Description
【0001】
前記直交変換の種類としては、DCT(離散コサイン変換)、SVD(特異値展開)、DFT(離散フーリエ変換)、WHT(アダマール変換)、SLT(スラント変換)、あるいはKLT(カルーネンレーブ変換)等が知られており、前記DCTが多用されている。
【0003】
[SVD]=[SV][A][SH]
【0005】
また、前記DCT変換に代え、他の直交変換、例えばDFT(離散フーリエ変換)、WHT(アダマール変換)、SLT(スラント変換)、あるいはKLT(カルーネンレーブ変換)等を用いても良い。
【0022】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an adaptive orthogonal transform coding apparatus and a recording medium, and more particularly to an adaptive orthogonal transform coding apparatus that can compress (encode) a still image signal with high efficiency.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a conventional encoding device such as JPEG, an image is divided into small square blocks, orthogonal transformation is performed on the blocks, and the blocks are expanded into a sum of a plurality of base images orthogonal to each other, and a coefficient for each base image is encoded. Like that. Examples of the orthogonal transform include DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform), SVD (Singular Value Expansion), DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform), WHT (Hadamard Transform), SLT (Slant Transform), and KLT (Kalunen Reeve Transform). The DCT is frequently used.
[0003]
Here, SVD (singular value expansion) encoding with better conversion efficiency than DCT will be described. Now, if the pixel value matrix in the rectangular block of the image is [A], the covariance matrix [C H ] in the horizontal direction is [C H ] = [A] [A] T. Further, the covariance matrix [C v ] in the vertical direction is [C v ] = [A] T [A]. Here, [A] T represents a transposed matrix.
[0004]
Next, a corresponding orthogonal transform (KLT) ([S H ], [S V ]) is obtained from the above covariance matrices [C H ], [C v ]. Then, the pixel value matrix [A] is SVD expanded by the following equation.
[SVD] = [S V ] [A] [S H ]
[0005]
At this time, if the matrix [A] is an N × N matrix, the SVD expansion coefficient [SVD] is also an N × N matrix, and all components other than the diagonal components are zero. This conversion is called SVD, and is an optimal conversion when a rectangular block is expressed by two independent horizontal / vertical orthogonal transforms. That is, the pixel matrix [A] in the rectangular block can be expressed with the smallest number of coefficients. Therefore, efficient encoding can be performed.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when the SVD (singular value expansion) encoding is performed, as information to be encoded / transmitted, in addition to the SVD expansion coefficient [SVD] after quantization, the horizontal / a transform basis vector in the vertical direction [S H], it is necessary to transmit also encoded [S V]. Including such information, there is a problem that it is difficult to achieve high coding efficiency.
[0007]
An object of the present invention is to provide an adaptive orthogonal transform coding apparatus that can solve the above-described problems of the prior art and achieve high coding efficiency.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides means for extracting an even column pixel block and an odd column pixel block of N × N pixels (N is a positive integer) from an input image, and the even column pixel block. DCT encoding means for DCT encoding and outputting one of the odd-numbered pixel blocks, decoding means for decoding the output of the DCT encoding means, and SVD conversion from the N × N pixel data decoded by the decoding means SVD conversion basis calculation means for obtaining a base, and SVD encoding means for performing SVD orthogonal transformation on the other of the even-numbered pixel block and the odd-numbered pixel block using an SVD conversion base, and encoding and outputting the same. There are features.
[0009]
According to this feature, with respect to SVD encoding, it is only necessary to transmit or accumulate data encoded by SVD orthogonal transform, and in other words, the SVD transform base does not need to be transmitted or accumulated. Coding efficiency can be achieved.
[0010]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the configuration of an embodiment of the present invention.

[0014]
The SVD conversion base calculation unit 8 calculates the SVD conversion base of the decoded image signal [AN] as follows. That is, the horizontal covariance matrix [C H ] (= [AN] [AN] T ) of the pixel value matrix [AN] of the image signal output from the inverse DCT unit 7 and the covariance matrix [ C v ] (= [AN] T [AN]) is obtained, and the corresponding orthogonal transform (KLT) ([S H ], [S V ]) is calculated from the covariance matrices [C H ], [C v ]. Ask. Then, horizontal and vertical conversion bases [ SH ] and [ SV ] are output.
[0015]
Next, the SVD orthogonal transform unit 9 performs SVD orthogonal transform on the N × N pixel block output from the odd-numbered pixel
[0016]
In this embodiment, the matrixes [A] and [B] of pixel values output from the even-numbered pixel
[0017]
Therefore, according to the present embodiment, the even column pixel [A] is the DCT transform coefficient after quantization as information to be encoded and transmitted, and the odd column pixel [B] is SVD after quantization. There is a high possibility that there will be only diagonal components of the orthogonal transform coefficient (eight if N = 8). That is, transform basis vector of the horizontal and vertical directions [S H], it is not necessary to transmit by coding [S V]. For this reason, encoding efficiency can be improved compared to the conventional method in which an input image is DCT transformed, quantized, entropy-encoded, and transmitted.
[0018]
When decoding the signal encoded in the present embodiment, first, the encoded data of the even-numbered pixel block [A] sent by DCT conversion is decoded, and the SVD conversion basis is decoded from the decoding result [AN]. [S H], determine the [S V], the SVD transform basis [S H], using [S V], if to decode the SVD transform coefficients of odd column pixel block [B] [CN] Good. This is the a transform basis vector of the encoding apparatus in the horizontal and vertical directions [S H], which is why it is not necessary to transmit by coding [S V]. The odd-numbered pixel block [B] can be decoded by [B] = [S V ] T [CN] [S H ] T.
[0019]
FIG. 3 shows a modification of the present embodiment, in which the 2N × N pixel
[0020]
FIG. 4 shows another modification of the present embodiment. In this modified example, as shown in FIG. 4A, each pixel value in the 0, 1, 2, 3, 4,... Column is changed to X0, X1, X2, X3, X4,. If so, for example, the even-numbered pixel block is formed using an average value with the pixel on the right as shown in FIG. On the other hand, the odd pixel block is formed using the original pixel value. According to this modification, the pixel value difference between the columns in the even-numbered pixel block is smaller than in the case of FIG. 2A, and the encoding efficiency can be further increased. In the case of decoding, for example, if the decoding value of (X0 + X1) / 2 in FIGS. 7B and 7C is a0 and the decoding value of X1 is a1, X0 = 2a0-a1, X1 = a1, and X0 , X1 is uniquely obtained and can be decoded. The same applies to X2, X3, X4,.
[0021]
In the above-described embodiment, the even-numbered pixel block is subjected to DCT conversion and the odd-numbered pixel block is subjected to SVD orthogonal transformation. That is, the odd-numbered pixel block may be DCT transformed and the even-numbered pixel block SVD orthogonal transformed. Further, instead of the DCT transform, other orthogonal transforms such as DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform), WHT (Hadamard Transform), SLT (Slant Transform), or KLT (Kalunen Reeve Transform) may be used.
[0022]
【The invention's effect】
As is apparent from the above description, according to the present invention, transmission of the SVD transform base in the SVD coding is performed by using the orthogonal coding such as DCT coding (excluding SVD coding) and SVD coding together. Alternatively, since the accumulation is unnecessary, the encoding efficiency of the encoding apparatus can be greatly improved.
[0023]
Further, when data encoded according to the present invention is stored in a recording medium, the amount of data is reduced, so that a recording area for recording the data can be reduced.
