BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a circuit for driving a light emitting element, and more particularly to a light emitting drive circuit capable of reducing the driving power of an LED (light emitting diode) of a remote commander.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, most electronic devices have a remote control function that can be operated remotely, and it is possible to operate electronic devices from a remote location by light or radio waves output from remote control devices. It has become.
For example, for an electronic device such as a television receiver or a VTR, a device that sends an infrared command signal and enables remote operation of the device is usually attached to most models as a remote commander. .
[0003]
FIG. 6 shows an outline of such a remote commander, 11 is a dry battery supplying power for driving, and 12 is a command signal generating circuit formed inside the remote commander (hereinafter referred to as remote control). Based on the operation of selecting the keys K1... Kn arranged in a button shape, the
A light emission drive circuit is formed by the transistor TR 1 that is on / off controlled by the intermittent signal output from the
[0004]
The base of the transistor T R1 is command code is supplied as the drive pulses through the resistor r 1, transistor T R1 is ON / OFF controlled by this drive pulse. And for the LED 1 to output the infrared is supplied with power supply voltage via a current limiting resistor R, that is, by the light emitting operation of LED1 with the conduction of transistor T R1 is made, the command code is infrared Will be output.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, since the voltage-current characteristic of LED 1 that outputs infrared rays has a threshold voltage Vf as shown in FIG. 7, generally, the light emission operation is performed when the terminal voltage becomes 1.5 V to 1.7 V or more. To do. Therefore, in the remote controller as described above, the power supply voltage (+ V) needs to be set to 3V (for example, two batteries), or 1.5V (that is, one battery) is set as the power supply voltage. In this case, it is necessary to create a voltage higher than the operating voltage of the
Furthermore, since a current limiting resistor R is provided to prevent a current exceeding a predetermined value from flowing through the
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In view of such a problem, the present invention provides a light emission driving circuit that can efficiently drive a load such as an LED at a lower voltage, and therefore,
A system controller that outputs a command code signal that is intermittent at predetermined intervals based on the operation information output from the key operation unit;
A switching element to which the command code signal is supplied to a control input terminal;
A coil connected to a power line as a load of the switching element;
Two infrared light emitting diode elements connected in series so as to be in opposite directions with respect to the polarity of the power supply line, and a light emitting section connected in parallel to the coil;
A connection point between the switching element and the coil and a capacitor connected between the power supply lines are provided.
The driving current at which dW / dI starts to decrease when the driving current flowing through the two infrared light emitting diodes is I and the light emission power is W due to the reverse voltage generated during the OFF period of the switching element. For example, by setting the peak value of the driving continuity of the infrared light emitting diode to be a sawtooth of about 170 mA so that the value becomes (I 2 ), the light emission power (W 2 ) of each infrared diode is determined. ing.
Further, a remote commander comprising a light emission drive circuit in which the capacitance of the capacitor is set so that the switching element is set to zero voltage switching control (ZVS) by the resonance frequency generated by the coil and the capacitor after the drive current becomes zero. It has the characteristics in.
[0007]
With the above configuration, even when the power supply voltage is lower than the operating voltage of at least two LEDs connected in series, the energy stored in the reactance means is used and the current is lower than that of a single LED. In addition to being able to drive efficiently, it is possible to reduce the switching loss by utilizing the resonance phenomenon of the reactance means and to efficiently obtain the operating voltage of the load. Further, even when the battery is near the end of its life and the supply voltage of the battery is lowered, the LED can be driven stably, so that the life of the battery can be extended.
[0008]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
FIG. 1 shows an embodiment in which one embodiment of the light emission drive circuit of the present invention is applied as a light emitting diode (hereinafter referred to as LED) drive circuit in a remote commander.
In this figure,
[0009]
Drive control signal S D output from the system controller 10 is input as described later, it is obtained by modulating the command code signal carrier frequency of approximately 40KH Z, via a resistor r to the base of the transistor T R The
A coil L between the collector and a
The coil L may have a value of about 150 μH, for example, and C is about 10,000 PF.
[0010]
In such a
For example, as shown in FIG. 2A, the drive control signal S D output from the system controller 10 is obtained by intermittently modulating a carrier frequency of 40 KHz and “1” “0” information. As shown in the enlarged view of 2 (b), it is a pulse duty waveform of approximately 1: 1.
The time length of “1” is 1.2 mS, whereas the time length of “0” is 0.6 mS, and the remote control signal conforms to the IrDA standard adapted for data communication using infrared rays. Is set to be sent out.
[0011]
3 by the drive control signal S D is fed to the base of the transistor T R, the current supplied from the
In addition, the current flowing through each element when the transistor is turned from on to off is schematically shown by (a), (b), (c), (d), and (e).
[0012]
In FIG. 3 , when the drive control signal SD becomes a high level at the beginning of the period t1, the transistor TR is turned on, and the collector voltage Vc becomes almost zero potential. In this period, a current iL that sequentially increases from the
In addition, a charging / discharging current slightly flows through the capacitor C at the rising and falling times of the on period t1.
[0013]
Thus, in the period in which the transistor T R is turned on, Yuki electromagnetic energy is accumulated in the coil L, counter electromotive force is generated in the coil L, the transistor T R is at t 2 period is turned off, the transistor T R The collector voltage V C of this rises to a voltage higher than the power supply voltage. And this transistor T R drive current id forward to the LED to flow through counter electromotive voltage when turned off period, the
[0014]
When the back electromotive voltage of the coil L becomes equal to or lower than the threshold voltage of the two light emitting diodes, the drive current id becomes 0, and the collector potential changes in a sine wave shape by the resonance action of the coil L and the capacitor C from this point.
When the capacitance of the capacitor C is adjusted so that the change in the collector voltage due to the resonance frequency is close to 0 potential at the beginning of the next on-period t1, the transistor becomes zero voltage switching control (ZVS). TR switching loss can be reduced.
[0015]
Meanwhile, the base current ib of transistor T R in the light emission drive circuit of the present invention can be compared to a drive circuit for the conventional current limiting resistor R limits the LED current to several tenths.
This is because a transistor loaded with an inductance element is turned on, and the current of the LED is a direct current with a constant peak current during the on period (0.0125 mS). However, since the collector current of the transistor Tr of this drive circuit is a sawtooth current, a slight base current may be required for a while from the ON point. The collector current peaks at the time of inversion from the on period to the off period, but a part of this peak current is supplemented by the capacitor C connected to the collector. That is, since the AC impedance of C is low, the voltage at both ends of the coil L decreases when the transistor Tr has a peak current, and even if the voltage does not reach the saturation region, the peak current is caused to flow through the inductance element by the capacitor C. Can do.
[0016]
Thus transistor T R is turned on again by the drive control signal S D and the current i L in the coil L begin to flow, LEDs 1a by repeating the above operation, 1b drive control shown in FIG. 2 (b) Since the drive control signal S D is modulated as a command code as shown in FIG. 2A, the output of the
[0017]
Although the above embodiment can achieve the same effect even when one LED is used, more efficient light emission can be performed by using two LEDs as described below. .
FIG. 4 shows the relationship between the current value when the light emitting diode is current driven and the light emission power W at that time in more detail .
When the drive current id increases, the light emission power W increases, but the increase amount of the light emission power is a parabolic curve. Therefore, for example, when the light emission power W2 is W1, which is doubled, the drive current id changes from, for example, I2 (170 mA) to I1 (400 mA), and the drive current requires a current value more than doubled. .
[0018]
Therefore, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 of the present invention, two
The optimum value of the drive current id may be the drive current when the differential value (dW / dI) starts to decrease, but the voltage applied to obtain the optimum drive current is the reactance of the coil, the power supply voltage, and Since the threshold voltage of the diode changes as a parameter, the optimum value cannot be easily determined. However, in the case of an infrared light emitting diode, a sawtooth wave with a peak current of around 170 mA is applied to two LEDs connected in series. The required light emission power was obtained with about 1/4 of the conventional power.
[0019]
FIG. 5 shows a modification of the light
In this embodiment and constitutes a series resonant circuit is connected to the ground side of the capacitor C for resonance power supply line.
The driving current id for driving the light emitting diode LED is generated by the electromagnetic energy accumulated in the coil L as in the case of FIG. The resonance current flows through the power supply line, resulting in the same operation as in FIG. 1 in that a parallel resonance circuit is obtained.
[0020]
If a coil is used in place of the base resistance r of the switching transistor TR in the light emission drive circuit of the present invention and the time constant of this coil and the time constant of the drive coil L are matched, the drive control signal SD supplies it. The generated base current waveform is almost the same as the collector current waveform, and a power saving effect can be obtained.
[0021]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the light emission driving circuit of the present invention can efficiently obtain the operating voltage of the load by using the inductive action by the inductance means, and therefore omits the current limiting resistor that limits the LED driving current. By reducing the switching loss of the transistor, there is an advantage that power consumption can be reduced as compared with the conventional technique.
Therefore, when adapting to a remote commander, two LEDs can be used to emit light efficiently, so battery life can be extended and power saving can be achieved with a very simple circuit configuration. There is an effect that can be .
