Description
The present invention relates to an optical fiber cutting technique performed when optical fibers are brought into contact with each other and mechanically connected. In particular, the optical fiber core can be cut without removing the coating of the optical fiber. The present invention relates to an optical fiber cutting tool and a cutting method.
Conventionally, optical connectors, fiber fusion splicing, mechanical splices or the like are used for connecting optical fibers. In particular, mechanical splices are widely used in optical wiring work and the like because optical connection is possible with a simple operation compared to optical connector assembly and the like.
Regarding mechanical splices, for example, those described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 9-61655 (Patent Document 1), Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-324638 (Patent Document 2), and the like are known. The mechanical splice is performed by removing the coating of the optical fiber core, cleaning the optical fiber, cleaving the optical fiber, or inserting the optical fiber into a V-groove component.
However, when connecting an optical fiber by mechanical splicing or the like, it is necessary to handle the optical fiber with the coating of the optical fiber core removed, so there is a problem of breakage such as breaking the optical fiber during work. It was. An optical fiber is generally an ultrafine glass having a diameter of 125 μm or 80 μm, and has a high risk of being easily broken during work.
In addition, when an optical fiber is handled in a state where the coating of the optical fiber core is removed, there is a problem that the number of work steps increases, such as removal of the coating of the optical fiber core and cleaning of the optical fiber.
An object of the present invention is to provide a technique for cutting an optical fiber when connecting the optical fiber by a simple method without damaging the optical fiber.
The present invention has been made to achieve the above object.
The outline of the present invention will be described below.
a) A tool for cutting an optical fiber has a cutting blade for scratching the side surface of the optical fiber in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber, and the side surface of the optical fiber is scratched by the cutting blade The optical fiber core wire holding portion for holding the optical fiber core wire having the coating is provided on both sides (front side and opposite side) of the portion with respect to the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber. Having an optical fiber core pressing part for pressing the optical fiber core by directly contacting the side surface of the coating of the optical fiber core on the back side at the same position in the longitudinal direction of the portion to be scratched; The portion has a structure that can move in the diameter direction of the optical fiber, and the optical fiber core wire holding portion has a structure that can apply a load in the direction of the optical fiber. And that (see claim 1).
Conventionally, in opposition alignment of optical fibers such as mechanical splices, first, the
Cleaving of the
Thereafter, the two cleaved
However, the
On the other hand, the optical fiber cutting tool according to the present invention has an optical fiber core
In the present invention, in the above-described optical fiber cutting tool, the portion of the optical fiber core
Furthermore, in the present invention, in the above-described optical fiber cutting tool, the
Moreover, in this invention, in the above-mentioned optical fiber cutting tool, the optical fiber core
Further, by using the above-described optical fiber cutting tool, an optical fiber cutting method for cutting the optical
According to the present invention, by using the optical fiber cutting tool as described above, it becomes possible to cleave (cut) without removing the coating of the optical fiber core wire. This eliminates the need to handle the optical fiber in a state where the coating is removed, thereby reducing the number of work steps and greatly reducing the probability of damaging the optical fiber during the work.
EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although an Example demonstrates this invention further more concretely, this invention is not limited to these Examples.
(Example 1)
A conventional commercially available optical fiber cutting tool as shown in FIG. 15 is compared with the optical fiber cutting tool of the present invention having the fiber core
An attempt was made to cut the optical fiber using the optical fiber cutting tool of FIG. When the optical
In the conventional optical fiber cutting tool as shown in FIG. 15, the height of the
On the other hand, when the optical fiber cutting tool of the present invention having the fiber core
The actual work was performed using the optical fiber cutting tool shown in FIGS.
FIG. 4 is a view showing an example of the structure of an optical fiber cutting tool having an optical fiber core holding part, FIG. 5 is a view showing the structure when the optical fiber cutting tool shown in FIG. 4 is viewed from the right direction, 6 is a diagram showing the structure when the optical fiber cutting tool shown in FIG. 4 is viewed from the left direction, and FIG. 7 is the structure when the optical fiber cutting tool shown in FIG. 4 is viewed from above. FIG.
The optical fiber cutting tool shown in FIGS. 4 to 7 includes an optical fiber
The
In this case, since stress from the side is always applied to the
(Example 2)
As described above, by using the optical fiber cutting tool of the present invention having the fiber core
When the optical fiber is cleaved after being scratched on the side surface of the optical fiber, a cleaved surface that is smooth and perpendicular to the optical fiber is formed as shown in FIG. When the
When the optical fiber cutting tool of the present invention as shown in FIGS. 4 to 7 is used, if the speed at which the
However, in the present invention, as shown in an example in FIG. 10, the portion of the optical fiber
Actually, when the portion of the optical fiber core
(Example 3)
Since optical fibers are manufactured with very high accuracy and the differences among manufacturers are small, a conventional optical fiber cutting tool as shown in FIG. 15 can be used for various optical fibers of various manufacturers. A smooth cleavage plane perpendicular to the optical fiber can be obtained as shown in an example.
However, since the coating of the
In the optical fiber cutting tool of the present invention, the
Next, optical fiber cutting using optical fiber cores of different manufacturers is compared using an optical fiber cutting tool having a configuration as shown in FIGS.
First, optical fiber cutting is performed under different weighting conditions, and then the same operation is performed using an optical fiber core wire having an outer diameter of 0.25 mm from a different manufacturer.
The optical fiber was cut by changing the weighting condition from 10 gf to 50 gf in increments of 5 gf (gf; weight gram, 1 gf≈9.80665 mN). The case where the cut portion of the optical fiber is a smooth and cleaved surface perpendicular to the optical fiber as shown in FIG. 8 is OK, and the others are NG.
(a)加重10gf〜25gf:NG
(b)加重30gf〜40gf:OK
(c)加重45gf〜50gf:NG
The results of optical fiber cutting are as shown below.
(A)
(B) Weight 30gf-40gf: OK
(C) Weight 45gf-50gf: NG
When the load is 25 gf or less, the cutting blade cannot penetrate the coating of the optical fiber core wire, and the side surface of the optical fiber cannot be scratched, so that the optical fiber cannot be cut. Further, when the load is 45 gf or more, the fracture surface has many irregularities formed on the end face of the optical fiber as shown in FIG.
(a)加重10gf〜30gf:NG
Subsequently, the same work was performed using an optical fiber core wire from a different manufacturer. as a result,
(A) Weight 10gf-30gf: NG
(B) Weight 35gf-50gf: OK
It became.
In this example, unlike the previous result, even when the load is 30 gf, the cutting blade cannot penetrate the coating of the optical fiber core wire, and the side surface of the optical fiber cannot be scratched. I could not.
Further, even when the load was 45 gf or more, a smooth and cleaved surface perpendicular to the optical fiber as shown in FIG. 8 could be obtained. Although no work is performed with a weight greater than 50 gf, it is considered that a fracture surface with many irregularities formed on the end face of the optical fiber as shown in FIG.
Thus, according to the present invention, it is possible to cut various optical fiber core wires without removing the coating. In addition, the condition at the time of cutting the optical fiber changes depending on the shape or state of the cutting blade. Even in such a case, a smooth cleavage plane perpendicular to the optical fiber as shown in FIG. Can be obtained.
Example 4
The optical fiber cutting tool according to the present invention is provided with an optical fiber core holding portion, and the optical fiber core wire is fixed. Therefore, even if a slight load is applied to the optical fiber core wire, the optical fiber core wire is not Although it does not bend, if the weight of the weight on the optical fiber is increased, there arises a problem that the optical fiber is bent as shown in FIG.
Further, when the cutting blade crosses the optical fiber core, the optical fiber core floats upward. When the optical fiber core is curved, as shown in FIG. There arises a problem that the line is bent or moved in the same direction as the moving direction of the cutting blade.
In such a case, since the condition for the cutting blade to cut off the coating of the optical fiber core wire changes every operation, the yield of the cut surface of the optical fiber is deteriorated. Actually, as shown in FIG. 3, when the optical fiber was cut with the optical fiber core being bent, the yield was reduced to about 60%.
On the other hand, the optical fiber core wire pressing portion of the present invention is restricted from moving in the direction of the optical fiber by weighting rather than the state where the optical fiber core wire pressing portion is in direct contact with the side surface of the coating of the optical fiber core wire. When an optical fiber cutting tool characterized by having a structure (see the regulating means 17 in FIG. 6B) was used, no yield reduction was observed. Needless to say, the present invention can be applied to any optical fiber having a diameter of 125 μm or 80 μm currently on the market, and can also be applied to cutting optical fibers having other diameters.
