Description
【0001】

[Technical field to which the invention belongs]
The present invention relates to a charging device for charging a secondary battery such as a nickel-cadmium battery or a nickel metal hydride battery.

[Patent Document 2]
JP 2000-31440 A
When charging nickel cadmium batteries or nickel metal hydride batteries used for power supplies such as cordless tools, charging with a large current can be done in a short time, but the battery heat generation during charging also increases, and the cycle life of the battery increases. There is a problem of shortening. For this reason, a charging device has been proposed in which charging is performed while cooling the battery with a cooling fan provided in the charging device or the like, and charging is performed in a short time with a large current while suppressing heat generation of the battery during charging.
[0003]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-136676 (Patent Document 1) discloses an improvement technique for a charging device including a cooling device that performs charging in a short time with a large current while forced air cooling, and continues cooling the battery even after completion of charging. Is disclosed.
[0004]
Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-31440 (Patent Document 2) has a cooling fan that suppresses heat generation during charging, and a device that can be charged with a relatively large charging current and a charging device that does not have a cooling fan are mixed. The technique which improved the problem by is disclosed.
[0005]
In addition, when charging a low temperature battery, it can be charged in a short time if it is charged with a large current, but the gas pressure inside the battery increases and the cycle life of the battery is shortened. A charging device has been proposed in which charging is performed by charging and charging current is increased in a stepwise manner when the battery temperature rises to a predetermined value with charging.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in a charging device equipped with a cooling fan, if a low temperature battery is charged in a state where the ambient temperature is low while operating the cooling fan, the battery is excessively cooled, so that the temperature rise is also suppressed excessively. There is a problem that it takes a long time to reach the battery temperature for increasing the charging current, and the charging time becomes long. Further, when the charging current is increased in a state where the temperature rise is excessively suppressed, there is a problem that the gas pressure inside the battery rises and the cycle life of the battery is shortened.
[0007]
The object of the present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of the prior art described above, and when charging a low-temperature battery, according to the degree of cooling of the battery, appropriately control the operating status of the cooling fan, shorten the charging time, This is to increase the cycle life of the battery.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the charging device of the present invention is a charging device for charging a secondary battery, battery temperature detecting means for detecting the temperature of the battery, and a detection signal from the battery temperature detecting means. and operation control means for performing the calculation of the battery temperature gradient uptake and is controlled by the output signal of the arithmetic and control unit, and a cooling fan for cooling the battery, the arithmetic and control unit, said with charging start When the cooling fan is driven and it is determined whether the temperature gradient after a predetermined time has exceeded a predetermined value or not, if it is smaller than the predetermined value, the cooling fan is stopped and charging is continued. One of the features is that control is performed so as to continue charging while continuing the operation of the cooling fan .
[0009]
Another feature of the present invention is battery temperature detection means for detecting the temperature of the secondary battery, an arithmetic control device that takes in a detection signal from the battery temperature detection means and controls charging of the battery, and the arithmetic control device. Charging the battery using a charging device including a cooling fan controlled by an output signal of the battery, starting charging at a predetermined charging current while cooling the battery with the cooling fan; A step of calculating a battery temperature gradient based on a detection signal from the battery temperature detection means; a step of determining whether or not the battery temperature gradient after elapse of a predetermined time from the start of charging is equal to or greater than a predetermined value; , If the determination result is smaller than a predetermined value, stop the cooling fan and continue charging the battery; and if the determination result is equal to or greater than the predetermined value, operate the cooling fan. And when the battery temperature detected by the battery temperature detecting means exceeds a predetermined value, the charging current supplied to the battery is charged to a value larger than the current. The charging method includes a step of switching to a current, and a step of detecting a fully charged state of the battery and stopping the charging when it is determined that the battery is fully charged.
[0010]
Another feature of the present invention is that when the battery temperature detected by the battery temperature detecting means exceeds a preset first predetermined value, the charging current supplied to the battery is a value larger than the initial set value I0. The control is to switch to I1.
[0011]
Another feature of the present invention is that when the battery temperature detected by the temperature detection signal exceeds a second predetermined value higher than the first predetermined value, the charging current supplied to the battery is larger than the current I1. The control is to switch to the current I2.

[0017]
Next, an example of the operation of the charging device of the present invention will be described with reference to the circuit diagram of FIG. 1 and the flowchart of FIG.
When the power is turned on, the

Next, the cooling

The charging current flowing through the battery set 2 simultaneously with the start of charging is detected by the current detecting
[0020]
On the other hand, the output signal of the battery temperature detecting means 90 is sampled at a predetermined time interval, taken into the
In step 104, the above-described data Ti-01, Ti-02,... Ti-06 stored in the RAM 53 and various flaves described later are initially reset, and subsequently the battery temperature sampling timer is started (step 105). When the sampling timer time exceeds Δt (for example, 5 seconds) (step 106), the sampling timer is started again (step 107).
[0021]
Next, the voltage from the temperature sensing element 2A is divided by the resistors 91 and 92 of the battery temperature detecting means 90, and the divided value is A / D converted by the A / D converter 55 and taken in as the battery temperature Tin (step 108). . Then, the CPU 51 obtains dT / dt (in) = Tin−Ti-06 as the latest battery temperature gradient from the difference between Tin and the data Ti-06 before 6 sampling (step 109). In this embodiment, since the sampling time is 5 seconds, in step 109, the battery temperature gradient in the latest 30 seconds is obtained.
[0022]
Next, the operation of the cooling
In step 110, it is determined whether or not the cooling fan operation / stop determination flag is 1. If the cooling fan operation / stop determination flag is 1, the process jumps to step 115. When the cooling fan operation / stop determination flag is not 1 in step 110, that is, 0, it is determined whether dT / dt (in) is negative (step 111), and dT / dt (in) is negative. If so, jump to Step 123. Since Ti-01 to Ti-06 contain the value of ∞ by initial reset, dT / dt (in) <0. That is, in step 111, it is determined whether or not a predetermined time (30 seconds in the present embodiment) has elapsed after the start of charging.
If dT / dt (in) becomes positive in step 111, it is determined that a predetermined time has elapsed, and the process proceeds to step 112, where it is determined whether dT / dt (in) is greater than a predetermined value K (step 112). . If it is smaller than K, it is determined that the battery is excessively cooled, and the cooling fan is stopped via the driving means 7 from the output port 56b (step 113). If larger than K,
[0023]
Next, it is determined whether or not the I1 switching flag is 1 (step 115). If the I1 switching flag is 1, the process jumps to step 119. In step 115, if the I1 switching flag is not 1, that is, if it is 0, it is determined whether or not Tin is larger than −10 ° C. (step 116), and if it is smaller than −10 ° C., the process jumps to step 123. In step 116, if Tin is larger than −10 ° C., the charging current is switched to I1 (I1> I0) (step 117), and then the I1 switching flag is set to 1 (step 118).
[0024]
That is, the flow of steps 115 to 118 is larger than the initial charging current I0 when the latest battery temperature Tin exceeds a certain temperature (−10 ° C. in the present embodiment) after a predetermined time has elapsed since the start of charging. The operation of determining that the battery can be charged with the charging current I1 and switching the charging current of the
If the I1 switching flag is 1 in step 115, the process proceeds to step 119, where it is determined whether or not the I2 switching flag is 1. If the I2 switching flag is 1, the process jumps to step 123. If the I2 switching flag is not 1 in step 119, that is, if it is 0, it is determined whether or not Tin is greater than 5 ° C. (step 120), and if it is less than 5 ° C., the process jumps to step 123.
