【0001】
【0072】
SF−1={(MXLNG)2/(AREA)×(100π/4)}
【0073】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus using an electrophotographic method, and more particularly to an image forming apparatus using an intermediate transfer belt.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, as a color image forming apparatus, various methods such as an electrophotographic method, a thermal transfer method, and an ink jet method are known. Of these, an electrophotographic method is an image compared to other methods. It is excellent in terms of formation speed, image quality, and quietness.
[0003]
There are various types of image forming apparatuses that employ an electrophotographic system. For example, a multiple development method in which a color image (a plurality of color toner images) is superimposed on the surface of an electrophotographic photosensitive member and then transferred onto a transfer material to form an image, a multiple transfer method in which a development / transfer cycle is repeated, In addition, there is an intermediate transfer method in which toner images of respective colors are sequentially primary transferred onto an intermediate transfer body and then transferred onto a transfer material at once. Of these, the intermediate transfer type has advantages such as no possibility of color mixing and the use of various transfer materials having different qualities and thicknesses.
[0004]
FIG. 8 shows an outline of a four-color full-color laser beam printer as an example of an intermediate transfer type image forming apparatus.
[0005]
As shown in FIG. 8, on the peripheral surface of the photosensitive drum 1 as an image carrier, a charger 2 and an exposure device 3 that irradiates the photosensitive drum 1 with laser light in order along the rotation direction (arrow R1 direction). A developing device 5, an intermediate transfer belt 9, and a
[0006]
In the drawing, the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 having a diameter of 46.7 mm that is rotationally driven in the direction of the arrow R1 at a surface speed of 117 mm / second is charged negatively by the charger 2.
[0007]
The potential of the surface of the photosensitive drum 1 charged by the charger 2 (hereinafter, charged potential) is usually −450 V to −800 V. In addition, a charging bias in which a DC voltage is superimposed on an alternating voltage is applied to the charger 2 by a charger power source 17. Charging can be performed efficiently by using a charging bias in which a DC voltage is superimposed on an alternating voltage.
[0008]
An electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface of the charged photosensitive drum 1 by the exposure L of the exposure means 3 corresponding to the image information. Here, the exposure unit 3 includes a light source 3a such as a laser, a six-

Where Copy For example, the belt 9 is made of an endless resin belt having a thickness of about 0.05 mm to about 0.3 mm and a volume resistivity of 10 mm. Ten -10 16 A material whose resistance is adjusted to about Ω · cm can be used. In this case, as the material of the resin belt, for example, PVdF (polyvinylidene fluoride), polyamide, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), a resin film such as polycarbonate (resistance is adjusted as necessary), and the like can be used. . Further, the resin belt is made of carbon, ZnO, SnO. 2 And TiO 2 With a conductive filler such as 7 -10 11 In some cases, it is adjusted to about Ω · cm. Like the latter, intermediate transfer is achieved by reducing the resistance to low to medium. Copy It is possible to prevent image defects due to the accumulation of electric charges in the belt 9. Intermediate rotation Copy By using a highly rigid resin as the bolt 9, the generation of wrinkles of the belt during rotation is prevented.
[0012]
As the belt rotates, it receives a force in a direction perpendicular to the direction of travel. This force is generated by a subtle shift in the parallelism of the support shaft that supports the belt. However, this shift cannot be completely eliminated due to manufacturing tolerances. Therefore, intermediate transfer Copy A material having high rigidity is used as the bolt 9, and wrinkles due to this force are prevented.

The series of image forming processes of charging, exposure, development, primary transfer, cleaning, and charge removal described above is performed for the toners of the second color magenta, the third color cyan, and the fourth color yellow stored in the developing
[0017]
By the way Copy The surface of the belt 9 is gradually charged up to a negative polarity every primary transfer. In addition, if the primary transfer of the first color and the second color is advanced, the intermediate transfer is already completed. Copy There is a need to place toner on the belt 9 where toner is placed. Therefore, in order to perform primary transfer efficiently, it is necessary to gradually increase the primary transfer bias for each color.
[0018]
In the conventional example shown here, a primary transfer bias of +100 V for the first color, +500 V for the second color, +600 V for the third color, and +700 V for the fourth color was used.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when a solid image is printed using the intermediate transfer belt used in the conventional example in an image forming apparatus, the density becomes non-uniform in a direction perpendicular to the advancing direction of the transfer material P (hereinafter referred to as a longitudinal direction). Thereafter, density unevenness occurred, and the image quality deteriorated.
[0024]
An object of the present invention is to solve the above-described problems, and is intended to be used for intermediate rotation with high rigidity. Copy An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses occurrence of density unevenness and prevents image quality deterioration in an image forming apparatus.
[0025]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the present invention, a toner image formed on the surface of a photosensitive drum as an image carrier is primarily transferred to a surface which is a toner image carrying surface of an intermediate transfer belt at a primary transfer nip, and the toner image is carried on the intermediate transfer belt. In an image forming apparatus for performing image formation by secondarily transferring a toner image primarily transferred to a surface, which is a surface, to the surface of a transfer material at a secondary transfer nip portion,
The intermediate transfer belt has a resin base and an elastic layer provided on the resin base; The resin is polycarbonate or polyimide; The surface of the elastic layer is the toner image carrying surface of the intermediate transfer belt, the JIS-A hardness of the elastic layer is in the range of 25 degrees to 80 degrees, and the thickness of the resin substrate is 0.05 mm to 0 mm. An image forming apparatus is provided in which the elastic layer has a thickness of 0.02 mm to 1.0 mm.

[0032]
According to the study by the present inventors, the occurrence of density unevenness is caused by the width of the primary transfer nip portion N1 being non-uniform in the longitudinal direction as shown in FIG. The narrower the width of the primary transfer nip portion N1, the smaller the current flowing through the primary transfer nip portion N1 during the primary transfer, resulting in lower transfer efficiency and lower density.

[0052]
In the case of a tandem image forming apparatus, the width of the primary transfer nip (N1m, N1c, N1y, N1bk) is not uniform in the longitudinal direction. This not only causes density unevenness but also multiple colors such as green and red. In the color formed by superposing the toners, the color becomes non-uniform. Therefore, in the tandem method, the intermediate transfer of the present invention is performed. By the way, in this example, T The toner manufactured by the pulverization method is used, but the cleaning property is further improved by using the spherical polymer toner manufactured by the suspension polymerization method. Spherical polymer toner has a larger surface area per unit volume and is easily charged compared to toner produced by a pulverization method.
[0070]
According to the study of the present inventor, when toner of 100 to 120 is used as a spherical coefficient SF-1 (details will be described later) which is a numerical value indicating the ratio of the roundness of the shape of the spherical substance, the charging property is improved.
[0071]
<About the shape factor SF-1>
The shape factor SF-1 is obtained by an expression obtained by dividing the square of the maximum length MXLNG of an elliptical figure formed by projecting a spherical substance on a two-dimensional plane by the figure area AREA and multiplying by 100π / 4.
[0072]
SF-1 = {(MXLNG) 2 / (AREA) × (100π / 4)}
