Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a time-of-flight mass spectrometer (hereinafter referred to as “TOFMS = Time of Flight Mass Spectrometer”).

[0005]
In general, in TOFMS, the flight time is on the order of extremely short microseconds, and therefore it is practically impossible to process the output signal of the
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Since the flight time as described above is proportional to the square root of the mass m of the ions, collecting the number of data per unit Mass delta m in resolution m / Delta] m is often more mass is large, the more mass conversely small Less. In order to separate adjacent peaks on the mass spectrum during data processing, the separation is easier as the number of data constituting the peak increases. Accordingly, the mass is large area even easier to peak separation, the peak separation becomes difficult as mass is small, thereby the lower limit of the analyzable mass will determined.
[0007]
To reduce the analysis limit of this mass, possible in several ways. One is to reduce the acceleration voltage so that the flight time is sufficiently long, that is, to reduce the potential difference Vs in the above example. The second is to increase the distance of the
[0008]
Further, when the analysis is performed by connecting a chromatograph apparatus to the previous stage of the mass spectrometer, it is necessary to repeatedly and continuously perform measurement over a predetermined mass range at a constant period. In order to obtain the peak information of the chromatogram with high accuracy, it is desirable to shorten this measurement period sufficiently. However, since the data transfer rate from the transient recorder to the data processing device has an upper limit on hardware, there is a problem that if the total amount of data is large, the measurement cycle becomes long due to data transfer limitations.
[0009]
The present invention has been made to solve such problems, and the object of the present invention is to provide a TOFMS that can increase the resolution in a desired mass range while appropriately suppressing the entire data amount. Is to provide.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention was made in order to solve the above problems is to introduce the flight space after accelerated various ions generated in the ion source, passed through the flight line space with a different flight time depending on the quality of the ion In a time-of-flight mass spectrometer that detects ions with a detector,
a) sampling means for sampling the detection signal from the detector at a predetermined sampling period and converting it into digital data;
b) while temporarily storing the digital data, a data storage means for transferring to the data processing unit of the accumulated digital data at a predetermined rate,
c) Sampling detection signals corresponding to ions having a relatively small mass in the course of performing a plurality of repeated measurements, rather than sampling detection signals corresponding to ions having a relatively large mass. Control means for changing the sampling period in the sampling means so as to shorten the period ;
It is characterized by having.
[0011]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
That is, in the conventional time-of-flight mass spectrometer, the sampling period in the A / D converter of the transient recorder is fixed to a certain value, whereas in the time-of-flight mass spectrometer according to the present invention, a plurality of times in the middle that sampling cycle of repeated measurements to switch on two or more, the sampling period is shortened by measurement of (i.e. higher the sampling frequency) period corresponds to an ion having a relatively small mass also the detection signals are to be accurately (i.e. fine in quality Ryokoku only) measurements.
[0012]
Specifically, for example, in the case where a plurality of measurements are repeatedly performed, the control means is configured to change the sampling period for each one to a plurality of measurements. When the sampling period is shortened, although the amount of data is increased, as described above, you can obtain data in a relatively fine quality Ryokoku only to a small mass of regions. Thus, by creating a mass spectrum by using the data obtained this way, it becomes easier the separation of the peaks appearing in a small mass area, also the calculation accuracy of the mass corresponding to the peak top improves. In addition, since the total data amount for the predetermined mass range is much smaller than when the sampling cycle is always kept short, the capacity of the data storage means can be suppressed and the measurement interval can be shortened. it can.
[0013]
Similarly, when a plurality of measurements are repeatedly performed, the sampling period may be changed according to a preset time schedule. According to this configuration, the sampling period is shorter aimed timing at which mass is relatively analyzing small components, it is possible to increase the number of data of the peak corresponding to the component, a relatively mass otherwise By acquiring data at a relatively long sampling period at the timing of analyzing a large component, the amount of data can be suppressed.

[0019]
For example, now, in a configuration in which this TOFMS is connected to the latter stage of the chromatograph and components separated in time by the chromatograph are sequentially detected by the TOFMS, it is necessary to repeatedly perform measurement over a predetermined mass range. . Therefore, assuming that the measurement is repeated 10 times per second, if the maximum data transfer rate is 1 MB (megabyte) / second, the data amount per measurement is 100 KB. If one piece of data is composed of 2 bytes (16 bits), the number of data collection points is 50,000. From FIG. 2, when the sampling frequency is at 500 MHz, 100 microns
