Description
The present invention relates to a method for controlling a solid actuator such as a piezoelectric actuator constituted by a piezoelectric element, an apparatus therefor, and a scanning probe microscope using a solid actuator as a scanner for scanning a sample.
Scanning probe microscopes (SPM) widely use micro displacement actuators made of piezoelectric elements. This minute displacement actuator is used for minute position control of each member, scanning of a probe or sample, and the like. For example, the micro displacement actuator is used in a so-called tube scanner of a cylindrical piezoelectric actuator or a three-axis integrated scanner in which stacked piezoelectric actuators are combined so as to be orthogonal to each other. Among these, the laminated piezoelectric actuator has a single displacement direction, a long stroke, and a wide application range. As a result, the multilayer piezoelectric actuator is particularly effective for use in SPM.
By the way, a multilayer piezoelectric actuator (hereinafter referred to as a piezoelectric element) has a very poor controllability near the resonance point because the attenuation of the piezoelectric material is small. In other words, if the piezoelectric element is controlled with a high gain to expand the frequency band, the possibility of oscillation near the resonance point becomes very high. Further, when the piezoelectric element is displaced suddenly, there is a problem that the vibration of the piezoelectric element itself cannot be easily settled.
The vibration characteristics (gain characteristics and phase characteristics) of the piezoelectric element are obtained by the above formula (1). In general, since the damping ratio γ of the piezoelectric element is as small as about 0.02 to 0.03, it can be seen that a large resonance peak occurs in the vibration characteristics as shown in FIGS. The size of this peak deteriorates controllability.
However, the following three problems arise in the method of increasing the attenuation of the piezoelectric element by adding the mechanical damper made of a high viscoelastic material to the piezoelectric element as described above.
When a mechanical damper is added to the piezoelectric element, the resonance frequency of the piezoelectric element is lowered by the weight of the damper itself.
It is very difficult to set (adjust) the attenuation ratio of the piezoelectric element to a desired value.
Mechanical dampers composed of high viscoelastic materials are subject to severe changes over time. For this reason, the period during which the desired attenuation ratio can be maintained is very short.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY The present invention can provide an actuator control method and apparatus that can increase the attenuation of a solid actuator without adding a mechanical damper, and a scanning probe microscope using the solid actuator as a scanner for scanning a sample.
Hereinafter, a first embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a control block diagram showing a transfer function G ′ (s) of a control block for a piezoelectric actuator (piezoelectric element) composed of a laminated piezoelectric element. The transfer function G ′ (s) of this control block increases the damping ratio γ in order to improve the controllability of the piezoelectric element.
It can be expressed as.
Therefore, if the transfer function G ′ (s) of the control block for the piezoelectric element is configured as shown in FIG. 1, the damping ratio γ can be increased. Furthermore, it can be seen that it is possible to arbitrarily set the damping ratio γ by adjusting the constant T D when the proportional gain K and the differential elements. For example, the vibration characteristics when the damping ratio γ = 1 are shown in FIGS. The figure (a) shows a gain and the figure (b) shows a phase. It can be seen that there are no resonance peaks as shown in FIGS.

The attenuation
The
The
As shown in FIG. 5, the frequency characteristic of the
FIG. 6 shows another configuration example of the
The frequency characteristic of the
Thereby, the
The
The
Then, it is possible to set an arbitrary attenuation ratio γ by adjusting the proportional gain K.
For example, a proportional gain K for obtaining an attenuation ratio γ = 1 is obtained.
Therefore, it can be seen that the proportional gain K at which the attenuation ratio γ = 1 is K = 0.195. The vibration characteristics at this time may have no resonance peak as shown in FIGS. In addition, the figure (a) shows a gain and the figure (b) shows a phase.
As described above, according to the first embodiment, the
Furthermore, it is possible to set an arbitrary attenuation ratio γ by adjusting the proportional gain K in the

FIG. 9 is a specific configuration diagram of a control block of the actuator control device.

Here, the capacitance of the
X=QP・CP・VDVR …(13)

When the drive signal V DRV is applied to the
X = Q P · C P · V DVR (13)
The relationship becomes true.
VQ=(CP/Cs)・VDVR …(14)
VQ=X/Cs …(15)
となる。これにより、反転回路44の出力信号VQ(或いはオペアンプ42の出力信号でもよい)は、圧電素子20の変位を示す。
At this time, the output signal V Q of the inverting
V Q = (C P / Cs) · V DVR (14)
Therefore, according to the above equations (13) and (14), V Q = X / Cs (15)
It becomes. Thus, the output signal V Q of the inverting circuit 44 (or the output signal of the operational amplifier 42) indicates the displacement of the
Therefore, even if the
Next, a third embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. The same parts as those in FIG. 3 are denoted by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof is omitted.
FIG. 11 is a specific configuration diagram of a control block of the actuator control device. In the attenuation
Thus, it is understood that this is equivalent to the transfer function G (s) of the
Then, it is possible to arbitrarily set the attenuation ratio γ by adjusting the proportional gain K.
As described above, also in the third embodiment, the same effects as those of the first embodiment can be obtained with a simple configuration without providing an external sensor.
Next, a fourth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
In the present embodiment, the actuator control device of the first to third embodiments is applied to a scanning probe microscope (SPM). The scanning probe microscope (SPM) is a scanning microscope that acquires information on the surface of a sample by mechanically scanning a mechanical probe. The scanning probe microscope includes a scanning tunneling microscope (STM), an atomic force microscope (AFM), a scanning magnetic force microscope (MFM), a scanning capacitance microscope (SCaM), and a scanning near-field light microscope (SNOM). , And a general term for scanning thermal microscopes (SThM). In this embodiment, an atomic force microscope (AFM) will be described as an example.
FIG. 14 is a configuration diagram of a scanning probe microscope. A
An
The
The

Note that an X control circuit, a Y control circuit, and a Z control circuit 63 (not shown) in the
In such a scanning probe microscope, the
At the same time, the
As described above, according to the fourth embodiment, since the attenuation
Next, a fifth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
In the present embodiment, the actuator control device of the first to third embodiments is applied to a biological scanning probe microscope. Biological scanning probe microscopes are attracting attention as they may be able to observe the movement of living biological samples and the like present in a liquid with higher resolution than optical microscopes. Until now, the optical microscope is the only device that can observe the movement of biological samples. However, an optical microscope cannot observe a biological sample with a resolution below the wavelength of light due to the diffraction limit. In addition, in an electron microscope capable of realizing a high resolution on the order of nanometers, a biological sample or the like cannot be placed in a liquid, and thus a living biological sample in a liquid cannot be observed.
On the other hand, the biological scanning probe microscope can be expected to have a high resolution on the order of nanometers, and enables observation even when a biological sample or the like is present in a liquid. In addition, the biological scanning probe microscope can be combined with an optical microscope and has one of the reasons that attention has been paid to its good affinity.
Such a biological scanning probe microscope often employs a method (AC mode) for detecting an interaction between a sample and a probe from the vibration characteristics of the cantilever. This is because the force acting between the sample and the probe can be kept weak compared to the normal mode.
FIG. 15 is a block diagram of a biological scanning probe microscope. The same parts as those in FIG. 14 are denoted by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof is omitted. A liquid 81 is accommodated in the liquid cell 80. For example, a water-repellent slide glass may be used for the liquid cell 80. A sample 82 such as a living thing is present in the liquid cell 80 containing the liquid 81. The liquid cell 80 is held on a
In the liquid 81, a cantilever 84 provided with a
An
The
In such a living body scanning probe microscope, the
The
At the same time, the
Thus, according to the fifth embodiment, the attenuation ratio γ of the
As described above, in the fourth and fifth embodiments, it is possible to improve the control of the scanning probe microscope with a simple configuration, that is, to increase the control band. When the frequency band of the electric circuit constituting the scanning probe microscope is insufficient, that is, when the delay element of the electric circuit starts to stand out, an element for correcting the delay element of the electric circuit may be added. For example, when the delay element of the electric circuit is 1 / (T n s + 1), the delay of the electric circuit can be compensated by adding the differential element T n s + 1.
Next, a sixth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
In the present embodiment, a modification of the
FIG. 16 is a configuration diagram of the
The
Among these, the
FIG. 17 is a block diagram showing a control block for the Z scanner of the XY scanner and Z scanner. A control block for the XY scanner is omitted. The
In the case of such a scanning probe microscope or a living body scanning probe microscope, the attenuation
As described above, according to the sixth embodiment, the following effects can be obtained by using the attenuation
Since the first Z
The
Further, since the first
Next, a seventh embodiment of the present invention will be described.
FIG. 18 is a block diagram showing a control block for the Z scanner using the attenuation

Next, an eighth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
FIG. 19 is a block diagram showing a control block for the Z scanner using the attenuation

Next, a ninth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
FIG. 20 is a block diagram showing a modified row of control blocks for the Z scanner. 17 identical to those in FIG. 17 are assigned the same reference codes as in FIG.

The second attenuation
The second
The
In such a control block for the Z scanner, the first
In addition, since the driving efficiency (displacement / driving voltage) of the first
As described above, according to the configurations of the XY scanner and the Z scanner in the seventh to ninth embodiments, a scanning probe microscope capable of measuring and observing a sample at high speed and with high accuracy can be realized.
