離型性や耐久性を考慮すると、定着ローラ21の離型層は、特にフッ素樹脂が好ましく、PFA(パーフルオロアルキルビニールエーテル共重合樹脂)、PTFE(ポリテトラフフルオロエチレン)、FEP(四フッ化エチレン六フッ化プロピレン共重合樹脂)等のフッ素樹脂が使用できる。
【0108】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present inventionFixing deviceAbout.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Image forming apparatuses such as copying machines, printers, and facsimiles have a process of forming an image on a heated body as a heated body such as plain paper or OHP paper. In this image forming apparatus, various image forming methods are realized. Among them, the electrophotographic method is widely adopted because of its high speed, image quality, cost, and the like.
In the electrophotographic system, an unfixed toner image is formed on a heated body such as plain paper or OHP paper, and the unfixed toner image on the heated body is fixed with heat and pressure by a fixing device. There is a fixing process. As the fixing device, the heat roller method is currently most frequently used from the viewpoint of high speed and safety.
[0003]
A heat roller type fixing device is a heat roller heated by a heat generating member such as a halogen heater and a pressure roller disposed opposite to the heat roller to form a mutual pressure contact portion called a nip portion. In this method, the heated body is passed between the heating roller and the pressure roller, and the unfixed toner image on the heated body is fixed by heat and pressure.
[0004]
In a heat roller type fixing device, when a core resin of a heating roller is coated with a fluorine resin as a release layer, the material of the fluorine resin is hard, so that the image quality problem described below occurs. The toner image on the object to be heated is microscopically uneven, and if the surface of the heating roller is hard, it cannot follow it, and the microscopic adhesion to the surface of the heating roller is reduced. For this reason, in the toner image after fixing on the heated body, fine gloss unevenness occurs in the solid portion between the portion where the heating roller contacts and the portion where the heating roller does not contact.
[0005]
In a black-and-white copying machine, the image quality requirement is not so high as compared with a full-color copying machine, and therefore, the heating roller of the fixing device is sufficient to cover the core metal as described above with a fluorine resin. However, as the speed of the apparatus has increased, the demand for higher image quality has increased as it has been expanded into the printing area.
[0006]
On the other hand, in a full-color copying machine, the demand for higher image quality is much greater than in a monochrome copying machine. By coating the core of the heating roller with an elastic layer (heat-resistant rubber) so that the glossiness of the toner image does not easily occur, the surface of the heating roller and the toner layer on the object to be heated are stretched by the elasticity of the rubber of the heating roller. In order to obtain fixed images with excellent image quality without uneven gloss, this technology has been developed for black and white copying machines.
[0007]
The heating roller mainly uses a roller whose core is made of metal such as iron or aluminum, and has a large heat capacity. For this reason, the heat roller method has a drawback that a long rise time of several minutes to several tens of minutes is required to raise the temperature to about 180 ° C., which is a usable temperature at the time of use.
[0008]
Therefore, in the image forming apparatus, even when the user is not performing image formation, power is supplied to the heating roller to keep the temperature of the heating roller at a preheating temperature slightly lower than the usable temperature, so that it can be used immediately during use. The temperature rises up. This is to prevent the user from waiting for the temperature of the heating roller to rise, and extra energy that is unnecessary for image formation is consumed even when the image forming apparatus is not used. There is a survey result that the energy consumption during standby is about 70 to 80% of the energy consumption of the entire image forming apparatus.
[0009]
In recent years, energy conservation regulations have been enacted in each country due to increased awareness of environmental protection. In Japan, the Energy Conservation Law has been revised and strengthened, and energy conservation programs such as Energy Star and ZESM (Zero Energy Star Mode) have been established in the United States. When trying to save power to comply with these regulations and programs, reducing the standby energy consumption, which has a large proportion of the energy consumption of the entire image forming apparatus, has a large effect on power saving. It is desirable that the power supply to the heating roller be zero when not in use.
However, if the power supplied to the heating roller during standby is set to zero in the conventional fixing device, the heating roller takes a long time to be reused, so that the waiting time becomes long and user convenience deteriorates. For this reason, a configuration for quickly increasing the temperature of the heating roller is required to realize an energy-saving image forming apparatus. For example, in the ZESM, 10 seconds or less is required for restarting.
[0010]
In order to shorten the heating time of the heating roller, it is effective to reduce the heat capacity of the entire fixing device including the pressure roller. Therefore, a combination of a fixing roller including an elastic layer, a pressure belt in which a nip portion through which a heated body passes is formed between the fixing roller, and a pressure member disposed inside the pressure belt Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 11-133776 discloses a fixing device that satisfies high image quality, high speed, energy saving, and long life.
[0011]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-92281 is intended to satisfy high image quality, energy saving, and long life, and fixing a toner image on a transfer material to the transfer material by heating and pressing. In the apparatus, a film-like rotating member provided with a fixed heating element inscribed therein, and a heat-ray irradiating member that emits heat rays, provided opposite to the film-like rotating member, are translucent to the heat rays. A cylindrical light-transmitting substrate, a light-transmitting elastic layer outside the light-transmitting substrate, and a heat ray absorbing layer that absorbs the heat rays outside the light-transmitting elastic layer A fixing device comprising a rotating member for heat ray fixing is described.
[0012]
In order to shorten the heating time of the heating roller, it is preferable to increase the input energy per unit time for the heat generating member that heats the heating roller, that is, the rated power. In fact, some high-speed image forming apparatuses having a high image forming speed have a power supply voltage of 200 V and a heating roller heating time is shortened. However, in general offices in Japan, the power supply is generally 100V15A and the upper limit is 1500W, and it is necessary to perform special work on the power supply-related part of the image forming apparatus installation location to cope with the power supply voltage of 200V. Yes, this is not a general solution for shortening the heating time of the heating roller.
[0013]
In addition, an image forming apparatus that uses two systems of a 100V15A commercial power source to increase the total input power to the heat generating member of the fixing device has been put into practical use. However, this image forming apparatus has a problem that it cannot be installed unless there are two outlets nearby.
Furthermore, safety is a problem when the power supplied to the heat generating member of the fixing device is simply increased. Although the temperature of the heating roller rapidly rises by applying a large amount of power to the heat generating member, the risk of ignition is greatly increased when the system runs away and control of the power supplied to the heat generating member becomes impossible. This is because if the temperature of the heating roller is too high, the temperature of the heating roller exceeds the ignition point temperature of the paper before a safety device such as a thermal fuse or a thermostat is activated.
As described above, until now, even if it is attempted to raise the temperature of the heating roller in a short time, the upper limit of the input energy has not been raised.
[0014]
In order to realize energy saving by increasing the maximum power supply to the heat generating member, it is proposed to use the auxiliary power supply to supply power from the auxiliary power source to the heat generating member, and use a secondary battery as a chargeable auxiliary power source. It has been proposed. Representative secondary batteries include lead-acid batteries and CADNICA batteries.
However, since the secondary battery takes time to charge and takes several hours to fully charge, it cannot be used many times a day.
[0015]
In addition, the secondary battery has a property that it deteriorates when it is repeatedly charged and discharged many times and its capacity decreases, and the life is shortened as it is discharged with a large current. Even in a CADNICA battery, which is generally considered to have a long life with a large current, the number of charge / discharge cycles is about 500 to 1000 times, and if the charge / discharge cycle is repeated 20 times a day, the lifetime will be reached in about one month. . In this case, it takes time to replace the battery, and the running cost such as the battery cost is very high. In addition, since the secondary battery takes a long time to charge, it is necessary to take it out of the apparatus and charge it when it is charged at night. Further, the secondary battery is discharged little by little, and it is difficult to take out a large amount of power in a short time. Further, if the secondary battery is continuously charged when it is not necessary to discharge, gas is generated and causes a failure, which is not safe. Furthermore, lead acid batteries are not preferred as office equipment, such as using liquid sulfuric acid. Due to these problems, it has been difficult to practically supply power from the secondary battery to the heat generating member.
[0016]
In order to solve such drawbacks of the secondary battery, a fixing device using a large capacity capacitor such as an electric double layer capacitor as an auxiliary power source has been proposed. A large-capacity capacitor has almost unlimited number of charge / discharge cycles, almost no deterioration in charge characteristics, and does not require regular maintenance. Further, a battery that is a secondary battery also requires several hours, whereas a large-capacity capacitor has a feature that it can be set to several seconds to several tens of seconds. In addition, since the electric double layer capacitor can flow a large current of several tens of amperes to several hundreds of amperes, power can be supplied in a short time. In addition, the large-capacity capacitor is safe without generating gas even if it continues to be charged. Furthermore, the electric double layer capacitor is highly safe because the holding power is lowered and the voltage is lowered and the supplied power can be automatically reduced when discharged for a predetermined time.
When such a large-capacity capacitor is used as an auxiliary power source, it is possible to supply power exceeding the power limit of the commercial power source to the fixing device in a short time from several seconds to several tens of seconds when the fixing device starts up. Further, since the large-capacity capacitor uses up the held power in a short time, the supplied power is reduced after a predetermined time from the start of discharge, and the temperature rise of the heating roller is small and a safe configuration can be realized. For this reason, it is possible to increase the reliability, durability and safety by realizing a fixing device with a short rise time.
[0017]
Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 5-232839 has an auxiliary power supply in addition to the main power supply, and this auxiliary power supply does not increase power to a heater for heating the fixing roller, but supplies power to a heating element of another system. A heating device is described.
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 10-10913 discloses an energy-saving fixing device using an auxiliary power supply in addition to a main power supply. In this fixing device, the secondary battery as the auxiliary power source supplies two levels of power from a single power source, and is not intended to increase the maximum power supply from the power supplied only by the main power source. Absent.
[0018]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 10-282821 discloses an image forming apparatus having various functions using an auxiliary power source such as a secondary battery or a primary battery in addition to a main power source.
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-315567 describes a heating device using a large-capacity capacitor as an auxiliary power supply in addition to a main power supply. According to this heating device, the startup time can be shortened by assisting the commercial power source with the auxiliary power source at the time of startup, thereby saving energy.
[0019]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-075737 discloses that in an image forming apparatus equipped with a commercial power source and a storage battery, the productivity is lowered during charging of the storage battery, the storage battery loading determining means for determining the loading of the storage battery, and the charging capacity of the storage battery are monitored. And charging capacity monitoring means for reducing the productivity based on the determination result of the storage battery loading determination means and the monitoring result of the charge capacity monitoring means. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-075737 describes that a storage battery is used and the charging time is long, so that the storage battery is charged externally or at night.
[0020]
As a fixing method for realizing a short-time temperature increase in an image forming apparatus, there is a configuration in which a heat-resistant resin film is wound around a plate-shaped ceramic heater. Since the heat capacity of the ceramic heater is reduced, the rise time can be shortened, and it has been put to practical use in a low-speed image forming apparatus of 30 sheets / min or less.
[0021]
However, it is necessary to increase the thickness of the film to prevent breakage in order to cope with higher-speed image forming apparatuses in the future. As a problem in this case, if the temperature of the film is not raised before the film enters the nip, the resin has a lower thermal conductivity than the metal and heat cannot be sufficiently transferred to the heated object in the nip. It becomes necessary to heat from the upstream part before entering the nip part. For this reason, the area of the plate-like portion of the heater is increased, and a high power source is required as a power source for supplying power to the heater in order to perform a rapid temperature increase.
[0022]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the fixing device and the heating device using the above-described large-capacity capacitor as an auxiliary power source, the following problems are currently clarified.
In order to shorten the start-up time, it is necessary to reduce the heat capacity of the fixing roller (heating roller) and supply power to the fixing roller with high power. In order to obtain a large amount of power from the auxiliary power source, it is desirable to use an auxiliary power source having a voltage higher than that of a large current in consideration of wiring and circuit loads.
[0023]
However, when using an auxiliary power source using a large-capacity capacitor (large-capacity capacitor) while controlling the fixing roller temperature by turning on / off the power supply, a large amount of power is supplied to the heater as a heating element at once. As shown in FIG. 4, the temperature of the fixing roller is likely to fluctuate greatly. For this reason, when the temperature of the fixing roller changes in the middle of the image on the heated body, there is a problem that the image quality is uneven and the image quality is deteriorated.
[0024]
In addition, when the core of the heating roller is coated with an elastic layer (heat-resistant rubber) as described above, gloss unevenness is less likely to occur and high image quality can be achieved, but the elastic layer has poor thermal conductivity. When the paper is continuously fed, the surface temperature of the heating roller is lowered to cause fixing failure. In order to avoid this fixing failure, in some image forming apparatuses, fixing performance is ensured by reducing the process speed when the surface temperature of the heating roller falls below a certain temperature. The poor thermal conductivity of the elastic layer hinders speeding up.
[0025]
In addition, in order to use up the electric power held by the large-capacity capacitor with a start-up time of several seconds to several tens of seconds, it is necessary to take out a large electric power from the large-capacity capacitor. Since power = voltage × current, it is possible to obtain large power from the large-capacity capacitor by increasing the output voltage of the large-capacity capacitor or increasing the output current of the large-capacity capacitor.
[0026]
However, the halogen heater usually used for heating the heating roller has an upper limit of about 10A to 12A at the maximum current, and it is difficult to increase the maximum current. This is because the life of the halogen heater is shortened when a large current is supplied to the halogen heater. Therefore, in order to supply a large amount of power to the halogen heater using the halogen heater as a heat generating member, it is necessary to adopt a configuration using a power source having a large output voltage as a power supply source for supplying power to the halogen heater.
[0027]
However, a large-capacity capacitor originally has a low voltage per cell of about several volts. This is to prevent the solution inside the cell of the large-capacity capacitor from being electrolyzed, and is about 1 volt for water and about 3 volt for organic. For this reason, in order to perform heating using a conventionally used halogen heater as a heating member, a high voltage of about 50 to 100 V is applied to a halogen heater in which dozens to dozens of large-capacity capacitor cells are connected in series. It is necessary to use it as a power supply unit that supplies power.
[0028]
However, when a high-voltage power supply unit is installed inside the apparatus, there are the following problems. When performing maintenance and inspection of the apparatus, the inside of the apparatus is often accessed, but the power terminal is unintentionally touched during work, and an electric shock may occur. Further, it is conceivable that the user also puts his / her hand inside the apparatus for handling a paper jam or the like, and measures for preventing an electric shock are also necessary for this.
[0029]
In addition, the storage capacity of one capacitor cell of a large-capacity capacitor has become sufficiently large. In a configuration in which many capacitor cells are connected in series to obtain high voltage and high power, only a few capacitor cells are heated. Enough energy may be obtained to raise body temperature. However, in the past, it was necessary to increase the number of capacitor cells in order to increase the voltage of the large-capacitance capacitor, so to speak, it was necessary to prepare a capacitor cell with an extra capacity as a power supply unit configuration. However, at present, a large-capacity capacitor has a low energy density, a large volume, and a high cost. Therefore, it is indispensable to reduce the number of capacitor cells.
[0030]
That is, in the configuration in which the halogen heater is used as the heat generating member, it is necessary to use an extra capacitor cell in terms of energy in order to increase the supply voltage to the halogen heater. There was a problem of becoming high.
[0031]
Another important issue is temperature overshoot. Currently, the fixing roller uses a thermistor for temperature detection. Although the thermistor has become considerably smaller and the reaction speed has improved, in a configuration where the amount of power supplied to the halogen heater is large and the temperature rise time is short, the thermistor temperature detection is delayed and the temperature overshoots higher than the predetermined value. The issue of becoming easier has emerged.
[0032]
The present invention has been made to solve the above problems, can reduce temperature fluctuations, can use as much of the capacitor's holding energy as possible, can increase the temperature quickly, can shorten the rise time, It is possible to achieve both high image quality and high speed, and improve the separation between the heating unit and the toner image.Fixing deviceThe purpose is to provide.

The
(1) The charging time is short. :
With an auxiliary power source using a general nickel-cadmium battery as a secondary battery, even if quick charging is performed, it takes several hours to charge, so the number of times that a large amount of power can be supplied per day is only several times every few hours. It could not be realized and was not practical. In contrast, an auxiliary power source using a capacitor can be rapidly charged for several tens of seconds to several minutes, so that the number of times of heating using the auxiliary power source can be increased to a practical number. Because of this, the bookreferenceWhen the capacitor is used as an auxiliary power source as in the embodiment, the number of times of heating of the fixing roller using the auxiliary power source within the same time is smaller than when a general nickel-cadmium battery is used as the auxiliary power source. Increase.
(2) Long life. :
Since the nickel-cadmium battery has 500 to 1000 charge / discharge cycles, it has a short life as an auxiliary heating power source, and there is a problem in labor and cost of replacement. On the other hand, an auxiliary power source using a capacitor has a permanent life of 10,000 times or more and little deterioration due to repeated charging and discharging. Therefore, it is particularly advantageous for a heating apparatus or an image forming apparatus that repeats a non-heating operation (standby) and a heating operation. Also, unlike lead-acid batteries, there is no need for liquid replacement or replenishment, so little maintenance is required.
(3) High safety. :
The secondary battery uses a chemical reaction, so if it does not need to be discharged after being charged to its maximum capacity, the container expands and bursts due to the gas from the chemical reaction, etc., if connected to the charging circuit. There is a danger of. On the other hand, the auxiliary power source using a capacitor uses a physical phenomenon rather than a chemical reaction, and thus is safe with no generation of gas.
[0078]
In recent years, capacitors that can store a large amount of electric energy have been developed, and the use of capacitors in electric vehicles and the like is also being studied. For example, an electric double layer capacitor developed by Nippon Chemi-Con Co., Ltd. has a capacitance of about 2000 F, and has a capacity sufficient for supplying power for several seconds to several tens of seconds. Further, NEC has realized a capacitor of about 80 F under the trade name of hypercapacitor, and this capacitor can supply a current of about 10 A for a time of about several tens of seconds.

[0142]
For example, a heating roller that can be raised to a predetermined temperature in 30 seconds will be described. When an iron fixing roller having a diameter of 50 mm and a wall thickness of 0.7 mm is used as a conventional heating roller, 1200 w which is usually used as a heating member in a conventional fixing device to raise the temperature of the heating roller to a predetermined temperature of about 180 ° C. With this halogen heater, the temperature of the heating roller could be raised in about 30 seconds.
[0143]
In addition, an example will be described in which an electric double layer capacitor as an auxiliary power supply is charged to a high voltage and a heat generating member whose supply current is limited to 12 A is used. Halogen heaters are limited in maximum current. For this reason, when the electric double layer capacitor is charged to 50 V, 12 A × 50 V, that is, 600 w of electric power can be extracted from the electric double layer capacitor. When 600 W of auxiliary power is supplied to the halogen heater simultaneously with 1200 W of the commercial power supply, 1800 W of power is supplied to the halogen heater, and the heating time of the heating roller, which was 30 seconds in the past, is about 30 seconds. It was shortened to 20 seconds.
[0144]
However, when a plurality of capacitor cells that can be charged to 2.5 V are connected in series and charged to 50 V to be used for power supply to the halogen heater, there is an electrical safety problem. That is, since the image forming apparatus has a high-voltage power supply of about 50 V, when a user or a maintenance worker accesses the inside of the apparatus, an electric shock is caused when the high potential terminal is touched. There is a risk that.
[0145]
According to the “Electrician Textbook” published by the NEC Corporation, DC power supplies such as capacitors “slightly” with an electric shock of about 3.5 mA and “pain” with an electric shock of about 6 mA. It is said that there is a “shock without accompanying”. Since human resistance is 5 to 10 kΩ, it is said that humans may receive electric shock at 18 to 35 V and 30 to 60 V, respectively, due to the above-mentioned electric shock. For this reason, when 20 capacitor cells that can be charged to 2.5 V with the above configuration are connected in series and charged to 50 V, the capacitor charged to 50 V is an electric shock to the user who touches it by mistake. You will be shocked.

Book like thisreferenceForm8According to the above, by reducing the output voltage of the auxiliary power source to a voltage that does not cause an electric shock even if it is accidentally touched by a person, electric shock can be prevented and safety is high. Further, it is possible to automatically detect the worker's access to the inside of the apparatus and forcibly reduce the voltage, and to realize a safe heating apparatus with little risk of electric shock. Furthermore, at 200 V or less, direct current is less likely to flow through the human body than alternating current, and is about four times safer, so that an auxiliary power source with higher safety can be realized while having the same power supply performance at the same voltage. Can do.
[0217]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the temperature fluctuation of the heating unit can be reduced, and the retained energy of the capacitor can be utilized as much as possible. Further, the temperature fluctuation can be reduced and the rise time can be shortened. Further, the temperature rise can be accelerated and the temperature fluctuation can be reduced. Further, high image quality can be ensured, and both high image quality and high speed can be achieved. In addition, the separation between the heating unit and the toner image can be improved. In addition, image unevenness can be eliminated and output quality can be improved.
