BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a quadruple tandem image forming apparatus having two image forming modes of a color mode and a monochrome mode.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In the current image forming apparatus, as a means for stably transporting paper in the apparatus, a toner image is transferred from a paper transport belt that electrostatically attracts the paper or an image carrier such as a photoconductor while transporting the paper. A transfer conveyance belt is used. In particular, in a quadruple tandem type color image forming apparatus, a transfer conveyance belt is essential. In such a quadruple tandem system, there is a problem in that the life of the photoconductor is shortened if the transfer conveyance belt is kept in contact with all the photoconductors even when performing monochrome printing. Control is performed such that the photosensitive member not used for printing and the transfer conveyance belt are separated from each other. The functions of the transfer / conveying belt are to convey the sheet stably and to transfer the toner image onto the sheet. When images are transferred from all the photoconductors, the position from the supply position of the sheet to the belt is close to the first transfer, and at the first transfer station, the sheet is simultaneously sucked together with the transfer of the image.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Prior to transfer, it is not necessary to adsorb the paper to the belt. For example, in the monochrome mode in which printing is performed using only black at the fourth station, the paper is transported over a long distance while being on the belt. If it is not sufficiently adsorbed, it may be jammed due to being caught by the photoconductor separated from the belt. For this reason, in the monochrome mode, it is essential to suck the paper onto the belt. On the other hand, when suction is performed in the color mode, in a humid environment with low sheet resistance, the suction charge may act on the transfer electric field of the first station, and transfer failure may occur. This is conspicuous in an adsorption method in which a charge is applied and adsorbed after the paper is placed on the belt. In order to prevent this, in the color mode, a method of separating the adsorption electrode from the belt can be considered, but there is a problem that a separation mechanism is required and the apparatus becomes complicated.
[0004]
Further, in order to make the paper come into close contact with the belt, a pressing mechanism for pressing the paper against the belt is required. If this pressing mechanism is arranged in the belt unit, there is a problem that if the belt unit is pulled out of the machine for jam processing, the belt jam processing cannot be performed smoothly.
[0005]
In addition, as a method of regulating the meandering of the belt, the belt is adjusted to one side by adjusting the belt tension, using a taper roller as the driven roller, and the regulating plate is brought into contact with the belt end on the approached side. There are ways to prevent meandering. In such a printing apparatus using the meandering regulation method, when the above-described paper pressing member is brought into contact, the meandering regulation is adversely affected. This is because the meandering regulation system slides the belt in the longitudinal direction on the driven roller to regulate the meandering, and the pressing member hinders the belt from moving in the longitudinal direction at the driven roller. To do.
[0006]
The present application has been made in view of the above problems, and an object thereof is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing good image formation in both a color mode and a monochrome mode.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes first and second image carriers that are rotatably supported, an image forming unit that forms an image on these image carriers, an endless belt, and two image carriers. A rotating roller that is in contact with the first and second image carriers and conveys the paper to the contact point; and the contact point is formed on the image carrier via the conveying unit. Transfer means for transferring an image onto the paper, separation means for separating the at least second image carrier and the conveying means while maintaining a state in contact with the first image carrier, A pressing unit that presses the paper on the conveying unit against the conveying unit. In the first mode, the pressing unit is in contact with only the first image carrier by the separating unit. At a position where the pressing position does not face the rotating roller, In the second mode in which the conveying unit is in contact with all the image carriers, the pressing unit presses the conveying unit at a position facing the rotating roller.
[0008]
An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes at least first and second image carriers that are rotatably supported, an image forming unit that forms an image on these image carriers, an endless belt, and 2 A rotating unit that is in contact with the at least two image carriers and conveys the paper to the contact points; and at the contact point, an image formed on the image carrier via the conveying unit is provided. Transfer means for transferring onto the paper, separation means for separating the at least second image carrier and the conveyance means while maintaining a state in contact with the first image carrier, and the conveyance means The adsorbing means for adsorbing the upper sheet to the conveying means, and the bias applying means for applying a bias to the adsorbing means, the adsorbing means being arranged on the first image carrier by the separating means. Abutting In the first mode, in the second mode in which the conveying means is in contact with all the image carriers at a position facing the rotating roller, in the position not facing the rotating roller, the contact position to the conveying means. Is characterized by displacement.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
A first embodiment of an image forming apparatus having a plurality of photosensitive drums according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view showing an image forming apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. 1,

A transfer bias power supply 26 is connected to the transfer roller 23a in order to form a transfer electric field, and a bias having a polarity opposite to the charging polarity of the toner is applied. In this configuration, for example, the toner charging polarity is (−) polarity, and the transfer bias polarity is (+) polarity (a bias of +800 to +4000 V is applied).
[0012]
At the same time, in this transfer region, (+) charge is imparted to the transfer belt, and (−) charge is imparted to the paper by discharge between the photosensitive drum 1a, so that charges of different polarities are obtained. By attracting the sheet, the sheet is electrostatically attracted to the

If the suction force is weak, transfer blur occurs due to the paper blurring from a predetermined position when reaching the transfer nip region in the process unit 4 in the monochrome mode. FIG. 6 shows the relationship between the sheet suction force and the transfer blur occurrence rate. As can be seen from this graph, when the sheet adsorption force is 40 g or less, the transfer blur occurrence rate exceeds 0.1%, which is a problem. From this measurement, it can be seen that a sheet suction force of 40 g or more is required in order to prevent transfer blur in the monochrome mode with a long paper transport distance.
