BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a graphic processing apparatus and a method for calculating the shortest distance between graphic elements in the apparatus, and more particularly to calculation of the shortest distance between graphic elements projected in a direction required by a user in a CAD system or the like.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, the performance of computers has dramatically improved, and various processes can be performed on computers. For example, CAD for simulating a design from various aspects on a computer has conventionally required an expensive computer such as a minicomputer, but in recent years there are many that can be realized on a personal computer.
[0003]
A CAD system generally expresses a design by a combination of graphic elements (points, ridge lines, surfaces, etc.). In this case, it is necessary to obtain a distance between the graphic elements.
[0004]
Conventionally, the following methods are known as methods for obtaining the shortest distance between graphic elements.
[0005]
(1) While displaying a 3D model to be measured on a computer display, two elements to be measured such as a point, a ridgeline, and a surface desired by a user are sequentially indicated by an input unit such as a mouse. A method for calculating the shortest distance in a three-dimensional space between the two and displaying the shortest distance calculated using a result display means prepared separately.
[0006]
(2) While displaying a 3D model to be measured on a computer display, a position indicating means such as a pointer is provided by an input means such as a mouse to the vicinity of two elements to be measured such as points, ridge lines, and surfaces desired by the user. If the object moves and the distance between the graphic element on the display and the pointer falls within the preset distance, the color of the graphic element displayed on the display is changed and the user confirms the element to be measured. A method of calculating the shortest distance in a three-dimensional space and displaying the calculated shortest distance using separately prepared result display means.
[0007]
(3) While displaying a 3D model to be measured on a computer display, a position indicating means such as a pointer is provided by an input means such as a mouse to the vicinity of two elements to be measured such as points, ridge lines, and surfaces desired by the user. It is the closest to the viewpoint of the 3D space from among the graphic elements that are moved and clipped within the preset distance on the display device at the place determined by the user, that is, displayed on the front side on the display device. A method of calculating the shortest distance in a three-dimensional space and displaying the calculated shortest distance using separately prepared result display means.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, each of these conventional methods has the following problems.
[0013]
The above methods (1), (2), and (3) calculate the shortest distance in a simple three-dimensional space. However, when an operator performs measurement between elements in an apparatus such as 3D CAD, the shortest distance as a result of projecting the element onto a plane designated by the user is often required, and it is impossible to measure the distance. is there.
[0014]
Further, in the method in which the color (display) of the target element is changed as in the methods (2) and (5), it is necessary to enlarge and display a fine part as the number of elements increases. The work efficiency at the time will be reduced.
[0015]
Further, in the methods (1) to (7), when the number of parts displayed on the display increases, the part displayed in the foreground obstructs the field of view, and as a result, the part is displayed as a hidden line. Measurement between elements that are not visible from view is impossible.
[0016]
The present invention has been made to solve the various problems of the prior art as described above, and the minimum distance between the graphic elements projected in the direction required by the user can be obtained without deteriorating the user's work efficiency. It is an object of the present invention to provide a graphic processing apparatus capable of calculating and a method for calculating the shortest distance between graphic elements in the apparatus.
[0017]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a graphic processing apparatus according to the present invention relates to display means for displaying a three-dimensional figure composed of a plurality of graphic elements as a three-dimensional graphic, predetermined calculation, and change of display of the three-dimensional figure on the display means.
