Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a digital copying machine or a printer having a function of always setting an image writing position on a transfer sheet to the same position.
In an image forming apparatus having a function of forming an image on both sides of a transfer sheet, when the writing position in the transfer sheet width direction (hereinafter referred to as main scanning direction) is shifted, the vertical lines that should be formed at the same position on the front and back sides There is a problem that does not overlap. Another problem is that even when image formation is performed on one side, the image position in the main scanning direction does not match during continuous copying.
This problem is caused by a shift in the writing position in the main scanning direction (hereinafter referred to as main scanning resist). In general, image forming apparatuses have different internal skew and paper feed tray set position for each machine.
For this reason, conventionally, at the time of shipment from the factory, a correction value is obtained so that the main scanning registration becomes the target position for each unit by mechanical registration adjustment, and the correction value is corrected during the printing operation. However, variations occur due to transfer paper set failure in the paper feed tray, machine internal skew, and the like.
In order to detect the amount of misalignment of the main scanning resist on the transfer paper, a CCD, CIS (contact image sensor), etc. are arranged on the transfer paper transport path for detecting the end of the transfer paper, and the main scanning resist on the transfer paper at this position. A technique is considered in which main scanning registration correction is performed for each transfer sheet by detecting the amount of misalignment and adjusting the writing position on the transfer sheet.
FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram showing the edge detection range of the transfer paper.
In such a technique, the range for detecting the end (edge) of the transfer paper differs depending on the system, but the detection operation is performed in the range indicated by the shaded portion in FIG. Since a reduction optical system using a CCD has a large size, CIS is often used for detecting the edge of the transfer paper.
However, the causes of variation in the CIS output signal level at this time may include initial variation in LED light amount, short-term variation in light amount, light amount life, CIS sensitivity variation, and the like. In addition, the influence of variation in the density of the transfer paper to be adjusted can be considered.
The same type of transfer paper is not always used, and the density of CIS output varies depending on the type of white paper. In addition, colored paper may be used as transfer paper, and the CIS output level varies depending on the emission wavelength of the LED light source and the spectral reflectance characteristics of the colored paper. For example, when the LED light source is a yellow-green light source whose emission wavelength center is 570 (nm), the CIS output levels of the blue and red transfer papers are lower than the green paper.
In a detection device using CIS, an analog signal from CIS is converted into a binary digital signal by a comparator. However, as described above, if the CIS output signal level is small, it is likely that the CIS output signal level is easily affected by noise or the like due to a decrease in gradation, or malfunction may occur without reaching the threshold voltage of the comparator.
FIG. 8 is a graph showing the relationship between the CIS output level and the pixel position.
As another problem, when the LED light amount is constant and the edge of the transfer sheet of white paper and colored paper is detected, each pixel output level of CIS is affected by the reflected light from the surroundings, so that the transfer paper The CIS output level change at the end becomes a gentle change as shown in FIG.
In FIG. 8, the TH (threshold) voltage of the comparator is the center voltage of the change in the edge of the white paper, so that the edge of the transfer paper can be detected. However, since the center voltage is not used for the CIS output level of colored paper, the inner edge of the colored paper is detected as the edge. As described above, an error (displacement) in the edge position detected depending on the type of transfer paper occurs.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an LED light amount (output level) adjustment value for each type of transfer paper in consideration of the above-described circumstances, and to correct the photosensitive drum writing position with this light amount adjustment value and to adjust the LED. An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus that achieves the optimum target value of the main scanning resist even when the amount of light varies.

FIG. 4 is a drive circuit diagram of a CIS_LED signal in constant current lighting. In constant current lighting, for example, the CIS_LED signal is driven by DC by a circuit as shown in FIG. In this circuit, the LED_PWM signal, which is a pulse signal, is converted to DC by an integration circuit, so that the light amount can be adjusted by changing the duty of the pulse signal.
In FIG. 3, an analog signal from the
The CIS output level depends on the accumulation time of one line = CIS_SH cycle in addition to the amount of light. As the light amount (output level) adjustment value, an LED light amount setting value and an accumulation time setting value for the one line can be considered.

FIG. 6 is a flowchart for explaining the light amount adjustment. The light quantity adjustment procedure will be described with reference to FIG. In determining whether the light amount adjustment is completed, it is detected whether P_EDGE is “L” for the target number of pixels in one line (P_EDGE = “L” level is the level when the presence of transfer paper is detected), and CIS Reduce the output level.
When even one pixel has P_EDGE = “H” level, it is determined that the image peak level is in the vicinity of the threshold voltage of the comparator 26 (FIG. 3), and the CIS output is adjusted so that the current α times output is obtained. Adjustment is completed.
In a system in which the CIS output level of the background other than the transfer paper is almost 0V, the TH voltage level of the
Hereinafter, it demonstrates according to a flow. When the light amount adjustment mode is set after the power is turned on, the transfer paper is conveyed to the CIS and stopped. In this state, the
In this state, it is determined whether the “L” width of the P_EDGE signal is equal to or greater than a predetermined number of pixels (is P_EDGE all pixels “L”?) (S2).
If the number of pixels is greater than or equal to the predetermined number, in step S3, the current setting value A = Down is set to reduce the light amount.
Here, the amount by which the amount of light is reduced is determined from the CIS characteristic evaluation at the time of system design.
Next, in step S4, it is determined whether or not the P_EDGE all pixels are “H”, and even one pixel is set to the “H” level as compared with the number of pixels when determining whether or not the P_EDGE all pixels are “L” in the above step S2. Detect whether there is a pixel.
If there is no “H” level pixel, the process returns to step S3, the amount of light is further reduced by the current setting value A = Down, and the above operation is repeated. In step S4, is all the P_EDGE pixels “H”? In step S2, is P_EDGE all pixels "L"? This process is repeated until a pixel that becomes “H” level appears even if one pixel is compared with the number of pixels.
Is P_EDGE all pixels "H" in step S2? When an “H” level pixel is generated, a current setting value A = A × α (S5) is set to a current that is α times the current current setting value. This α times becomes an upper voltage margin with respect to the threshold voltage of the comparator 26 (FIG. 3).
Next, it is determined whether or not A × α exceeds the max current (S6). If the A × α does not exceed the max current, the light amount adjustment ends at this point. Is P_EDGE all pixels "L" in step S2? If the specified number of pixels is not at the “L” level and if A × α exceeds the max current in step S6, the light amount adjustment error is set in step S7.
