Description
帯電粒子を有する電気泳動媒体と、
複数の画像素子と、
各画像素子に対応し、電位差が印加される第1および第2の電極と、
駆動手段と、
を有し、
前記画像が表示される際、前記帯電粒子は、前記電極近傍の端部位置の一方、および前記電極間の中間位置を占めることができ、
前記駆動手段は、各画像素子の前記電位差を、
粒子が実質的に前記端部位置の一方を占めることができるリセット値およびリセット時間を有するリセット電位差に制御し、その後、
前記粒子が前記画像情報に対応する前記位置を占めることができる画像電位差に制御するように配置される、電気泳動表示パネルに関する。
Claims (7)
- 画像情報に対応する画像を表示する電気泳動表示パネルであって、
帯電粒子を有する電気泳動媒体と、
複数の画像素子と、
各画像素子に対応し、電位差が印加される第1および第2の電極と、
駆動手段と、
を有し、
前記画像が表示される際、前記帯電粒子は、前記電極近傍の端部位置の一方、または前記電極間の中間位置のいずれかを占めることができ、
前記駆動手段は、各画像素子の前記電位差を、
粒子が実質的に前記端部位置の一方を占めることができるリセット値およびリセット時間を有するリセット電位差に制御し、その後、
前記粒子が前記画像情報に対応する前記位置を占めることができる画像電位差に制御するように配置され、
さらに前記駆動手段は、前記リセット時間に、追加リセット時間を提供するように配置され、
前記追加リセット時間は、照合時間の10分の1よりも長く、該照合時間の3倍よりも短く、該照合時間は、前記画像素子の粒子の位置が、前記端部位置の一方から前記端部位置の他方まで変化する時間に等しく、
さらに前記駆動手段は、前記画像素子に前記リセット電位差を印加して、前記粒子が、前記画像情報に対応する前記粒子の前記位置に最近接の前記端部位置を占めるように配置されることを特徴とする電気泳動表示パネル。 - 各画像素子は、前記複数の画像素子のうちの一つであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示パネル。
- 各画像素子におけるそれぞれの前記リセット時間とそれぞれの前記追加リセット時間の合計は、それぞれ実質的に等しく、一定であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示パネル。
- 前記画像素子は、実質的に複数の直線に沿って配置され、前記画像素子は、粒子が実質的に前記端部位置の一方を占めている場合、実質的に等しい第1の外観を呈し、前記画像素子は、粒子が実質的に前記端部位置の他方を占めている場合、実質的に等しい第2の外観を呈し、
さらに前記駆動手段は、各直線に沿った前記画像素子の前記リセット電位差を制御して、各直線に沿って隣接する画像素子における粒子が実質的に異なる端部位置を占めるように配置されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示パネル。 - 前記画像素子は、2次元マトリクス内に配置され、
前記マトリクスの各行は所定の第1の数の画像素子を有し、前記マトリクスの各列は所定の第2の数の画像素子を有し、
前記画像素子は、粒子が実質的に前記端部位置の一方を占める場合には、実質的に等しい第1の外観を呈し、前記画像素子は、粒子が実質的に前記端部位置の他方を占める場合には、実質的に等しい第2の外観を呈し、
さらに前記駆動手段は、
各行に沿った前記画像素子の前記リセット電位差を制御して、各行に沿った隣接する画像素子における粒子が実質的に異なる端部位置を占めるように配置され、
各列に沿った前記画像素子の前記リセット電位差を制御して、各列に沿った隣接する画像素子における粒子が実質的に異なる端部位置を占めるように配置されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示パネル。 - さらに前記駆動手段は、前記リセット電位差の前に、一連のプリセット電位差を提供するように配置され、
前記一連のプリセット電位差は、プリセット値および対応するプリセット時間を有し、
シーケンス内の前記プリセット値は、極性が交互に切り替えられ、前記プリセット電位差は、前記端部位置の一方から、粒子が開放されるには十分なプリセットエネルギーであって、前記粒子が、前記端部位置の他方に到達するには不十分なプリセットエネルギーを示すことを特徴とする請求項1乃至5のいずれか一つに記載の表示パネル。 - さらに前記駆動手段は、前記リセット電位差と前記画像電位差の期間内に、別の一連のプリセット電位差が提供されるように配置されることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の表示パネル。
