【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical frequency reference light source used in the fields of optical communication and optical measurement, and more particularly to an optical frequency grid generator for generating frequency reference light at equal intervals on the frequency axis.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As shown in FIG. 6, in optical communication, a plurality of signal lights having different frequencies are generated in channels 0 to n, and these signals are superimposed and transmitted to a trunk system that is a single optical fiber (hereinafter, referred to as wavelength multiplex communication). A WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) method has been developed. The carrier frequencies ν 0 to ν n of the channels 0 to n are respectively recommended by ITU (International Telecommunication Unit), and they are arranged at a frequency separated by an integral multiple of 100 GHz from 193.1 THz as a reference frequency. The frequency accuracy is required to be 1 GHz or less.
[0003]
Each carrier frequency ν 0 to ν n is set so as to satisfy the above requirements, but may be deviated from the set value due to deterioration of the light source, changes in ambient conditions, and the like. It is required to constantly monitor the carrier frequencies ν 0 to ν n . Wavemeters and optical spectrum analyzers are generally used for measuring and monitoring carrier frequencies ν 0 to ν n , but they are very expensive, and it is economical to install them in each channel 0 to n. It is extremely difficult to see.
[0004]
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 6, a part of the multiplexed signal light is branched from the trunk line system, and the optical frequency comb signal output from the optical frequency comb generator and the branched signal light are divided into each channel. The heterodyne detection is performed by combining with each of 0 to n testers, and the frequency of the obtained heterodyne detection signal is measured and monitored by an electric spectrum analyzer, and each carrier frequency ν 0 to ν n is determined based on the measurement result. There is a way to adjust.
[0005]
An optical frequency comb generator is disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-58386, and the outline thereof is as shown in FIG. That is, the optical frequency comb generator includes a phase modulator, an optical resonator, a microwave synthesizer, and a microwave amplifier, and the frequency f m of the modulation signal output from the microwave synthesizer with the oscillation frequency ν 0 of the input light as the center. A large number of sideband waves are generated in a comb shape (comb shape) at every interval. Sideband spacing f m sidebands group generated in this comb shape, since it is stable in high accuracy, can be utilized as an optical frequency grid of the landmarks on the frequency axis. That is, as described above, the frequency reference light for measuring the carrier frequencies ν 0 to ν n of the channels 0 to n can be obtained.
As shown in FIG. 8, the optical frequency grid is a collection of light (frequency positions ν 1 to ν) that are arranged at equal intervals on the frequency axis and whose frequency positions and frequency intervals are stabilized with high accuracy. n + 1 , frequency interval f).
[0006]
Further, the optical frequency marker disclosed in JP-A-62-268172 is replaced with the optical frequency comb generator that outputs the frequency reference light in FIG. There is also a method for measuring and monitoring carrier frequencies ν 0 to ν n of channels 0 to n . As shown in FIG. 7 (b), the invention of the optical frequency marker transmits light from a light source having a continuous spectrum to the Fabry-Perot resonator, thereby having the same shape as the transmission profile of the Fabry-Perot resonator. It outputs light with a spectrum. In other words, it is possible to generate a collection of light (optical frequency grid) aligned in the free spectral range interval of the Fabry-Perot resonator.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the method using the above-described optical frequency comb generator, the optical frequency comb generator itself requires an expensive microwave synthesizer or microwave amplifier and is economically problematic, and the sideband intensity is of the order. However, there is a problem that the generation range is usually about 1 to 2 THz and too narrow.
Further, in the method using the optical frequency marker in place of the optical frequency comb generator described above, since the resonant frequency of the Fabry-Perot resonator is not controlled, the frequency position of the optical frequency grid and the frequency accuracy of the frequency interval are high. It was not enough.
An object of the present invention is to provide an optical frequency grid generator capable of generating a low-cost and high-accuracy frequency grid in view of the conventional problems as described above.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, an optical frequency grid generator of the present invention has a white light source that generates white light, and has a spectral component that has the same shape as its own transmission profile upon receiving light from the white light source. An optical frequency grid is generated on the frequency axis at a constant period, and the frequency position of the transmission profile is variable by an external signal, and the transmission profile of the periodic filter output from the periodic filter is the same shape A branching device for branching a part of an optical frequency grid having a spectral component of: a frequency reference light source comprising a laser diode that outputs a frequency reference light, the oscillation frequency of which is controlled, and the branching device A part of the optical frequency grid branched by the frequency reference light output from the frequency reference light source. A wave combiner, a light receiver that converts a heterodyne signal between a portion of the optical frequency grid output from the multiplexer and the frequency reference light into an electrical signal, and outputs the signal as a heterodyne detection signal, and the light receiving device. Negative feedback that receives the heterodyne detection signal from a detector, detects a signal depending on the phase or frequency of the heterodyne detection signal, generates the external signal based on the detected signal, and feeds it back to the periodic filter Circuit.
[0009]
That is, the optical frequency grid generator of the present invention generates light having the same shape as the transmission profile of the periodic filter as an optical frequency grid by inputting white light into the periodic filter having a periodic transmission profile. The frequency reference light from a frequency reference light source composed of a part of the generated optical frequency grid and a laser diode and controlled in oscillation frequency is combined to perform heterodyne detection, and the phase of the difference frequency between them is detected. Alternatively, the frequency is detected and negatively fed back to the periodic filter to synchronize the frequency of the optical frequency grid with the frequency of the frequency reference light source. As a result, the frequency of each optical frequency grid is synchronized with the frequency of the frequency reference light source, and can have the same frequency stability and frequency accuracy as the frequency reference light source.

【The invention's effect】
The optical frequency grid generator of the present invention generates an optical frequency grid by combining a white light source and a periodic filter, and further includes a frequency reference light from a frequency reference light source composed of a laser diode and the optical frequency grid. By applying negative feedback to the periodic filter based on the heterodyne detection signal obtained by heterodyne detection, the frequency of each optical frequency grid is synchronized with the frequency of the frequency reference light source, thereby improving stability. An accurate optical frequency grid could be generated. Since the optical frequency grid generator of the present invention is configured as described above, it has been possible to reduce the price. Therefore, by using the optical frequency grid generator of the present invention, the carrier frequency of each channel can be measured and monitored economically and with high accuracy in the WDM system.
