Description
【0001】

Δy=Vs×(tm−t0)×tanθ

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an exposure apparatus that scans a surface of a latent image carrier such as a photoreceptor in the main scanning direction and an image forming apparatus equipped with the exposure apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, image forming apparatuses such as printers, copiers, and facsimile machines that perform image formation by scanning a light beam on a latent image carrier such as a photoconductor according to image data are known. In the exposure unit of this image forming apparatus, a light beam modulated based on image data is scanned in the main scanning direction on the surface of a latent image carrier such as a photosensitive member by an optical scanning optical system, and a latent image corresponding to the image data is formed. It is formed on a latent image carrier. Further, after developing the latent image into a toner image, the toner image is transferred to a sheet such as transfer paper, paper, or copy paper. Here, as an optical scanning optical system, one using a polygon mirror as a deflector has been known (Patent Document 1).

[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, it is not possible to completely eliminate the shape error of a deflector such as a polygon mirror or a swing mirror. For example, the polygon mirror has a plurality of deflecting mirror surfaces, and each deflecting mirror surface reflects a light beam. When this deflecting mirror surface is inclined with respect to the rotation center axis of the polygon mirror, So-called troubles occur. As a result, the scanning position of the light beam on the photosensitive member is shifted from the reference scanning position in the sub-scanning direction, and image quality is deteriorated. In the invention described in
[0006]
Here, in order to correct surface tilt, it is an effective measure to arrange a pair of cylindrical lenses having power only in the sub-scanning direction before and after the deflector, as is conventionally known. In other words, with this configuration, the deflection mirror surface and the surface of the photoconductor are in an optically conjugate relationship in the sub-scanning direction, and the imaging position on the photoconductor is the same even if the deflection mirror surface is tilted. It will not change.
[0007]
However, the addition of a cylindrical lens increases the number of parts and increases the device cost. In addition, an increase in the size of the optical scanning optical system is unavoidable due to an increase in optical components, and this is one of the major obstacles to downsizing the image forming apparatus. There is also a problem that optical adjustment becomes complicated.
[0008]
Even if the above-described surface tilt correction is performed, component errors and assembly errors are unavoidable, and sub-scans can be easily performed without reassembling and adjusting the optical scanning optical system at the final adjustment stage after product assembly. It is anxious to match the scanning position of the light beam in the direction to the reference scanning position.
[0009]
Further, during the operation of the image forming apparatus, the scanning environment of the light beam in the sub-scanning direction is changed due to changes in the operating environment such as temperature and humidity, the occurrence of displacement of optical components due to vibrations, and changes over time. In some cases, the position may deviate from the reference scanning position.
[0011]
This invention easily scan position of the light beam in the sub-scanning direction, moreover adjusted to high quality image scanning position of the light beam in the sub-scanning direction by using the exposure means can be adjusted with high precision and purpose thereof is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object , an image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes a latent image carrier, a light source unit for emitting a light beam, an inner movable member having a deflection mirror surface, and an inner movable member around a main scanning deflection axis. An outer movable member that is swingably supported, a support member that swings the outer movable member around a sub-scanning deflection axis different from the main scanning deflection axis, and an inner movable member that is pivoted around the main scanning deflection axis. A mirror driving unit for driving the outer movable member and swinging the outer movable member about the sub-scanning deflection axis, and an exposure unit for scanning the surface of the latent image carrier with a light beam in the main scanning direction; Control means for forming a latent image by irradiating the scanning light beam onto the latent image carrier while adjusting the position of the scanning light beam on the latent image carrier in the sub-scanning direction. The outer movable member is pivotally supported by the support member, The moving member is pivotally supported on the inner side of the outer movable member, and the inner movable member is swung in the resonance mode around the main scanning deflection axis by the mirror driving unit, and the light beam from the light source unit is scanned in the main scanning direction by the deflecting mirror surface. On the other hand, the outer movable member is oscillated and positioned in the non-resonant mode around the sub-scanning deflection axis, and the position of the scanning light beam in the sub-scanning direction is adjusted by the deflection mirror surface. The control means controls the mirror driving unit based on the error in the scanning position of the light beam in the sub-scanning direction generated by the tilt of the deflecting mirror surface, and controls in the sub-scanning direction. The position of the scanning light beam on the latent image carrier is adjusted .
[0013]
In the invention thus configured, the light beam reflected by the deflection mirror surface is not only deflected and scanned in the main scanning direction, but can also be deflected in the sub-scanning direction. That is, when the deflection mirror surface is swung around the sub-scanning deflection axis, the deflection of the scanning light beam in the sub-scanning direction can be controlled according to the swinging operation. Therefore, the scanning position of the light beam in the sub-scanning direction on the latent image carrier can be easily adjusted with high accuracy. For this reason, the deviation of the scanning light beam in the sub-scanning direction is corrected, and a high-quality image can be formed.
[0014]
Here, in order to deflect the scanning light beam in two directions of the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction, for example, a combination of a polygon mirror and a oscillating mirror or a combination of two oscillating mirrors independent of each other is considered. It is done. That is, it is conceivable that one of the two mirrors functions for main scanning and the other functions for sub-scanning. However, when two independent mirrors are provided in this way, an increase in the size of the apparatus and a complicated optical adjustment are inevitable. On the other hand, in the present invention, one deflection mirror surface is configured to be swingable around the main scanning deflection axis and the sub-scanning deflection axis, so that the proposed configuration (polygon mirror + swinging mirror, two independent mirrors) is provided. Compared to a oscillating mirror), the optical adjustment is simple.
[0017]
Further, when to drive the oscillating deflection mirror surface by the mirror driving unit, an inner movable member having a deflection mirror surface in a resonant mode are configured so as to swing driven in the main scanning deflection axis. With this configuration, the deflection mirror surface can be driven to swing around the main scanning deflection axis with less energy. In addition, the main scanning period of the scanning light beam can be stabilized. On the other hand, in order to swing and position the deflection mirror surface about the sub-scanning deflection axis, the outer movable member is driven to swing in the non-resonant mode. This is because the swing driving of the deflection mirror surface about the sub-scanning deflection axis changes the position of the scanning light beam on the latent image carrier in the sub-scanning direction, and then swings the deflection mirror surface about the sub-scanning deflection axis. This is because it is necessary to stop the movement. Therefore, in order to perform the swing drive and swing stop with high accuracy, it is desirable to drive the swing in the non-resonant mode.

Here, an example of the fine adjustment process will be described with reference to FIG. For example, in the final adjustment stage after the product assembly, for each color component, the scanning position SL of the scanning light beam is shifted in the sub-scanning direction Y from the reference scanning position SL0 indicated by the broken line in the figure by the amounts Δyy, Δym, Δyc, Δyk. If a deviation is found, it can be adjusted as follows. That is, if the deviation information of each color component is obtained and stored in the RAM 107 functioning as the “storage unit” of the present invention, the CPU 101 reads out the deviation amount from the RAM 107, and the
[0099]
In the seventh embodiment, the deviation of the scanning light beam with respect to the reference scanning position SL0 is corrected by the fine adjustment function of the
[0100]
Here, an example of registration correction processing in the tandem image forming apparatus will be described with reference to FIG. The correction information necessary for correcting the registration error, for example, the registration control amounts ΔRy, ΔRm, ΔRc, and ΔRk in the figure are obtained before the color image is actually formed, for example, when the power is turned on, and stored in the RAM 107 or the like. Stored in the means. When a color command is formed by giving a print command, the latent image formation position of each color is adjusted in the sub-scanning direction Y based on the registration control amounts ΔRy, ΔRm, ΔRc, ΔRk. That is, for black, the
[0101]
For other toner colors, latent image formation, toner image formation, and transfer operation are performed in the same manner as black, and are superimposed on the
[0102]
In addition, as described above, since the registration shift is corrected by adjusting the scanning positions SLk, SLc, SLm, and SLy of the scanning light beam, each of the photoconductors 2Y, 2M, 2C, and 2K is corrected to correct the registration shift. In addition, it is not necessary to change the rotation speed of the
[0103]
In the seventh embodiment, the present invention is applied to a color image forming apparatus using four color toners, but the application target of the present invention is not limited to this. In other words, the present invention is applicable to all tandem image forming apparatuses using a plurality of colors of toner.
[0104]
C. Others <Eighth Embodiment>
Incidentally, during the operation of the image forming apparatus, the scanning position SL of the scanning light beam in the sub-scanning direction Y may deviate from the reference scanning position SL0 due to a change in the operating environment as described above. Therefore, in order to solve such problems and improve the image quality, for example, a misalignment detector shown in FIG. 22 may be provided to actively correct misalignment of the scanning position SL. The eighth embodiment according to the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG.
[0105]
FIG. 22 is a diagram showing a configuration of a misalignment detector provided in the image forming apparatus according to the present invention. This

In the eighth embodiment, the
(Where Vs is the scanning speed of the light beam),
Based on this, a positional deviation amount Δy in the sub-scanning direction Y is obtained. Further, the fine adjustment mechanism adjusts the position of the scanning light beam in accordance with the positional deviation amount Δy of the scanning position.
[0107]
As described above, according to the eighth embodiment, the

<Ninth Embodiment>
In this type of image forming apparatus, latent image formation, development processing, transfer processing, and the like are controlled based on the vertical synchronization signal Vsync. However, since the scanning timing of the light beam, that is, the horizontal synchronization signal HSYNC is asynchronous with the vertical synchronization signal Vsync, a registration error corresponding to the maximum synchronization error of the vertical synchronization signal and the scanning timing occurs. Therefore, it is desirable to consider the registration error caused by the synchronization error.
[0109]
Therefore, in the ninth embodiment, the difference between the horizontal synchronization signal HSYNC and the vertical synchronization signal Vsync is detected as “information on registration error” of the present invention, and the detection result is read from the storage means such as the RAM 107. In addition to the above, the registration deviation is corrected. Therefore, the registration error can be further reduced, and the image quality can be improved. In addition, excellent response is required to eliminate the registration error caused by the synchronization error, but this requirement can be satisfied by performing active control based on the fine adjustment mechanism, and the image with excellent quality. Can be formed. Here, the
[0110]
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and various modifications other than those described above can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention. For example, the “light source unit” of the present invention is configured by a single

In the above embodiment, the present invention is applied to a color image forming apparatus using four colors of toner, but the application target of the present invention is not limited to this. In other words, the present invention is applicable to all image forming apparatuses that form a color image by superimposing a plurality of color toner images on a transfer medium such as a transfer belt, a transfer sheet, or a transfer drum.
[0112]
In the above embodiment, the description is given using a printer that prints an image included in the print command on a sheet S such as transfer paper or copy paper based on a print command given from an external device such as a host computer. The present invention is not limited to this, and can be applied to all electrophotographic image forming apparatuses including a copying machine and a facsimile apparatus.
