Description
以上のように、コレステリック液晶を用いたカラー液晶表示素子は、特に下層に配置される液晶層の表示色における色再現性やコントラストが比較的低いという問題を有している。
例えば、上記実施の形態ではコレステリック液晶を用いたカラー液晶表示素子を例に挙げたが、本発明はこれに限らず、他の表示素子にも適用できる。

Claims (5)
- コレステリック相を形成する第1の液晶層と、前記第1の液晶層の表示面側に積層された、コレステリック相を形成する第2の液晶層とを備えた表示部と、
入力画像データの入力階調値を第1の表示階調値に変換して、前記第1の液晶層に表示させる第1の表示画像データを生成し、前記入力階調値を前記第1の表示階調値とは値が異なる第2の表示階調値に変換して、前記第2の液晶層に表示させる第2の表示画像データを生成する制御部とを有し、
前記入力階調値から変換される前記第1の表示階調値は、当該入力階調値から変換される前記第2の表示階調値よりも高階調側で高く、かつ/又は、低階調側で低いこと
を特徴とする液晶表示素子。 - 請求項1記載の液晶表示素子において、
前記表示部近傍の温度を検出する環境温度検知部を備え、
同一の前記入力階調値から変換される前記第1の表示階調値は、検出した前記温度によって値が異なること
を特徴とする液晶表示素子。 - 請求項2記載の液晶表示素子において、
高階調側の前記入力階調値から変換される前記第1の表示階調値は、前記温度が低いほど高いこと
を特徴とする液晶表示素子。 - 請求項2又は3に記載の液晶表示素子において、
低階調側の前記入力階調値から変換される前記第1の表示階調値は、前記温度が低いほど低いこと
を特徴とする液晶表示素子。 - 請求項1乃至4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示素子を備えていること
を特徴とする電子ペーパー。
