Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is used as a probe pin and socket pins or the like, a method of manufacturing a contact probe which contacts the respective terminal such as a semiconductor IC chip and liquid crystal devices for electrical testing.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In general, contact pins are used to perform an electrical test by contacting each terminal of a semiconductor chip such as an IC chip or LSI chip or an LCD (liquid crystal device).
In recent years, with the high integration and miniaturization of IC chips and the like, the pitch of contact pads, which are electrodes, has been reduced, and there has been a demand for a narrower pitch of contact pins. However, with a tungsten needle contact probe used as a contact pin, it is difficult to cope with a narrow multi-pin pitch due to the limit of the diameter of the tungsten needle.
[0003]
On the other hand, for example, in Japanese Patent Publication No. 7-82027, a plurality of pattern wirings are formed on a resin film, and respective tip portions of these pattern wirings are arranged in a protruding state from the resin film to form contact pins. Technology has been proposed. In this technical example, the multi-pin pitch is narrowed by using the tip portions of a plurality of pattern wirings as contact pins.
[0004]
As shown in FIG. 8, the conventional contact probe 1 has a structure in which a
The contact probe 1 brings a contact portion 3a provided on the rear end side of the
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the following problems remain in the conventional contact probe technology. That is, the increase in pinching pitch and the increase in the number of pins have progressed, and the ratio of the pinching pitch portion of the pattern wiring has increased, and there has been a risk that the yield will decrease due to this. In addition, when a thin pattern wiring has to be arranged long like a contact probe having the above three contact portions, it is difficult to route the pattern wiring, and the wiring resistance increases and the amount of heat generation increases. was there.
[0006]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-object to provide a method of manufacturing a contact probe capable of increasing the routing of freedom as well as a possible reduction of the area of the narrow pitch portion of the pattern wiring And
[0010]
The contact probe manufacturing method of the present invention includes a film body provided with a plurality of contact portions for contacting another substrate, an insulating layer provided to cover a part of the film body, and the film body or Pattern wiring deposited on the surface of the insulating layer, and the pattern wiring is deposited on the surface of the film body, one end is a contact pin, and the other end is one of the contact portions. The first wiring to be connected, the short part whose one end is connected to the contact pin, and the short part is connected to the surface of the insulating layer, and the other end is attached to the insulating layer and the film body. A second portion having a long portion connected to any other portion of the contact portion at the boundary portion, and the first wire and the long portion of the second wire are the insulating portions. Against layer The insulating layers are arranged in the vicinity of the contact pin arrangement position and in the vicinity of a part of the contact portion, and the long part of the second wiring is This is a method for manufacturing a contact probe that is connected in the vicinity of the contact pin arrangement position in the insulating layer and in the vicinity of a part of the contact portion.
A first metal layer forming step of forming on the substrate layer a first metal layer made of a material that adheres to or is bonded to a material of a short portion of the first wiring and the second wiring; A first mask is formed on the metal layer, and a second metal layer to be used for a short portion of the first wiring and the second wiring is formed by plating on the unmasked portion. A plating process, an insulating layer forming step of forming the insulating layer on the second metal layer excluding at least a portion connected to the connection forming portion, and the connecting portion of the second metal layer. A third metal layer forming step of forming a third metal layer of a material to be attached to or bonded to a material of a long portion of the second wiring on the connected portion and the insulating layer; A second mask is applied on the metal layer, and the second wiring is formed on the unmasked portion. A second plating process for forming a fourth metal layer to be provided in a long portion by plating; and the fourth metal layer from which the second mask is removed and the second metal layer are covered. A film deposition process for depositing the film body, and a separation process for separating a part from the second metal layer to the film body and a part composed of the substrate layer and the first metal layer. It is characterized by.
[0011]
In this contact probe manufacturing method, in the third metal layer forming step, the material of the long part of the second wiring is deposited or bonded on the part connected to the connection part of the second metal layer and on the insulating layer. In the second plating process, a second mask is formed on the third metal layer, and the second mask is provided with a long portion of the second wiring in an unmasked portion. Since the fourth metal layer is formed by plating, a long portion of the second wiring can be laminated on the first wiring with high accuracy via the insulating layer.
In the contact probe manufactured in this way, the first wiring and the long part of the second wiring among the pattern wirings are arranged on the opposite sides with respect to the insulating layer. That is, by arranging the pattern wirings in two layers, the wiring restrictions are reduced, the sandwich pitch area can be reduced, and the degree of freedom of wiring can be remarkably improved.
Further, in this contact probe, the insulating layer is arranged in the vicinity of the contact pin arrangement position and in the vicinity of a part of the contact portion, and the long part of the second wiring is formed in the insulating layer. It is characterized in that it is formed in the vicinity of the contact pin arrangement position and in the vicinity of a part of the contact portion. In other words, the contact probe has a wide insulating layer region, so that the pinch pitch region can be greatly reduced, and the long wiring space of the second wiring in the insulating layer can be secured to the maximum. become.
[0012]
In the contact probe manufacturing method of the present invention, it is preferable that the first mask is left at least in a region where the insulating layer is formed in the first plating process. In other words, in this contact probe manufacturing method, at least the first mask is left in the formation region of the insulating layer, so that a formation region with small unevenness and good flatness is obtained, and the insulating layer and the second wiring are formed. It becomes easy.
