BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus that prevents variation in print density depending on the use environment, and a print control method therefor.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in a thermal printer, when driving a line thermal head having a large number of heating elements, a predetermined number of heating elements are divided into a plurality of blocks, and the plurality of blocks are further divided into a first group and a second group. Separately, when the number of dots in one line of print data to be printed is detected and the detected number of dots is less than the specified number, high-speed printing is performed by simultaneously driving the first group and second group line thermal heads. On the other hand, if the number of dots in the detected print data exceeds the specified number, the first group of line thermal heads and the second group of line thermal heads are driven serially to perform low-speed printing over time. The image quality associated with the voltage drop is not reduced (see Patent Document 1).
[0003]
That is, when the number of dots of print data for one line to be printed is less than the specified number, the number of heating elements driven simultaneously by this print data is small, and the current flowing through all the heating elements driven is not so much. The image quality does not deteriorate so much, and high-speed printing with an emphasis on the printing speed can be performed. On the other hand, if the number of dots in one line of print data to be printed exceeds the specified number, if the heating elements are driven simultaneously with this print data, the number of all heating elements to be driven increases and the voltage increases. The dot diameter decreases and the image quality deteriorates. Therefore, the first group of line thermal heads and the second group of line thermal heads are separated and driven serially (low-speed printing) by this print data, and the number of heating elements that are driven simultaneously is halved to prevent image quality deterioration. It is out.
[0004]
In such a thermal printer, the influence of the ambient temperature also affects the image quality. Therefore, it is common to change the amount of heat generated as the ambient temperature increases and decreases. For example, there is (Patent Document 2) as such a thermal printer. A temperature detector is provided to detect the temperature near the heating element, and the energization pulse amount is corrected for printing. This enables high quality printing.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
A conventional thermal printer or an image forming apparatus such as a facsimile machine equipped with a thermal printer detects the number of dots in one line of print data to be printed. If the detected number of dots is less than a specified number, High-speed printing is performed by simultaneously driving the second group of line thermal heads. If the number of detected dots exceeds the specified number, the first group of line thermal heads and the second group of line thermal heads are serialized. It was driven to perform low-speed printing so that the image quality associated with the voltage drop did not deteriorate.
[0007]
In addition, the conventional image forming apparatus is provided with a temperature detection unit to detect the ambient temperature and correct variations due to the ambient temperature of the heating element. That is, when the ambient temperature is low, it takes time until the heating element reaches a constant temperature, so the strobe signal is lengthened. When the ambient temperature is high, the strobe signal is shortened because the constant temperature is reached in a relatively short time. In this way, the print density is made substantially uniform by varying the strobe signal and adjusting the application time.
[0008]
However, even if the strobe signal width is corrected, the variation in the print density cannot actually be eliminated. The present inventors diligently investigated the cause and reached that the cause is a timing mismatch between the temperature of the heating element and the operation of the transport motor. That is, in the conventional thermal printer, the operation timing of the conveyance motor is set at a time delayed by a certain time from the application start timing of the strobe signal, the temperature is corrected based on the ON timing of the strobe signal, and the heat generation of the thermal head is started. Because.
[0009]
However, if this operation timing of the conveyance motor is adopted and the strobe signal is made variable, the operation timing of the conveyance motor and the temperature of the heating element become irrelevant, resulting in variations in print density due to changes in ambient temperature. is what happened. FIG. 5A is a relationship diagram between the strobe signal, the heat generation temperature and the motor rotation under the standard temperature of the conventional print control method, and FIG. 5B is the strobe signal and the heat generation temperature under the high temperature of the conventional print control method. FIG. 5C is a relationship diagram of the strobe signal, the heat generation temperature, and the motor rotation at a low temperature in the conventional printing control method.
[0010]
As shown in FIG. 5A, under the standard ambient temperature, the heat generation temperature of the thermal head is the maximum and constant temperature at the timing when the strobe signal is turned OFF, and this timing coincides with the operation timing of the transport motor. However, when the ambient temperature becomes high, the timing of turning off the strobe signal is corrected as shown in FIG. 5B, and the temperature of the heating element becomes a constant temperature in a shorter time than the standard. It is rotated at the same timing. For this reason, the conveyance motor starts rotating after the temperature of the heating element starts to decrease. Similarly, when the ambient temperature becomes low, the heating element rises to a constant temperature over a long period of time as shown in FIG. Accordingly, the operation timing of the transport motor is shifted, and the rotation is started before the temperature of the heating element rises.
[0011]

It is another object of the present invention to provide a print control method that can ensure image quality very easily without variation in print density even when the ambient temperature changes.

【The invention's effect】
According to the image forming apparatus and the print control method of the present invention, when printing is performed on the thermal head, the ambient temperature is detected by the temperature detection unit, and correction is performed so that the thermal head generates heat up to a certain temperature at the ambient temperature. Therefore, even if the ambient temperature changes, the coloring is stabilized, and the rotation of the recording paper conveyance motor can be started at the timing when the heat generation is finished by the motor excitation request signal issued by the motor rotation timing processing means. Even if the ambient temperature changes, the color development is always constant and the print density does not vary, and the image quality can be secured very easily and an inexpensive image forming apparatus can be provided.

By counting the number of dots in the count processing unit, high-speed printing can be easily performed for images that do not deteriorate image quality even at high speeds, or low-speed printing can be performed for images that have poor image quality at high speeds. Even if it changes, the print density does not vary.
[0041]
By simply selecting a strobe signal having a pulse width that can generate heat to a constant temperature based on the ambient temperature, it is possible to easily prevent variations in print density even if the ambient temperature changes.
