BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a facsimile machine, or a printer, and more particularly to an electrophotographic image forming apparatus that develops an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier by attaching toner with a developing device. .
[0002]
[Prior art and problems to be solved by the invention]
A system in which a color separation light image is exposed to a latent image carrier, each formed latent image is developed with a complementary color toner of color separation light, and a plurality of toner images obtained are superimposed and transferred on the same transfer paper Image forming apparatuses such as full-color copiers, and images to be reproduced in different colors are separately exposed on a latent image carrier and developed with different color developers, and the resulting toner images are transferred to the same transfer paper. A multicolor image forming apparatus that transfers images superimposed on each other is known. These image forming apparatuses require a plurality of developing units. However, if each developing unit is configured independently and arranged in the vicinity of the latent image carrier, the apparatus becomes large.
[0003]
Therefore, a rotating body is provided so as to be close to the latent image carrier, and a plurality of developing units are supported on the rotating body at predetermined positions, and each developing unit is sequentially rotated and conveyed to the developing area. There has been developed a rotary developing device that develops a latent image on a latent image carrier with each color toner.
[0004]
By the way, in the developing unit, when the contained developer is consumed and becomes a predetermined amount or less, an abnormal image is generated due to insufficient image density. For this reason, it is necessary to monitor the remaining amount of the developer in the developing unit. The remaining amount of developer in the developing unit is configured in the vicinity of the developing device, for example, using an optical detection means, and determining the presence or absence of the developer based on the light transmission state.
[0005]
For example, as described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-221767 and Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-221768, a configuration in which the remaining amount of developer in the developing unit is reduced as much as possible and the amount of developer is accurately detected is described. Developer amount detecting means provided with a cleaning member for reducing contamination on the light transmission surface of the optical detecting means, and an image forming apparatus using the developer amount detecting means have been developed.
[0006]
By the way, in the above-described apparatus, the developer remaining amount detecting light transmitting surface and the cleaning unit are in an initial state where the developer is filled up to the time when the developer amount is changed below the predetermined amount (or when the developer is replenished). Since the cleaning member was constantly moved, the developer adhered to the light transmission surface due to the sliding of the detection light transmission surface and the cleaning member, and the transmission surface was damaged, resulting in a decrease in the amount of transmitted light. The developer adheres to the supporting shaft of the cleaning means and the sliding portion of the support column supporting the cleaning means, causing a swinging operation failure due to an increase in sliding resistance, and the remaining amount when the developer falls below a predetermined amount. This is a factor causing quantity detection failure.
[0007]
In addition, granular developer aggregates and the like are generated at the sliding portion, and when this moves to the developing portion, it causes damage to the developing main part roller, abnormal images such as white streaks and dot missing. It was.
[0008]
The present invention has been made in the above background, and claims 12According to the invention, the movement of the cleaning means is restricted when the developer is in a predetermined amount or more in the vicinity of the detection unit.To doThus, the object is to limit the sliding of the sliding portion when cleaning is not necessary, and to reduce various problems occurring in the sliding portion.
[0011]
AlsoClaim3In the invention of the item, the weight portion of the cleaning means is formed in a shape extending in parallel with the support shaft, so that movement can be easily restricted and the weight of the developer portion is reduced by increasing the weight of the weight portion. The purpose is to ensure the movement of the cleaning means at the time.
[0012]
And claims4, 5The object of the invention is to make the toner end of each color developing unit accurately recognized in the color image forming apparatus.
[0013]
