Description
The present invention relates to a direct type backlight.
Backlights used for liquid crystal display devices and the like are roughly classified into sidelight type backlights and direct type backlights. Among these, the direct type backlight is suitable for upsizing and has a feature that it is easy to obtain high luminance, and is particularly widely used as a large-sized flat light emitting device. In liquid crystal display devices, for example, direct type backlights are increasingly used as flat light emitting devices used for large screens of 15 inches or more, for example.
A conventional general direct type backlight will be described with reference to the drawings. Here, a case where a display unit such as a liquid crystal panel or an optical sheet is used will be described as an example. FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view in a plane orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the
The conventional direct type backlight described above has a problem that deformation such as bending is likely to occur in the diffusion plate. The deformation is caused by the weight of the diffusion plate and other external stresses, changes with time, the influence of heat from the reflection sheet, and the like. If deformation such as bending occurs in the diffusion plate, the uniformity of diffusion of the transmitted light is lowered, so that the light emission quality as a backlight is lowered. Further, when a display unit or an optical sheet such as a liquid crystal panel is used, the optical sheet and the liquid crystal panel are also deformed along with the deformation of the diffusion plate, and liquid crystal display unevenness is generated. Further, since the upper frame and the like are separate from each other, there is a problem that the number of parts of the backlight is increased, and the assembly cost is increased due to an increase in the part management cost and the number of backlight assembly processes.
The present invention has been made in view of such a situation, and an object of the present invention is to provide a direct type backlight that can improve the light emitting quality by suppressing the deformation of the diffusion plate and further has a small number of components.
The direct type backlight according to the present invention includes a diffusion plate integrated frame portion in which a diffusion plate that transmits and diffuses light from a light source and a frame portion provided around the diffusion plate are integrally formed, and the diffusion plate is disposed. And a lower frame having a light source disposed therein, and the diffusion plate has a thickness changing portion whose thickness continuously increases from the center side toward the peripheral side. Features.
In this case, since the diffusion plate and the frame portion are integrally formed, the diffusion plate is reinforced by the frame portion, deformation of the diffusion plate is suppressed, and the number of parts is reduced. Further, stress such as its own weight acting on the diffusion plate is dispersed by the thickness changing portion, and the diffusion plate is hardly bent.
In the direct type backlight described above, the diffusion plate may be configured only by the thickness changing portion. If it does in this way, since the whole diffusion plate is a thickness change part, it will become the composition which thickness increases continuously from the center part of a diffusion plate to a peripheral part, and the bending of a diffusion plate becomes the minimum. In addition, since the central portion has higher brightness than the peripheral portion, a high light emission quality can be obtained particularly as an image backlight.
Moreover, the said diffuser plate is good also as a structure which consists of a thickness change part from which the thickness is continuously increased toward the peripheral side from the center side, and an equal thickness part with constant thickness. Since the transmittance is constant at the equal thickness portion and the brightness is easily uniformed, it is possible to achieve both uniformity of brightness and suppression of bending by appropriately combining the equal thickness portion and the thickness changing portion. In this case, it is preferable that the thickness changing portion is provided on a peripheral portion of the diffusion plate, and the equal thickness portion is provided on the center side of the thickness changing portion. If it does in this way, the brightness | luminance of the center part of a diffusion plate will become uniform by an equal thickness part, and the bending of a diffusion plate can be suppressed by a thickness change part. In addition, since the brightness of the central portion is higher than that of the peripheral portion, a high light emission quality can be obtained particularly as an image backlight.
The thickness of the diffusion plate is preferably 0.5 mm or more and 5 mm or less. If the thickness is less than 0.5 mm, the rigidity may be insufficient and the film may be easily deformed, or light diffusion may be insufficient and the light emission quality may be deteriorated. On the other hand, if it is thicker than 5 mm, its own weight may become too large to bend easily, or the amount of material used may increase and the manufacturing cost may increase. In addition, by setting the thickness of the diffusion plate in the range of 0.5 mm to 5 mm, it is possible to suppress the difference in the thickness of the diffusion plate from becoming too large and the luminance from being excessively nonuniform.
The surface of the diffusion plate is preferably smoothly continuous. This is because if there is a portion that is not smoothly continuous, the light emission in that portion becomes non-uniform, and the light emission quality may deteriorate.
Since the diffuser plate and the frame portion are integrally formed, deformation of the diffuser plate is suppressed and the number of parts is reduced. Furthermore, since the thickness changing portion is provided, stress such as its own weight acting on the diffusion plate is dispersed, and the diffusion plate is hardly bent.
FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view showing a schematic configuration of a
The
In addition, as a material of the
2 is a plan view of the diffuser plate integrated
The
The overall schematic shape of the
As described above, the diffuser plate integrated
As shown in FIG. 3, the
The entire
等厚部tはその全体が平板状であり、また等厚部tの中心点c(等厚部tの重心から拡散板4の外面4aに下ろした垂線と該外面4aとの交点)は、拡散板4の中心点c(拡散板4の重心から拡散板4の外面4aに下ろした垂線と該外面4aとの交点)と一致している。
As shown in FIG. 4, the
The thickness distribution of the
As described above, since the
Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 4, the
The
Since the
Furthermore, stress such as its own weight acting on the
In addition, since the light transmittance is constant at the equal thickness portion t and the luminance is easily uniformed, it is possible to achieve both uniformity of luminance and suppression of bending by appropriately combining the equal thickness portion t and the thickness changing portion h. At the same time, a desired luminance distribution is obtained. Further, since the thickness changing portion h is provided on the peripheral portion of the
Further, since the equal thickness portion t thinner than the thickness change portion h is provided on the center side of the thickness change portion h, the luminance distribution in the
The thickness of the
Further, since the surface of the
Conventionally, in order to prevent the diffusion plate from being bent due to its own weight or the like, there is a case where a support pin for supporting the diffusion plate from the inner surface side is provided in the vicinity of the center portion of the
The upper frame 34 (see FIG. 7) in the above-described prior art often uses a metal such as stainless steel or aluminum in consideration of cost and the like. In this case, however, the upper frame 34 (see FIG. 7) is relatively hot due to heat radiation from the light source, particularly the electrode. The temperature of the metal frame with good conductivity increases. When the liquid crystal panel is in contact with this metal frame, the temperature of the liquid crystal panel at that portion becomes partially high, and the temperature distribution of the liquid crystal panel becomes non-uniform, resulting in deterioration of the quality of the liquid crystal screen such as color shift. become. Therefore, in this case, it is necessary to provide a heat shielding resin (foaming resin spacer) between the metallic frame and the liquid crystal panel, and also to make the guide ribs for fixing and positioning the liquid crystal panel. As in this embodiment, when the diffuser plate integrated
In the conventional backlight shown in FIG. 7, since the
On the other hand, in the diffuser plate integrated
Further, as in the prior art (see FIG. 7), when the
Further, the luminance distribution of the light emitting surface can be arbitrarily adjusted by appropriately devising the thickness distribution of the thickness changing portion h or by appropriately devising the arrangement of the thickness changing portion h and the equal thickness portion t. .
In addition, since the
そして、拡散板4の厚さが最も薄い部分は拡散板4の中心点c(即ち拡散板4の重心から拡散板4の外面4aに下ろした垂線と該外面4aとの交点)の位置とされている。

In FIG. 5A, the
If it does in this way, since the whole diffusion plate is a thickness change part, it will become the composition which thickness increases continuously from the center part of a diffusion plate to a peripheral part, and the bending of a diffusion plate becomes the minimum. In addition, since the central portion has higher brightness than the peripheral portion, a high light emission quality can be obtained particularly as an image backlight. In addition, since the thinnest part of the

In the modification of FIG. 5B, the central portion of the
In FIG. 5C, the
5D, the
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the
The material characteristics of the diffuser plate integrated
When the diffusing
Moreover, the

In addition, the thickness changing portion h of the present invention may change in thickness only in one direction (for example, the longitudinal direction of the light source 10), or in two directions (for example, in addition to the longitudinal direction of the
