Description
本発明は、携帯式X線器具が測定値を得ている場合に周囲放射線を最少にするための方法およびデバイスに関する。
X線蛍光(XRF)器具は、物質にX線またはγ線を照射すること、およびその蛍光放射線を分析して特殊な特性を決定することによって、その物質の特性を測定する。用語「X線」とは、本明細書中で使用される場合、およびあらゆる添付の特許請求の範囲において、放射性源によって生成されるかまたは器具(例えば、X線管)によって生成されるかのいずれかである放射線を指し、この用語は、透過性放射線のすべての形態(γ線を含む)をその用語内に包含する。決定されるべき特殊な特性としては、照射された対象物の元素組成、またはその対象物の近傍表面における特定元素の分布、またはその対象物の密度、またはその形態が挙げられ得る。
本発明の好ましい実施形態に従って、放射線遮蔽物が提供される。この放射線遮蔽物は、電離放射線を吸収する物質を含む膜からなり、この膜は、物質を検査するために使用されるXRF器具の前面に結合されており、すべての方向でその前面から延びており、検査される壁に対して近位に存在し、この膜は、この膜が検査される壁の表面に適合するに充分に可撓性であり、この膜は、放射線の安全性についての最低限の要件を下回るまで放射線レベルを低減するために充分な厚さである。
本発明の実施形態に従い、ここで図1を参照して記載されるように、カラーの形態の遮蔽は、多重散乱X線が、規制限度を超えるのに充分な強度でXRF器具から比較的遠い壁を出るのを防ぐために使用される。
以下の考察は、含鉛塗料分析のために使用されるXRF器具に特に言及するが、示される結論および記載される発明は、広範な適用群(特に、土壌およびプラスチックのXRF分析)に適用可能であることが、認識されるべきである。
Claims (6)
- 携帯式X線蛍光器具から放射される透過性放射線により照射された表面から一定距離における周囲放射線レベルを減少するための放射線遮蔽物であって、該器具は、該照射された表面に当接するため、および該照射された表面に対して実質的に垂直な伝搬方向に該透過性放射線を発するための、遠位端によって特徴付けられ、該放射線遮蔽物は、
透過性放射線の伝搬方向に対して実質的に横向きである面内に配置され、かつ該照射される表面に対して実質的に近接している、減弱物質製プラテンを備え、該プラテンが、当接した表面の輪郭に適合するように十分可撓性であり、該減弱物質製プラテンが該器具に結合されている、放射線遮蔽物。 - 請求項1に記載の放射線遮蔽物であって、前記減弱物質は、ポリマーマトリックス中に包埋された、原子番号が45よりも大きい金属である、放射線遮蔽物。
- 請求項1に記載の放射線遮蔽物であって、前記減弱物質製プラテンは、固定具によって前記器具に結合されている、放射線遮蔽物。
- 請求項1に記載の放射線遮蔽物であって、前記減弱物質製プラテンは、前記器具から取り外し可能である、放射線遮蔽物。
- 請求項1に記載の放射線遮蔽物であって、前記減弱物質製プラテンは、エラストマーの外層を含む、放射線遮蔽物。
- 請求項1に記載の放射線遮蔽物であって、減弱物質製プラテンは、前記照射された表面と複数回相互作用した電離放射線が、前記周囲環境を通って伝搬する前に該放射線遮蔽物によって減弱されるような、大きさである、放射線遮蔽物。
