a diameter of 12.7 mm (referred to as a top ball) is pushed into the gap formed by the three fixed balls for three-point contact with a force of 392 N (40 kgf). After adjusting the temperature of the test lubricant to 75 ° C., the top ball is rotated at 1200 rpm for 60 minutes. Thereafter, the average of the worn diameter values is determined for the three bottom balls.
(2) Total acid number (TAN)
It measured according to JISK2501 method. That is, TAN is defined as the number of milligrams of potassium hydroxide required to neutralize all acidic components contained in 1 g of a sample. The measurement was performed by an indicator titration method. First, a weighed sample was dissolved in 100 mL of a mixed solvent of toluene, 2-propanol and a small amount of water, 0.5 mL of p-naphtholbenzein was added as an indicator, and 0.1 mol / L potassium hydroxide standard 2-propanol at room temperature. Titrate with liquid and calculate TAN according to:
TAN = {56.1 × cKOH (V 1 −V 0 )} / m
Here, V 1 : 0.1 mol / L potassium hydroxide liquid amount (mL) required for titration of the sample
V 0 : 0.1 mol / L potassium hydroxide liquid amount (mL) required for titration in the blank test
cKOH: 0.1 mol / L molar concentration of potassium hydroxide solution (mol / L)
m: Amount of sample weighed (g)
In place of the indicator titration method, a potentiometric titration method may be adopted.
(3) POV
Measured according to ASTM D 1832 method. That is, 1 g of the test lubricating oil was placed in an iodine flask, 25 mL of carbon tetrachloride was added to the flask, and rapidly dissolved under a carbon dioxide stream while heating, and then acidified by adding 20 mL of an acetic acid solution. To this, 2 mL of KI solution was added and reacted. 100 mL of water was added, and after stirring, titrated with 0.005N sodium thiosulfate solution. Titration was performed until the liquid was decolored, and POV was determined by the following equation.
POV = {(A−B) N × 1000} / S
Here, A: Amount of sodium thiosulfate solution required for titration (mL)
B: Amount of sodium thiosulfate solution required for titration of blank (mL)
N: Normality of sodium thiosulfate solution S: Sample amount (g)
[0027]
Comparative Example In the same manner as in the Example, while introducing dry air at a flow rate of 0.2 mL / min into a vessel containing squalane solution (1 mmol / kg, 200 mL) of bis (diisopropyldithiophosphate) zinc, Heated to ° C. 50 hours after the start of heating (0 hour), a squalane solution of zinc bis (diisopropyldithiophosphate) (4 mmol / kg, 50 mL) was further added, and the oxidation test was continued at the same temperature for 50 hours. The total amount of antioxidant added was 0.40 mol.
The wear amount (four-ball wear test, WSD), total acid value (TAN) and POV at 0, 50 and 100 hours from the start of the test were measured in the same manner as in the Examples. The results are also shown in Table 1.
[Table 1]
[0028]
As can be seen from Table 1, in the examples, during the 100-hour oxidation reaction, an additional antioxidant was added every 10 hours, so POV was kept almost at 0 ppm, and therefore TAN was also 0 mgKOH. This indicates that the antioxidant remains in the squalane in the container.
In contrast, in the comparative example, during the 100-hour oxidation reaction, only the antioxidant was added at the 50th hour, so POV and TAN increased with the passage of the 50th and 100th hours. is doing. This indicates that the antioxidant contained in the squalane during the 50 hours is consumed and the oxidative deterioration of the squalane is progressing.
[0029]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, by adding a new antioxidant to the lubricating oil so that the POV of the lubricating oil does not exceed 0 ppm, or exceeds 0 ppm, or so that the POV does not exceed 1 ppm, There is an effect that deterioration of the lubricating oil is suppressed and the life of the lubricating oil can be extended.
[0030]
According to the method of using the lubricating oil according to the present invention, since the lubricating oil is used in an oxidizing atmosphere while the antioxidant is continuously, regularly or irregularly added to the lubricating oil, the consumption of the antioxidant is reduced. The increase in POV due to the is suppressed, and the life of the lubricating oil can be extended.
