Description
The present invention relates to a liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell.
A fuel cell continuously supplies fuel and oxygen from the outside and reacts electrochemically to take out electrical energy, which is more efficient than other power generation methods and emits less carbon dioxide. In recent years, environmental problems have become prominent.
For example, a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) can operate at a low temperature, has a short start-up time, and can be downsized. This polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes a MEA (Membrane Electrode Assembly) having a structure in which a polymer solid electrolyte membrane is sandwiched between an air side electrode and a fuel side electrode, and supplies air (oxygen) to the air side electrode. By supplying a fuel such as an aqueous methanol solution or reformed hydrogen to the side electrode, an electrochemical reaction occurs and electric power is generated (for example, Patent Document 1).
By the way, the liquid fuel used in the fuel cell is a fuel cell that supplies hydrogen obtained by reforming the liquid fuel to the fuel side electrode, and also supplies an aqueous methanol solution as the liquid fuel to the fuel side electrode. Even in the case of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), it is sent from the fuel storage chamber by a pump or the like (for example, Patent Document 2).
When such a pump is started when the fuel cell is not operating, the driving is started by the electric energy charged in the secondary battery or the like. When the fuel cell is started along with the driving, the electric energy from the fuel cell is used. It will be driven. Further, by detecting the pressure in the fuel cell system, on / off of the pump is controlled based on the detection result, and an appropriate amount of liquid fuel corresponding to the pressure in the system is supplied. .
However, since the pump used conventionally is started to be driven by the charged electric energy, there is a problem that it cannot be driven depending on the amount of electric energy charged. In particular, when a fuel cell is mounted on a small electronic device, portable device, etc., since the device is small, there is a limit to the amount of electric energy that can be charged, and the pump cannot be driven as expected. The battery may not start up reliably. Therefore, it is desired to reliably start the fuel cell without relying on such electric energy.
Furthermore, conventional fuel storage chambers are large-scale and are often fixedly installed in the equipment, but in order to promote downsizing of the equipment, a removable cartridge type may be used. desired.
An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell that can reliably start the fuel cell and can promote downsizing of a device on which the fuel cell is mounted.
A liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell according to the present invention includes a fuel storage chamber in which liquid fuel is stored, a fuel supply chamber partitioned from the fuel storage chamber via a fuel communication hole, and the fuel supply chamber. converting mechanism and a partitioned pressure action chamber by a thin film valve, a fuel passage for delivering the liquid fuel to the reformer-side external liquids fuel from said fuel supply chamber, before Kiaratame reformer A pressure introducing portion for introducing pressure by the hydrogen into the pressure working chamber from a hydrogen consumption point side obtained after liquid fuel reforming, and a coil spring for biasing the thin film valve, and the pressure working chamber is provided with When the introduced pressure is P, the pressure converted from the spring force of the coil spring is Pv, and the pressure in the fuel storage chamber is Pc, the coil spring biases the thin film valve toward the fuel supply chamber. To the pressure acting chamber The thin film valve is provided so that the fuel flow path can be opened and closed by a pressure difference between the sum of P and Pv and the Pc, and the coil spring connects the thin film valve to the pressure working chamber. If disposed in the fuel supply chamber to bias the side, the thin film valve, the and P, openably the Pc and the fuel flow path I by the pressure difference between the sum of the Pv It is provided.
According to the present invention, the liquid fuel stored in the fuel storage chamber of the liquid fuel cartridge is delivered via the fuel flow path opened by the pressure difference between the fuel supply chamber and the pressure action chamber. Sent to the reformer . For this reason, in order to send out liquid fuel at the time of starting of a fuel cell, the conventional pump etc. are unnecessary, and a fuel cell starts reliably.
Further, by storing the liquid fuel in the liquid fuel cartridge, it is only necessary to replace the cartridge and replenish the liquid fuel as necessary, so that a large fuel storage chamber or the like is not necessary, and downsizing of the device is promoted. .
In the liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell according to the present invention, it is desirable that the fuel flow path and the pressure introducing portion are provided separately and separately.
According to the present invention, since the fuel flow path and the pressure introduction part are separate, liquid fuel is supplied at a higher pressure by providing an arbitrary liquid feeding means such as a pump on the fuel flow path side. As a result, reforming in the reformer and power generation in the fuel cell are performed satisfactorily.
Since the supply and stop of the liquid fuel are performed using the differential pressure as described above, such a liquid feeding means does not need to be an expensive pump that turns on and off according to the pressure. A simple one that can supply liquid at a higher pressure is sufficient.
In the liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell according to the present invention, the thin film valve opens the fuel flow path when the pressure in the pressure working chamber is lower than the pressure in the fuel supply chamber by a predetermined value or more. And
When the liquid fuel is consumed, the pressure on the fuel cell side and the reformer side is reduced, so that the fuel is surely sent by opening the fuel flow path due to this pressure drop.
In the liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell according to the present invention, an air communication hole is provided in a part of the portion forming the fuel storage chamber, and a flexible sealing film is provided at a position corresponding to the air communication hole. It is conceivable that the sealing film is normally separated from the atmosphere communication hole to open the fuel storage chamber to the atmosphere, and seals the atmosphere communication hole when the liquid fuel comes into contact therewith.
According to the present invention as described above, even if the liquid fuel cartridge is turned upside down, the atmosphere communication hole is sealed by the sealing film, so that there is no risk of liquid fuel leaking from the fuel storage chamber, and the posture is A liquid fuel cartridge is suitably used in a fuel cell system such as a portable device that is not constant.
At this time, the fuel communication hole is provided with air intrusion preventing means for preventing air from entering the fuel supply chamber. The air intrusion preventing means includes a float having a specific gravity smaller than that of the liquid fuel, and the float. And a second coil spring for urging the thin film valve to the thin film valve side, the thin film valve side of the fuel communication hole being a tapered surface, and liquid fuel is the fuel communication hole In a state where the fuel does not flow, the float contacts the tapered surface to block the fuel communication hole, and in a state where the liquid fuel fills the fuel communication hole, it is desirable that the float does not hinder the flow of the liquid fuel. .
According to the present invention, since the air entry preventing means is provided, the air that has entered the fuel storage chamber from the air communication hole does not enter the fuel supply chamber, and the fuel supply chamber is moved from the fuel storage chamber to the fuel supply chamber. Thus, the difference between the pressure and the pressure in the pressure action chamber can be obtained with certainty.
In the liquid fuel cartridge for the fuel cell of the present invention, the volume variable means for pressurizing the liquid fuel in the fuel storage chamber and reducing the volume of the fuel storage chamber according to the amount of liquid fuel delivered from the fuel storage chamber. It is desirable to be provided.
In such a case, the liquid fuel is more reliably delivered by the pressure applied by the volume variable means.
In the liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell according to the present invention, the fuel channel is opened to the outside by an attachment operation to the fuel cell system, and the fuel channel and the outside are blocked by the detaching operation from the fuel cell system. It is desirable to be provided.
According to the present invention, since the blocking means is provided, when the liquid fuel cartridge is removed from the fuel cell system, there is no possibility that the residual liquid fuel flows out to the outside, and the handling property is good. is there.
The fuel cell system of the present invention is a fuel cell system in which a liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell is detachably provided, a fuel supply chamber into which the liquid fuel from the liquid fuel cartridge flows, and the fuel supply chamber A pressure flow chamber partitioned by a thin film valve, and a fuel flow path for sending liquid fuel from the fuel supply chamber to the fuel cell or to a reformer for the liquid fuel, A pressure introducing portion for introducing pressure from the outside to the pressure acting chamber, and the thin film valve is provided so that the fuel flow path can be opened and closed by a pressure difference between the fuel supply chamber and the pressure acting chamber. It is characterized by that.
According to the present invention, since the liquid fuel is sent from the liquid fuel cartridge to the fuel cell or the reformer without using a pump or the like by the configuration substantially the same as described above, the entire system can be downsized. Promoted.
Furthermore, the liquid fuel cartridge may be any structure as long as fuel is sent to the fuel supply chamber on the fuel cell system side, and the structure of the liquid fuel cartridge is simplified.
In the fuel cell system of the present invention, it is desirable to provide at least an opening / closing means for opening / closing the fuel flow path from the outside.
In a fuel cell system, liquid fuel is sequentially supplied as it is consumed by the fuel cell, regardless of whether or not the device on which the fuel cell system is mounted is in operation. There is a possibility that the fuel is always consumed in the fuel cell, and there is a concern that the liquid fuel is wasted.
On the other hand, in the present invention, when the fuel flow path is closed by the opening / closing means when electric power is unnecessary, the supply of the liquid fuel is surely stopped, and there is no fear that the liquid fuel is wasted.
According to the liquid fuel cartridge for a fuel cell and the fuel cell system of the present invention, there is an effect that the system can be surely downsized.
Hereinafter, each embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In the second embodiment to be described later, the same reference numerals are given to the same constituent members or the constituent members having the same functions as those of the first embodiment described below, and the description thereof will be omitted or simplified.
[First Embodiment]
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing a main part of a
In FIG. 1, a fuel cell system 1 is a system that is employed in a portable device such as a PDA or a mobile phone, or a small terminal device such as a personal computer, and includes a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. In addition, when the polymer electrolyte fuel cell is a direct methanol fuel cell, a reformer is unnecessary, but in a type that reforms liquid fuel, a reformer is used.
The liquid fuel is a methanol aqueous solution in a direct methanol fuel cell. However, when a reformer is used, for example, a borohydride fuel such as a sodium borohydride aqueous solution, a potassium borohydride aqueous solution, or a lithium borohydride aqueous solution, Organic hydride fuels such as decalin, cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane, and alcohol fuels such as methanol, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol can be employed. In addition, when using sodium borohydride aqueous solution as a fuel, the thing of the fuel composition of 3g of sodium hydroxide, 27g of pure waters, and 5.5g of sodium borohydride can be employ | adopted.
In such a fuel cell system 1, the system side
On the other hand, the
In FIG. 1, a
On the downstream end side of the
Furthermore, an elastic
Here, the
The pressure in the
A

According to this embodiment, there are the following effects.
(1) In the
Further, it is not necessary to use a large fuel tank to store the liquid fuel, and it is possible to promote downsizing of the device.
(2) Further, in the
In addition, since the supply and stop of the liquid fuel are performed using the differential pressure as described above, such a
(3) The
(4) Since the
(5) Since the fuel in the
Further, the volume variable means 15 can reliably deliver the liquid fuel from the
(6) In the fuel cell system 1, since the switching valve 4 is provided in the middle of the
(7) In the case of using an aqueous methanol solution as the liquid fuel and supplying it directly to the methanol fuel cell, it is consumed that equimolar amounts of pure water and methanol (methanol concentration is about 64%), It is only necessary to put an equimolar amount of methanol aqueous solution in the

In FIG. 3, as the
The
Such a configuration is effective for a fuel cell system in which a reformer is used. In other words, when a reformer is used, when the fuel supplied to the reformer is reformed, a large amount of hydrogen is generated, and the pressure increases significantly. Since the minimum value of this pressure is much larger than the pressure in the
In the present embodiment, since the
Also in the present embodiment, the effects (1) to (7) described above can be obtained in the same manner with the same configuration as in the first embodiment.

Also in this embodiment, the effect (5) in the first embodiment can be obtained similarly.

Also in this embodiment, the effect (5) in the first embodiment can be obtained similarly.
[Fifth Embodiment]
In addition to the structure in which the
Even in this embodiment, although the configuration is different, the effect of (5) can be obtained similarly.

The volume varying means 15 of the sixth embodiment shown in FIG. 7 has a structure including a plurality (four in this embodiment) of small

According to the present embodiment, the following effects are obtained by the unique configuration.

The volume varying means 15 of the seventh embodiment shown in FIG. 8 is different from the sixth embodiment in that a detecting

Therefore, this embodiment has the following effects.

[Eighth Embodiment]
The volume varying means 15 of the eighth embodiment shown in FIG. 9 is a modification (FIG. 6) of the fifth embodiment.
That is, the
In this embodiment, as the liquid fuel flows out, the
According to the present embodiment, although the configuration is different, the same effect as in the sixth and seventh embodiments can be obtained.

The volume varying means 15 of the ninth embodiment shown in FIG. 10 rotatably supports the back side (the side far from the valve assembly) of the

Therefore, even in the present embodiment, the same effects as those in the sixth and seventh embodiments can be obtained although the configuration is different.
[Tenth embodiment]
11 and 12 show a modification of the
The
In such a structure, it is important that the
In the present embodiment, as shown in FIG. 12, the
On the other hand, returning to FIG. 11, the
According to the present embodiment as described above, the following effects can be obtained by the unique configuration.
(10) Since the
(11) The
(12) Further, since the
In this embodiment, the same effect as that of the second embodiment can be obtained.
