Description
(Athena Medical Corp.of Portland,OR)により販売されているFRESH’N FIT▲R▼Padetteである。

好ましくは、バックシートは約0.012mm(0.5ミル)から約0.051mm(2.0ミル)の厚さのポリエチレンフィルムである。

r=2γcos(θ)/P

孔隙容積分布測定のために0.2psi(1.4kPa)の封圧を使用する。
温度:73±3°F(23℃±2℃)

The present invention relates to an absorbent device, and more particularly to an interlabial absorbent device that is adapted to manage various menstrual fluid components in a manner that makes the absorption capacity of the device more effective. Such devices are typically used by female wearers for menstrual purposes.
Background of the Invention
Development of advanced absorbers for blood and blood-based secretions such as menstrual products (eg sanitary napkins, tampons, or interlabial devices), trauma medicinal materials, bandages and surgical drapes is challenging It is a difficult task. Compared to water and urine, blood-based fluids such as blood and menstruation are relatively complex mixtures of dissolved and insoluble components (eg, red blood cells). Blood-based fluids such as menstruation are much more viscous than water and urine, especially due to insoluble components and highly viscous mucosal components. This high viscosity hinders the ability of conventional absorbent materials to effectively and quickly transport these blood-based fluids to sites away from the initial drain point. For example, the insoluble components of these blood-based fluids can potentially clog the capillaries of these absorbent materials, and the highly viscous mucosal components can significantly slow the absorption rate. This makes it particularly difficult to design an appropriate absorption system for blood based fluids such as menstruation.
In the case of menstrual goods, women expect a high level of performance with regard to comfort and fit, retention of secretions and minimal contamination. In particular, leakage of secretions from the pad to the undergarment is considered unacceptable at all. Despite numerous improvements in menstrual structures and materials used in such structures, improving the performance of such menstrual articles is a difficult task. However, it does not necessarily meet consumer demands, particularly in terms of removing leakage along the inside of the thigh without sacrificing fit and comfort.
Prior art sanitary napkins attempt in various ways to focus on the absorption of very viscous secretions such as menstruation. For example, US Pat. No. 4,973,325 issued Nov. 27, 1990 to Sherrod et al. Is said to facilitate downward and outward movement of bodily fluids toward remote areas of the absorber. A transport member is provided. The transport member positioned above, between, and below the absorbent material includes a material for easily transporting the secretory fluid and delivering body fluid to the cellulose absorbent. While such a structure represents an improvement in fluid distribution, the ability to facilitate fluid movement to remote areas of the absorber has a sufficiently small pore size distribution (due to capillary wicking) A porous network may be required, which may be clogged with menstrual solid components. In another example, US patent application Ser. No. 08 / 382,921, filed February 3, 1995, in the name of Horney et al. And published as PCT application WO 96/23474 on August 8, 1996, Describes an absorber with a capture component having a pore size in the range of suspended matter and the like. Capture components capture and store (ie, filter) such components from bodily waste so that low viscosity components pass through and are stored in small pore storage components. Filtration of fluids such as menstruation has obvious advantages when utilizing absorption capacity. However, the filtering action of the components means that the pores that have filtered the components are no longer available for fast absorption or transport of secretions (ie, the pores are clogged). However, devices worn on the outside are typically larger than devices worn on the inside, and fluids can flow to unfilled parts for absorption, compared to devices adapted near the fluid source, The problem of clogging is less important for external wear devices as described in the application of Horney et al.
The interlabial pad is positioned in close proximity to the ostium and allows fluids such as menstruation to be shut off immediately after draining, thus potentially reducing the risk of leakage. In the past, numerous attempts have been made to create an interlabial pad that combines the superior features of tampon and sanitary napkin while avoiding at least some of the disadvantages associated with each of these types of devices. It was. Examples of such devices are U.S. Pat. No. 2,917,049 issued to Delaney on Dec. 15, 1959, U.S. Pat. No. 3, issued to Harmon on Jan. 7, 1969. 420,235, US Pat. No. 4,959,392 issued to Johnson et al. On June 17, 1986, and Rosenblue et al. On December 24, 1991 and August 9, 1994, respectively. U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,074,855 and 5,336,208, and U.S. Pat. No. 5,484,429 issued to Vukos et al. Yes. A commercially available interlabial device is described in US Pat. Nos. 3,983,873 and 4,175,561 issued to Hirschman on Oct. 5, 1976 and Nov. 27, 1979, respectively. FRESH'N FIT® Padette sold by Athena Medical Corp. of Portland, Oregon.
However, many of these devices have not been very successful in the market. There are drawbacks associated with all of the above products. For example, the device described in the Delaney patent does not appear to allow for easy and comfortable insertion due to the possibility of a layer of absorbent material opening during insertion. Commercially available Padette products suffer from the disadvantage that they may not be able to provide protection when the wearer squats down.
In addition, the capillary on or near the surface of such products directed at the wearer may not be able to rapidly absorb the viscous components of bodily excretion such as menstruation, or the surface capillaries May be clogged with particulate material such as cytoplasmic debris. Such clogging results in reduced absorption efficiency and increased risk of leakage.
Thus, there is a need for an interlabial device that is small in size, easy to insert, and provides protection against incontinence, menstrual discharge and excretion from the body through a wide range of wearer movements.
There is also a need for an interlabial device that resists clogging with components of excreta from the body, such as viscous fluids and cytoplasmic debris. For prior art menstrual articles that are not worn between labia such as sanitary napkins, clogging of the surface capillaries is not a significant problem. This is because the fluid can spread over a relatively large surface area, bypassing the clogged portion. In other words, even if only a part of the surface of the sanitary napkin is clogged with cytoplasmic debris or the like, the fluid can easily move to an area where it is not clogged and absorbed. In addition, prior art menstrual articles often do not have a body fit so that the device can move relative to the body. As a result, waste from the body may be placed on one part of the device at a time and on another part at another time, reducing the risk of clogging a given part. On the other hand, the interlabial device is held in the same relative position relative to the wearer's ostium and urethral opening throughout the entire range of wearer movement. As a result, body waste is continuously placed in the same part of the interlabial device. This means that there is a higher risk of clogging the interlabial device than other menstrual products of the prior art.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an interlabial absorption device that is small in size and easy to insert.
Another object of the present invention is to consistently provide both mouth and urethral openings so as to provide protection against menstrual discharge, incontinence and body excretion over the entire range of wearer movements. It is to provide an interlabial absorption device that blocks.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an interlabial absorption device that "controls" the absorption of very viscous or insoluble components of secretions such as menstruation by resisting clogging of the capillaries by these components It is to be.
These and other objects of the present invention will be readily apparent when taken in conjunction with the following description and considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
Summary of the Invention
The present invention relates to an absorbent device, and more particularly to an interlabial absorbent device that can be inserted into the interlabial space of a female wearer for menstrual purposes, incontinence protection, or both.
This invention is an interlabial absorption device that can be inserted into the space between the labia of a female wearer, the interlabial absorption device having a longitudinal centerline, a lateral centerline, a surface that contacts the body, The interlabial absorption device comprises a main absorption portion having a top surface that is in the same plane as the surface that contacts the body, and when the interlabial absorption device is worn, the top surface faces the bottom of the vestibule of the female wearer To do. The main absorbent portion is: a capture member positioned along the longitudinal centerline and extending downward from the top surface and having a first pore with a first pore volume distribution; and in fluid communication with the capture member And a storage member that is on the outside in the lateral direction of the capture member, extends downward from the top surface, and has a second pore with a second pore volume distribution. In the first pore volume distribution, at least 75% of the first pores have a capillary radius greater than 20 microns; in the second pore volume distribution, the average capillary radius of the second pore is the The first pore volume distribution is less than the average of the capillary radii of the first pores, thereby causing the storage member to draw liquid from the capture member.

As used herein, the term “space between the labia” refers to the space within the vulva of the female anatomy that is placed between the inner surfaces of the large labia extending into the vestibule. Located in this interlabial space are the basic genitourinary organs, including the labia minora, vestibule, and clitoris, urethral orifice, and ostium. Standard medical authority teaches that the vestibule is laterally rebounded by the inner surface of the labia minora and refers to the space extending inwardly to the bottom between the clitoris and the ostium. Thus, as described above, it will be appreciated that the interlabial space can refer to the space between the inner surfaces of the large labia, including the space between the inner surfaces of the small labia, also known as the vestibule. For the purposes of this disclosure, the space between the labia does not extend substantially beyond the ostium into the vagina.
The term “labial” as used herein generally refers to both the large and small labia. The labia ends before and after in the front and back commissures, respectively. It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the relative size and shape of the large and small labia vary widely among women. However, for the purposes of the present disclosure, such differences need not be particularly focused. As described above, the interlabial absorption device can be placed in the space between the wearer's labia, regardless of the exact location of the boundary between the large and small labia for a particular wearer. It will be necessary to put. For a detailed description of this part of the female anatomy, attention is directed to Gray's Anatomy, Running Press 1901 (1974), pages 1025-1027. .

Dry caliper
principle
A comparator gauge that is weighted to provide a predetermined sealing pressure can be used to measure the dry caliper of the sample.
apparatus
A suitable comparator gauge gauge is B.W. of Waltham, Mass. C. Ames, model 130, with a dial indicator model 482, available from B.C. Ames, Company. The comparator gauge should have an aluminum circular comparator foot capable of exerting a load pressure of 0.25 pounds per square inch (1.7 kPa). It will be appreciated that the diameter of the comparator foot can be varied to accommodate different sample sizes as long as the load pressure is constant.
operation
1. Set the comparator gauge to zero according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Lift the comparator foot and place the sample on the base plate. Position the sample on the base plate so that it is centered when the foot is lowered. The comparator foot must be at least 5 millimeters from the edge of every sample. Make the sample smooth and free from wrinkles.
3. Slowly lower your foot over the sample.
4). Caliper is determined by reading the reading on the comparator dial 30 seconds after the foot has contacted the sample.
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for two additional samples.
Calculation
The average of the three readings is the caliper for the material.
Absorption capacity
principle
If the load fluid is similar to menstruation, the total absorption capacity of the interlabial absorption device is measured as the difference between the dry weight of the device and the load weight.
apparatus

Test fluid Sterile blood excluding fibrin, available from Cleveland Scientific, Inc. of Bath, Ohio. Sheep blood is a labile material that has a limited shelf life even when stored under appropriate conditions. It comprises a mixture consisting of about 15% by weight of hemoglobin and heterogeneous components having a water content of 75-80% by weight, including ion-containing salts, lactic acid and urea. This blood should be stored in a sealed container at 4 ° C. ± 1 ° C. prior to use. If not used, it should be discarded after 2 weeks. The test is performed at a temperature of 23 ° C. ± 1 ° C. Prior to warming the sheep blood to that temperature in a water bath and transferring it to the fluid container, it should be agitated to ensure a uniform distribution of the ingredients.
procedure
1) Prior to testing, prepare the test sample by leaving it in a room at 50% relative humidity and 73 ° F. (23 ° C.) for 2 hours. The test should be performed under similar conditions.
2) Pour about 1 liter of sheep blood into the fluid container.
3) Weigh the test sample in units of 0.1 g and determine the dry weight.
4) Submerge the sample in sheep blood.
5) Remove the absorber from the blood of the sheep after 15 minutes.
6) Place the absorbent on a horizontal wire mesh screen with 0.25 inch x 0.25 inch (64 mm x 64 mm) square openings and allow to drain for 5 minutes.
7) Weigh the sample to the nearest 0.1 gram and record the weight.
8) The sample is sandwiched between two filter papers and a uniform load of 0.25 pounds per square inch (1.7 kPa) is applied to the sample for 35 seconds.
9) Weigh the sample to the nearest 0.1 gram and record the weight.
10) Increase load to 1 pound per square inch (6.8 kPa) and maintain the pressure for 19 seconds.
11) Remove the sample from between the filter papers and reweigh the sample to the nearest 0.1 gram to determine the load weight.
Calculation and reporting
Absorption capacity is defined as the difference between load weight and dry weight.
Pore volume distribution
principle
The pore volume distribution for the sample is measured to a pore size of about 5 microns using a Liquid Research Institute at the Textile Research Institute in Princeton, NJ. The instrument applies (i) a preselected, generally increasing hydrostatic air pressure to a sample pad capable of absorbing / desorbing fluid through membrane tissue saturated with fluid, and (ii) each Determine the increase and cumulative amount of fluid absorbed / desorbed by the pad at pressure. A weight is placed on the sample to ensure good contact between the sample and the membrane tissue and to apply a moderate mechanical sealing pressure. In order to ensure the wetness of the fiber surface (cos (θ) = 1), typically a fluid with a low surface tension (γ) is used.
Each sample evaluation comprises an absorption / desorption cycle. The absorber sequence measures the ratio of the cumulative amount absorbed to the incrementally decreasing hydrostatic pressure. This is followed by a single desorption sequence, measuring the ratio of cumulative desorbed to incrementally increasing hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure is approximately 5 microns equivalent radius:
r = 2γcos (θ) / P
From a high pressure corresponding to 0 to a pressure close to or near zero corresponding to an equivalent radius of at least about 1000 microns or more.

procedure
Sample preparation
Immediately before measuring the pore volume distribution, the caliper of the sample is measured at a sealing pressure of 0.2 psi (1.4 kPa) (as described herein). Calculate sample density from sample weight, caliper and area.
Sealing pressure
A sealing pressure of 0.2 psi (1.4 kPa) is used for pore volume distribution measurement. The same or equivalent weight used to determine the density of the sample is used to apply the sealing pressure during the pore volume measurement.
Instrument configuration
Set up the porosity meter according to the instructions for use.
Absorption / desorption cycle characteristics
The absorption / desorption cycle comprises two steps. First, there is a single absorption sequence, which measures the ratio of the cumulative amount absorbed to the incrementally decreasing hydrostatic pressure. This is followed by a single desorption sequence, measuring the ratio of cumulative desorbed to incrementally increasing hydrostatic pressure. The hydrostatic pressure ranges from a high pressure corresponding to an equivalent radius of approximately 5 microns to zero or near zero corresponding to an equivalent radius of at least about 1000 microns.
Absorption / desorption procedures for early dry samples
1. Enter the input parameters as described in the instrument's instruction manual and start the control computer program.
2. Secure the top of the instrument test cell and close the vent valve. Open the liquid flow valve to the balance. In this step, the sample has not yet been placed in the test cell.
3. Control computer program is followed. The hydrostatic pressure is adjusted to a preset value slightly higher than the initial input pressure used in the experiment (ie STOPRADIUS).
4). After equilibration is signaled, the fluid valve leading to equilibration is closed, the test cell is opened, the sample is placed on the membrane tissue, a sealing weight is placed, and the top of the instrument test cell is secured.
5. Continue the program and adjust the hydrostatic pressure to the first input pressure.
6). After the equilibrium state is signaled, the fluid valve that reaches the equilibrium state is opened.
7). The sample is circulated through a predetermined series of pressures corresponding to a specific equivalent pore radius.
Blank subtraction
As above, but empty the test cell and record a blank run. This determines the background absorption / desorption reaction of the system and membrane tissue. Cumulative absorption and desorption values versus hydrostatic pressure are obtained. These values are used to correct the corresponding values measured for the sample.
Normalized cumulative calculation
Based on the increasing volume value, the control computer program calculates a blank corrected value for the cumulative versus equivalent pore radius. The cumulative amount is divided by the dry weight of the pad and reported in units of mm3 / mg. Divide the cumulative volume by the saturated volume (ie, the cumulative volume measured for the maximum equivalent radius at zero or near zero pressure) and the normalized cumulative volume (expressed in%) to the equivalent pore radius ratio obtain.

Temperature: 73 ± 3 ° F (23 ° C ± 2 ° C)
Humidity: 50 ± 2% relative humidity
Paper cutter scissors or other equivalent may be used
Dish Suitable for sample size to soak wet burst samples
Solution The water for soaking the wet burst sample should be equilibrated with the temperature of the conditioning chamber.
Timer suitable for measuring immersion time
Sample preparation
1) Cut the sample to a size suitable for testing (minimum sample size 4.5 inches x 4.5 inches). Prepare a minimum of 5 samples for each condition to be tested.
2) When performing wet burst measurements, place an appropriate number of cut samples in a dish filled with water equilibrated in temperature.
Equipment setting
1) Set up the burst tester according to the manufacturer's instructions. When using an Select-II-STD tensile test instrument, the following conditions are appropriate:
Speed: 12.7 cm per minute
Destruction sensitivity: 20 grams
Peak load: 2000 grams
2) Calibrate the load cell scale according to the expected burst strength.
Measurement and reporting
1) Operate the burst tester according to the manufacturer's instructions and obtain burst strength measurements for each sample.
2) Record the burst strength for each sample and calculate the average and standard deviation of the burst strength for each condition.
3) Report the mean and standard deviation in grams for each condition.
Wet elasticity
principle
A test sample saturated to its free absorption capacity with 0.9% saline solution is compressed to 1/2 of its pre-compressed caliper. The pressure is then released so that the sample recovers thickness in the presence of the drained fluid. The percentage recovery is based on the original wet caliper of the uncompressed sample.
Test fluid
The sample is saturated using an aqueous solution of sodium chloride (0.9 wt% saline) available from Baxter Travenol Company, Deerfield, IL.
Facility
Caliper Gauge A 1 inch (2.54 cm) diameter circular foot, such as Ono Sokki model GS503, available from Major-All, Inc. of Fairfield, Ohio. Digital gauge with
Tensile / Compression Tester Sintech Renew / Tencil running MTS Sintech 3.04 software available from MTS Systems Corporation of Eden Prairie, MN Tensile / Compression)
Load cell Suitable for tension / compression testing machine, 100N
Compression plate 1 inch (2.54 cm) diameter flat circular plate attached to the crosshead
Equipment setting
Gauge length 4.00mm
Crosshead speed 5.0 millimeters per minute
Turning distance 1/2 of initial sample caliper
Method
1) A 10 cm × 10 cm sample is cut from the material to be tested.
2) Soak the sample in 0.9% salt solution for 8 minutes.
3) Measure the wet caliper using a caliper gauge under a sealing pressure of 0.1 psi (0.7 kPa).
4) Set the swivel distance (gauge length -1.5 x wet caliper) in the tension / compression tester.
5) Place the sample on a 140 mm diameter flat circular plate on a tensile / compression tester and start the crosshead.
6) Record the distance between the downward (downward distance) cycle and the crosshead return (return distance) cycle at a force of 32 grams (ie 0.1 psi (0.7 kPa) pressure).
Calculation
Wet elasticity = 100 * ((gauge length) − (return distance)) / ((gauge length) − (downward distance))
