【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は一般的に、流体媒質におけるキャビテーション事象の検出に関し、さらに詳しくは、超音波洗浄容器における音響キャビテーションを監視するためのセンサに関する。

【従来の技術】
超音波洗浄容器は、滅菌をはじめとする一範囲の洗浄用途に産業界中で使用されている。洗浄される物体は、単一または一群のトランスデューサによって生成される音場を含む水浴内に配置される。トランスデューサは一般的に、洗浄される品目、要求される洗浄の程度等々によって、約20kHzから100kHzの周波数範囲内の音響駆動場を生じる。

音場によって発生する機械的振動は、媒質中に気泡運動を誘発する。これは、一般的に不純物など液体中の弱点に関連付けられる、液体媒質中に溶解した小さい気泡から生じる。キャビテーションとは、気泡の振動、膨張、および崩壊を記述するために使用される用語である。気泡の振動および崩壊自体が、気泡運動の詳細によって異なるが音響駆動場よりずっと高いMHzの周波数範囲に充分に達する周波数範囲を包含する成分の音波を発生する。また気泡は破局的に崩壊して衝撃波を発生することもあり、これらは、崩壊によって発生する水の噴流と共に、部品の超音波洗浄が行われる一般的なメカニズムである。キャビテーションの程度は、トランスデューサへの電気的駆動力の大きさを調整し、それにより浴内で発生する音圧に影響を及ぼすことによって、変化させることができる。

キャビテーションセンサであって、
20kHzから100kHzの範囲の周波数を透過させ、キャビテーションに起因する1MHzを超える周波数を減衰させる円筒状の超音波吸収体(20)と、
前記円筒状の超音波吸収体(20)内に設けられた円筒状の圧電素子(30)とからなり、
前記円筒状の圧電素子(30)が、前記キャビテーションセンサのセンサ容積の境界を決定することを特徴とするものである。

前記円筒状の超音波吸収体(20)の長手方向の軸に沿って設けられるコア(80)を含み、
前記コア(80)が、20kHzから100kHzの範囲の周波数を透過させることを特徴とするものである。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明の一態様に従って、圧電素子および導管を実質的に閉囲する超音波吸収性被覆を含むキャビテーションセンサを提供する。導管は圧電素子によって定められる境界を含み、超音波吸収性被覆は音響駆動場の周波数に対して実質的に透過的である。

【実施例】
本発明の様々な実施形態を以下で、単なる例として添付の図面を参照しながら説明する。

図1、図2、および図3に関連して、図示するセンサ10の実施形態は、洗浄容器内に配置するように意図されている。センサ10は圧電材料30の円筒を基礎にしており、その外側は、例えばゴムまたはポリウレタンなどのポリマー材から形成された超音波吸収体20で被覆される。最善の結果のためには、超音波吸収体20は、洗浄容器内で使用する媒質のそれと充分によく一致する音響インピーダンスを持つ必要がある。吸収体20は(厚さが2または3mmの比較的薄い層の場合でも)1MHzを超える周波数の超音波を非常によく減衰するが、20kHzから80kHzの範囲の周波数は事実上透過する。

これらの材料の利点は、それらが圧電センサの片側で、円筒形センサの外部で起きる気泡の崩壊によって発生する音響信号からそれを遮蔽する被覆として使用できることである。これは、圧電膜を保護するため、およびセンサ表面におけるキャビテーション気泡崩壊によって生じる信号が応答を抑制するおそれがあるので、それらを除去するためにも役立つ。

センサ10の軸に実質的に平行に中心部を貫通して走っているのは、円筒内腔または導管25である。使用中、すなわちセンサを試験時に流体内に浸漬したときに、内腔の大きさが流体媒質の体積を画定する。流体媒質は一般的に水であるが、他の流体媒質とすることができる。

最大限の応答は、センサの軸方向の長さを延長する同軸たばこ形領域に限定される。放射方向の応答は急速に減衰し、減衰率は駆動周波数の増加と共に増大する。センサの軸に沿って、応答はほぼ一定である。軸外応答はずっと低くなるが、圧力の逆放射方向の低下のため、圧電材料30によって画定される円筒の外縁に向かって増加する傾向がある。

コヒーレンスを除去するため、および場における空間的変動を平滑化するために、円筒の中心に音響透過的な材料のコア円筒を配置することができる。

図4および図5は、キャビテーションセンサの別の実施形態を示す。ここでは、超音波吸収体80の追加同軸コアがセンサ75に含まれる。このコアは、外側被覆20と同様に、実質的に音響駆動周波数に対して同様に透過的である。頂板90に加えて、このセンサ構造を支持するために底板95も装備される。流体媒質が導管85にアクセスできるようにするために、頂板90および底板95の両方に口81、82、83、および84が含まれる。

単一気泡事象に対する強い軸方向の応答(上述した通り)は、軸外事象の強い位相相殺のためである。コア80を含めることにより、このコヒーレンスを除去することができ、空間的変動を有利に平滑化することができる。

図6および図7は、キャビテーションセンサの別の実施形態を示す。内側コア80は、外側圧電性被覆30と同心である。導管105は、円筒形超音波吸収体20によって境界を定められる。頂上板100は流体媒質口101および102を含み、底板110には対応する出口103および104が含まれる。この実施形態では、接続ロッド50(前置増幅器(図示せず)を含む)は、頂上板の中心点でセンサに取り付けられる。

圧電性膜測定
キャビテーション崩壊によって生成される高周波信号(衝撃波)を捕獲するために、圧電性膜の帯域幅はできるだけ広くする必要がある。

多種多様な材料を試験し、それらの感度を決定するために行った測定を以下に説明する。

入手可能な様々な圧電材料の感度の数字を得るために、新規および既存のトランスデューサを発生源として使用し、一連の測定を行った。必要な周波数で5サイクルバーストを用いてこれらを駆動し、一般的に数百kPaのピークツーピーク音圧を生成した。校正済みの9μmの2層膜ハイドロホンを用いて、500kHzから5MHzの周波数範囲にわたって空間分布および音響パルス情報を得た。次に、置換技術を使用して、調査した材料から生産されたセンサを音場内の同じ位置に配置し、ハイドロホンの測定値から計算された既知の音圧に対する生成電圧の比率から感度を計算した。適切な場合、ケーブルの負荷および空間的平均化について補正を行った。

RG174ケーブルおよびMCXコネクタに対し銀導電塗料を使用して、接続を行った。円筒形センサを前置増幅器に接続し、「ギャップ」をトランスデューサに向けて垂直方向に保持した状態で、遠距離音場に配置した。装置が円筒の両側から信号を発生していることを示す応答が見られ、時間領域トレースの第1パルスは、以前に作成されたポイントセンサで見られたものと類似しており、第2信号はより複雑であり、おそらく標本抽出した大きい領域にわたって多少の位相相殺があることを示した。しかし、信号は雑音が非常に多かった。

多少の遮蔽が得られることを期待して、多少のニスを使用して円筒を絶縁し、次いでニッケル遮蔽エアゾールスプレーで被覆した。音場に配置したときに、雑音レベルが約30%低下し、これは部分的に成功したようであった。

キャビテーション信号に対するセンサの応答を定性的に調べるために、中で音響トランスデューサが750kHzで作動している、水道水を満たしたタンク内に円筒を配置した。10Wを超える電力で低調波成分(375kHz)によって示される可視的キャビテーション活動が発生したが、1−4MHzの範囲で広帯域白色雑音の増加が観察されたことがより有益であった。信号レベルには、ビームに対するセンサの相対位置の関数としての系統的な傾向は認められなかった。

試験した圧電材料の標本計算は、低MHz周波数での値より50%高い9MHzにおける鋭い共振まで、感度の平滑な増加を示した。30mm×15mmの市販の装置を上述の音場で定性的に試験し、薄膜に期待される0.5−20MHzの範囲にわたって容易に測定可能な信号が発生した。センサをタンクに入れたときに、キャビテーション信号も観察された。

別の実施例では、おそらくPerspexTMから作成した内側巻枠の周囲に薄膜を巻き付けることができる。図2の図を参照すると、この実施例は巻枠として作動する追加の薄壁コアを装備することができる。

- キャビテーションセンサであって、
20kHzから100kHzの範囲の周波数を透過させ、キャビテーションに起因する1MHzを超える周波数を減衰させる円筒状の超音波吸収体(20)と、
前記円筒状の超音波吸収体(20)内に設けられた円筒状の圧電素子(30)とからなり、
前記円筒状の圧電素子(30)が、前記キャビテーションセンサのセンサ容積の境界を決定することを特徴とするキャビテーションセンサ。 - 前記円筒状の超音波吸収体(20)の長手方向の軸に沿って設けられるコア(80)を含み、
