逆に、接点2e2(接点50e2)から接点2e1(接点50e1)へ向かって流れる電流は、逆方向の電流となる。
【0053】
逆に、接点2e3(接点50e3)から接点2e1(接点50e1)へ向かって流れる電流は、逆方向の電流となる。
【0078】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink jet printer that performs printing by discharging ink, and an ink cartridge used in the ink jet printer, and more particularly, an ink jet printer that can accurately detect the mounting of a proper ink cartridge and the ink jet printer thereof. The present invention relates to an ink cartridge used in the above.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The ink jet printer includes an ink cartridge that can be attached to and detached from the main body, and performs printing by discharging ink stored in the ink cartridge from a print head. The ink stored in the ink cartridge is consumed by printing, and eventually the ink cartridge becomes empty (ink empty). The remaining amount of ink in the ink cartridge is managed by counting the number of ink ejections from the nozzles of the print head. When the ink jet printer determines that the ink remaining amount is “0” (or the ink remaining amount is small), it displays ink empty and prompts the user to replace the ink cartridge.
[0003]
When the ink empty is displayed, the user removes an empty ink cartridge from the main body and installs a new ink cartridge. Since the ink cartridge is provided with an electrical contact with the printer main body, the ink cartridge is in a conductive state when it is mounted and disconnected when it is detached. Based on the presence or absence of this electrical continuity, the ink jet printer determines the presence or absence (attached or not attached) of the ink cartridge. According to this, when the ink-jet printer changes from the conductive state to the non-conductive state and then becomes conductive again, the inkjet printer can determine that a new ink cartridge has been installed.

Here, when a user accidentally installs an old cartridge, or an ink cartridge that can still be used may be attached or detached for cleaning or adjustment. In order to operate the ink jet printer normally in such a case, it is necessary for the ink jet printer to discriminate between an old (ink empty) ink cartridge and an ink cartridge that is not. For this reason, a method is used in which a fuse connected to the above-described contact is provided inside the ink cartridge, and this fuse is blown in an ink empty state.
[0005]
That is, the electrical state at the contact differs depending on whether the fuse is blown or not blown. If there is electrical continuity at the contacts, the ink cartridge is installed with ink (new ink cartridge that can be used), while if it is electrically non-conductive, the ink cartridge is not installed or is installed Even so, it can be determined that the old cartridge is ink empty.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, even if the fuse is blown, if the contact is short-circuited with a conductive material such as aluminum foil, the conduction state of the ink cartridge can be restored in a pseudo manner. It is determined that the ink is present (a new ink cartridge that can be used).
[0007]
In addition, the ink in the ink cartridge is set with physical properties such as viscosity and surface tension so as to exhibit excellent print quality in the print head to which the ink cartridge is mounted, and does not block or damage the print head. It is composed of components, and an arbitrary ink is filled in the empty ink cartridge on the user side. Further, as described above, the contact is short-circuited with aluminum foil or the like, and is mounted on the inkjet printer again. In this case, there is a problem that not only the print quality is deteriorated but also the print head is damaged early.
[0008]
Therefore, it is also proposed to install a memory in which an identification code is stored in the ink cartridge so that the ink jet printer does not operate with such an invalid ink cartridge, and to manage the identification code and the remaining amount of ink on a one-to-one basis. Has been. According to this, it is difficult to use an improper ink cartridge, but it is basically a consumable item, and mounting a memory on a disposable ink cartridge will significantly increase the cost of the ink cartridge. There was a problem.
[0009]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and is used in an ink jet printer capable of accurately and inexpensively detecting the proper mounting of an ink cartridge and the remaining amount of ink, and the ink jet printer. It is an object to provide an ink cartridge.

[0082]
When determining the state of the internal conduction path 2b2, the switches S3 and S4 are always opened, and the voltage appearing at the detection point B is L regardless of the state of the internal conduction path 2b2. When the detection voltage is applied in the forward direction, the voltages are L, L, and L at the detection points A, B, and C. When the detection voltage is applied in the reverse direction, the voltages are L, L, and H at the detection points A, B, and C. 【The invention's effect】
According to the ink jet printer of the present invention, the ink cartridge Continuity limiting means By Between two independent contacts Is made conductive or non-conductive and Continuity limiting means The direction of the current flowing through is limited to one direction by the current direction limiting means. Therefore, Having conduction limiting means and current direction limiting means Of internal conduction path Conduction state The Two independent Depending on the direction of the current flowing through the internal conduction path Continuity The state can be obtained. That is, when the contacts provided in the ink cartridge are short-circuited, the direction of current flow is bidirectional. On the other hand, when the internal conduction path is conducted, current flows only in the direction of 1. Therefore, even in the same conduction state, there is an effect that the ink jet printer main body can be discriminated whether the contact is caused by the short circuit of the contact or the conduction path of the internal conduction path.
Inkjet printer Body The printer side contact is electrically connected to the contact of the ink cartridge. Then, a voltage is applied through the printer-side contact by the detection voltage applying means so that a current is selectively passed through the internal conduction path of the ink cartridge in the
Further, a voltage higher than the voltage applied by the detection voltage applying unit is applied by the high voltage applying unit to make the internal conduction path non-conductive. Therefore, by high voltage application means Continuity limiting means There is an effect that a high voltage can be applied to the non-conductive state accurately and easily.
[0100]
Many ink jet printer bodies recognize that ink is present (a legitimate ink cartridge) if the ink cartridge is in a conductive state via a contact. In such a case, an illegal ink cartridge in which the used ink cartridge is refilled with ink and the contacts are short-circuited may be used. However, since the obtained electrical state is different between the state where the contacts are short-circuited and the state where the internal conduction path is conducted, such an illegal ink cartridge can be easily identified.
[0101]
Also, Since the conduction limiting means becomes non-conductive when blown, Continuity But Unrecoverable Composed. Therefore There is an effect that the internal conduction path once cut off does not recover conduction and can be in a non-conducting state constantly.
[0102]
For example, when the internal conduction path is made non-conductive according to the ink remaining amount in the ink cartridge, the non-conduction in the internal conduction path becomes an index for identifying the ink remaining quantity. In a normal use state, the remaining amount of ink in the ink cartridge does not increase (recover), so that the remaining amount of ink (the state of the ink cartridge) can be managed by this non-conduction. Here, once the disconnected continuity is recovered, the reliability of identifying the remaining amount of ink is reduced, and unauthorized use such as ink addition is facilitated. But, Continuity limit Since the means can cut the internal conduction path unrecoverably, it is possible to improve the reliability of identification of the remaining amount of ink and to make it difficult to use the ink cartridge illegally.
[0103]
Also, Continuity limit Means and current direction limiting means Inside If multiple part conduction paths are provided, Duplicate Each of the continuity of the number of the internal conduction paths changes (becomes non-conductive) under a predetermined condition, so that the state change (the current state (information) of the ink cartridge) can be indicated. Therefore, there is an effect that the ink cartridge can be managed easily and carefully.
[0104]
Also, the internal conduction path has a current direction limiting means and Continuity limit Means Because it is configured , Inside When the part conduction path is in a conduction state, only a current in one direction flows, and when it is in a non-conduction state, only a state in which no current flows is formed. Therefore, the internal conduction path Continuity If the state is detected, there is an effect that a case where the internal conduction path is in a conduction state and a current flows in both directions can be determined as a short-circuit state.
[0105]
Also, Continuity limit If the means is a fuse, there is an effect that it can be produced at low cost.
[0106]
Further, if the current direction limiting means is a diode, there is an effect that it can be produced at low cost.
[0107]
[0108]
[0109]
Further, if the high voltage applying means applies a high voltage for making the internal conduction path non-conductive when the ink remaining amount of the ink cartridge becomes a value indicating ink empty, Internal conduction path conduction There is an effect that the state can be associated with the remaining amount of ink. This Internal conduction path of Continuity The state can be used as an index of the remaining amount of ink.
[0110]
Further, if the high voltage application means applies a high voltage to make the internal conduction path non-conductive when the ink cartridge is mounted on the ink jet printer, it is determined whether the ink cartridge is unused or used. There is an effect that can be.
[0111]
In addition, the ink cartridge is detachably provided, is selectively turned off by the high voltage applying means for each internal conduction path of the ink cartridge, and a voltage is applied bidirectionally for each internal conduction path. Determine the state, and the conduction state of each internal conduction path of If the inkjet printer is controlled from the combination, there is an effect that the inkjet printer can be controlled by easily determining a plurality of states of the ink cartridge.
[0112]
In addition, there is an effect that the ink jet printer can be controlled by easily determining a plurality of states of the ink cartridge, that is, the remaining amount of ink, whether the ink cartridge is unused, or used.
