Description
ここで、特に上述の構成によれば、発光素子消灯時においては、第1受光素子へは外来光のみが入射している。発光素子点灯時においては、第1受光素子へは外来光および発光素子からの光の両方が入射している。したがって、第1受光素子へ発光素子からの光のみが入射しているときの第1受光素子の出力信号、すなわち、第3出力信号は、発光素子点灯時の第1受光素子の合計出力信号と第1出力信号との差として容易且つ正確に算出される。すなわち、一つの第1受光素子を用いて2種類の出力信号を取得するので、複数の受光素子を用いる場合と比べて受光素子間の特性ばらつきによる影響を排除して精度良く検出することができる。

Claims (3)
- ウィンドシールドおよび前記ウィンドシールドの室内側に配置された導光体を透過した車外からの光である外来光を受光する第1受光素子を備え、前記第1受光素子が前記外来光のみの受光量に応じて発する第1出力信号に基づいて車外の明るさを検出する照度センサであって、
車室内に配置され、光を前記ウィンドシールドへ向けて出射する発光素子と、
前記発光素子から発せられ前記ウィンドシールドの前記導光体と反対側の表面で反射した光である第1反射光を受光しその受光量に応じた大きさの第2出力信号を発する第2受光素子と、を備え、
前記導光体は、前記発光素子からの光が前記導光体を透過して前記ウィンドシールドへ入射するとともに、当該入射光についての前記第1反射光が前記導光体を透過して前記第2受光素子へ入射するように形成され、
前記導光体は、前記発光素子からの光を前記第1受光素子へ向けて反射する反射面を備え、前記導光体および前記ウィンドシールドを透過しないで当該反射面で反射した光である第2反射光が、前記第1受光素子により受光され、
前記ウィンドシールド内において、前記外来光は、前記表面へ向かう前記発光素子からの光が通過する領域および前記第1反射光が通過する領域の少なくともどちらか一方を通過し、
前記発光素子への通電は間歇的に行われ、前記第1受光素子は、前記発光素子への通電が行われず前記発光素子が消灯しているとき、前記外来光のみを受光しその受光量に応じた大きさの第1出力信号を発する一方、前記発光素子への通電が行われて前記発光素子が点灯しているとき、前記発光素子から発せられて前記反射面で反射した光である前記第2反射光および前記外来光を同時に受光しその受光量に応じた大きさの合計出力信号を発し、
前記ウィンドシールドにおいて前記外来光が通過する領域の透過率変化を、前記合計出力信号と前記第1出力信号との差である第3出力信号、および前記第2出力信号に基づいて判定し、当該判定結果に基づいて前記第1出力信号を補正して車外の明るさを検出することを特徴とする照度センサ。 - 前記発光素子、前記第1受光素子および前記第2受光素子は、前記ウィンドシールドに付着した雨滴量を検出する雨滴センサを構成し、
前記雨滴センサは、前記第3出力信号および前記第2出力信号に基づいて前記透過率変化を判定し、当該判定結果に基づいて前記第2出力信号を補正して前記雨滴量を算出することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照度センサ。 - 前記第1受光素子、前記第2受光素子および前記発光素子は、それぞれの光軸が同一平面内に含まれるように配置され、
前記第1受光素子、前記第2受光素子および前記発光素子は、一方の端部から前記発光素子、前記第1受光素子、前記第2受光素子の順番で配置されることを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載の照度センサ。
