【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus having a fixing device that fixes an unfixed toner image on a transfer material by a heating roller, a pressure roller, a heating belt, and the like.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile, etc., a heat roller method and a belt method are often used as a fixing device for heat-fixing a transfer material carrying a toner made of heat-meltable resin. Yes.
[0003]
A heat roller type fixing device is composed of a heating roller having a heat source such as a halogen heater inside and a pressure roller in pressure contact with the heating roller. By passing the transfer material, the toner image carried on the transfer material is heated and fixed.
[0004]
In the belt method, a transfer material for holding an unfixed toner image is fed so that the toner image surface side faces the surface of an endless fixing belt maintained in a predetermined temperature range, and the fixing belt is sandwiched. The transfer material is pressed against the fixing belt with a pressure roller or the like disposed opposite to the toner image on the transfer material via the heating and pressure action of the fixing belt and the pressure roller. Heat and fix.
[0005]
However, in the above-mentioned fixing method, after the start of paper feeding, the low temperature member is heated or the amount of heat is lost to obtain a temperature gradient necessary for heat conduction. The temperature of the member to be heated decreases, the glossiness of the toner image decreases, and in the worst case, fixing failure occurs. Fixing failure can be improved by raising the temperature at the start of fixing, but raising the temperature causes problems such as shortening the life of the roller or the like and causing fluctuations in glossiness of the toner image.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an image forming apparatus that maintains stable image glossiness and fixing strength by changing conditions relating to the number of transfer materials that pass through the fixing device per unit time. The purpose is to provide.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The above object is achieved by the following configuration.
[0008]
(1) In an image forming apparatus having a fixing device for fixing an unfixed toner image on a transfer material by pressurizing and heating, the transfer material passing through the fixing device is kept constant at the time of continuous fixing, and continuous fixing is started. And a transfer material conveyance control unit that gradually decreases the interval of the transfer material passing through the fixing device according to the time measured by the time measurement. Device (first invention).
[0009]
(2) In an image forming apparatus having a fixing device for fixing an unfixed toner image on a transfer material by pressurizing and heating, the transfer material passing through the fixing device is kept constant at the time of continuous fixing, and continuous fixing is started. And a transfer material conveyance control means for gradually shortening the interval of the transfer material passing through the fixing device in accordance with the number of prints counted by the print number counting means. An image forming apparatus (second invention).

[0034]
The present invention has been made to avoid such inconvenience.
According to the first aspect of the present invention, the interval between the first and second transfer materials (hereinafter also referred to as the paper interval) is determined according to the time measured from the start of continuous fixing by the time measuring means while keeping the transfer material conveyance speed constant. ) Longer than the rating (standard), the interval between the second and third sheets is made shorter than the interval between the first and second sheets, and then the third, fourth, etc. gradually. In this method, the paper interval is narrowed to be close to the rated paper interval, and is returned to the rated paper interval after a predetermined number of sheets. Here, the starting point of time measurement from the start of continuous fixing is when the image forming operation is started, when the first transfer material carrying an unfixed image enters the fixing device, or when the first sheet is fixed. An appropriate time may be selected depending on the configuration of the control device and the clock measuring device, such as when the device is discharged from the device. That is, the shortage of heat supply can be resolved by controlling the transfer material conveyance so that the paper interval is gradually shortened according to the elapsed time from the start of continuous fixing.
[0035]
About the above, the result of having conducted experiment for confirmation is described below.
Heating roller diameter: 50 mm, heating roller thickness: 1.5 mm, belt support roller diameter: 30 mm, belt support roller elastic layer thickness: 5 mm, halogen heater: 1.2 kW, fixing belt rated speed: 300 mm / second In the experiment, the glossiness change could be eliminated by reaching the rated paper interval after 2 minutes.
[0036]
According to the second aspect of the invention, the interval between the first and second sheets is determined from the rating (standard) according to the number of prints fixed from the start of continuous fixing by the number-of-printing measurement means while keeping the transfer material conveyance speed constant. Increase the length and make the interval between the second and third sheets shorter than the interval between the first and second sheets, and then gradually reduce the interval between the third and fourth sheets. The above shortage of heat supply is resolved by controlling the transfer material to gradually shorten the paper interval according to the method of returning to the rated paper interval after a predetermined number of sheets, that is, the number of prints from the start of continuous fixing. it can.
[0037]
In order to shorten the time according to the elapsed time after the start of the fixing operation or the increase in the number of prints, the correspondence between the elapsed time and the paper interval or the number of prints and the paper interval is stored in the control unit B1 as a table or a conversion formula program. The paper interval is changed by a command from the control unit B1 having the program corresponding to the measured time or the number of prints.
[0038]
In the first and second inventions, the time or the number of prints until the rated paper interval is returned is determined by the heat capacity, thermal conductivity, heater capacity, and paper passing speed of each member of the fixing device. Fold into the program.
[0039]
It is more desirable to select information such as the heat capacity (transfer material thickness and size) of the transfer material to be passed and to provide control means to change the rate of shortening the paper interval (if the transfer material is thick) (Returns to the rated paper interval over a long period of time or the number of paper passes from the start of fixing).
[0040]
The third invention is a method for controlling the interval of the transfer material passing through the fixing device based on the detected temperature.
[0041]
This is not a predictive control as described above, but a contact temperature sensor 49 (see FIG. 2) is placed in front of the pressurization region to detect the temperature of the fixing belt and prevent the paper interval from falling below a predetermined temperature. It is a method to control. In such a configuration, the rated paper interval is not reached if the sum of the heat taken away by the transfer material and the heat released to the surroundings by the fixing device is larger than the supply power of the
[0042]
The fourth invention has a mode in which the paper interval of the transfer material after the start of continuous fixing is kept constant according to the rating (standard), and a mode in which the paper interval of the transfer material is changed after the start of continuous fixing. In this method, control means for switching between the two modes is provided to maintain a predetermined image quality. In this case, it is possible to select a mode that operates at the paper interval of the rated value immediately after the start of conventional continuous fixing, and does not require high gloss control, and if there is no problem if a certain degree of fixing strength is obtained, higher production is possible. Sex can be obtained. The mode may be selected by sending a signal together with an input from the main body operation unit or an image output command.
[0043]
As described above, the paper interval control command in the description of the first to fourth aspects of the invention is preset according to the elapsed time detected from the start of continuous fixing, the number of prints to be fixed, or the detected temperature. It is assumed that it is emitted from the control unit B1 according to the program.
[0044]
Further, in order to improve the image glossiness, control means for changing the pressure of the
[0045]
In summary, according to the present invention, the influence of the first sheet immediately after the start of paper feeding to the fixing device is the largest, so the paper interval from the second sheet is increased, and then the third sheet, the fourth sheet,・ It is characterized in that changes in fixing property and glossiness can be further reduced by gradually reducing the paper interval to the rated paper interval.
[0046]
In the present embodiment, the belt-type fixing device has been described. However, by performing the same control in a fixing device that forms and fixes a pressure region only by a roller pair (a heat roller and a pressure roller pair), Stable glossiness and fixing strength can be obtained.
