印字ハンマにより印刷を行うインパクトラインプリンタにおいて、印刷時の打撃音並びにそれに起因する騒音の低減要求が多い。これらの音を小さくするためには、打撃音そのものを小さくする、または、プリンタ筐体内部に設けられた吸音部材や音源を囲う外装カバーによって打撃音を封じ込めるという方法が考えられる。しかし、印刷時の打撃音は機器の基本印刷性能、特に印刷速度や印字力(印刷物の濃度)と密接な関係にあり、打撃音自体を低減することは難しく、一般的には後者の方法を用いることが多かった。

上記課題を解決するため、本発明では、インパクト式の印字ハンマを使用して印刷を行うラインプリンタで、印刷用紙を収納可能な印刷機構部設置用の台座部分と、印刷機構部を収納する外装カバーとから構成されるラインプリンタの筐体において、前記台座部分の上部の一端と他端とにガイドレールを設け、前記外装カバーは前記ガイドレールに沿ってスライド可能な2つの長手係合部を備えることを特徴とする。
