BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an exposure head and an image forming apparatus using the exposure head, for example, an exposure head in which light emitting portions made of organic EL light emitting elements are arranged in an array on a transparent substrate, and image formation miniaturized using the exposure head. It relates to the device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, and a fax machine using an electrophotographic method, a laser scanning optical system is generally used as an optical writing unit (exposure unit).
[0003]
Under such circumstances, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 11-138899 proposes a method of integrating organic EL light emitting elements on a single chip to eliminate variations in light emission characteristics and to reduce costs.
[0004]
In Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-238333, an organic EL light emitting element and a light amount sensor for measuring the light emission amount are arranged in an array on the same substrate to constitute an exposure head, thereby preventing density unevenness due to a decrease in light emission amount. Things have been proposed.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As shown in these conventional examples, the light emitted from the light emitting portion of the organic EL light emitting element is incident on the transparent substrate and is emitted from the transparent substrate surface opposite to the surface on which the light emitting portion is provided. At this time, as shown in FIG. 16, when the light beam is emitted from the
[0006]
In the case of the conventional Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-238333, since the light amount sensor for measuring the light emission amount from the light emitting unit is arranged on the same plane as the light emitting unit, the only detectable light ray is the above-mentioned light ray c, and the detected light amount is There is a problem that it is insufficient and cannot be detected with high accuracy, and density unevenness cannot be prevented with high accuracy.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in view of such problems of the prior art, and an object thereof is to detect the amount of light in an exposure head in which light emitting portions such as organic EL light emitting elements are arranged in an array on a transparent substrate. By installing the means on the end face of the transparent substrate and guiding the light beam totally reflected by the emission side surface of the transparent substrate to the light amount detecting means, the light amount of the light emitting element is efficiently detected and the light amount detection accuracy is improved. is there.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In the exposure head of the present invention that achieves the above object, a plurality of light emitting portions are formed in an array on a transparent substrate, and a modulated light beam from the light emitting portions is projected onto the image carrier to form a predetermined pattern on the image carrier. In the exposure head in which the light beam from the light emitting unit is emitted to the image carrier side through the transparent substrate,
The transparent substrate is configured by a substantially flat surface in which a surface on which the light emitting unit is formed and a surface from which light is emitted is substantially parallel, and detects the amount of light emitted from the light emitting unit on the end surface in the sub-scanning direction of the transparent substrate. One or a plurality of light quantity detection means to be provided,
The distance from the light emitting unit to the nearest light quantity detection means is arranged so that at least some of the light emitting units are different from other light emitting units,
The ratio Pg n / Ph n (n between a detected light intensity value Ph n in the detected light intensity value Pg n at the corresponding position the light amount detecting means of the image bearing member when the light is emitted each said light emitting portion of the n-th A storage means for storing the light emitting unit) as a correction coefficient;
By multiplying the correction coefficient Pg n / Ph n by the value detected by the light amount detecting means, the light amount at the corresponding position of the image carrier of each of the light emitting units is obtained.
[0009]
In this case, it is effective that the light emitting part is a light emitting part of an organic EL light emitting element.
[0013]
Further, the light quantity detection means can be provided at a plurality of positions on the end surface of the transparent substrate in the sub-scanning direction.
In this case, it is desirable to use a value obtained by adding the detected light amount values at the light amount detecting means at a plurality of positions as the detected light amount value Ph n at the light amount detecting means.
[0014]
In addition, it is desirable that the end surface of the transparent substrate on which the light amount detection means is not provided be light reflective.
[0015]
Further, on the basis of the correction coefficient Pg n / Ph n, it is preferable to perform the light emitting portion of each of the light amount correction.
[0017]
According to the present invention, at least two or more image forming stations each including a charging unit, any one of the above exposure heads, toner developing unit, and transfer unit are provided around the image carrier, and the transfer medium passes through each station. And a tandem color image forming apparatus that performs color image formation.
[0018]
In this case, it is effective to apply the exposure head of the present invention to a case where a heat fixing means for heat fixing the toner image transferred from the transfer medium onto the recording medium is provided.
[0020]
In the present invention, the transparent substrate is constituted by a substantially plane in which the surface on which the light emitting part is formed and the surface on which the light is emitted are substantially parallel, and the surface other than the surface on which the light emitting part of the transparent substrate is formed and the surface on which the light is emitted. Since the light amount detecting means for detecting the light amount of the light emitted from the light emitting unit is provided at the position, it becomes possible to detect the light guided by totally reflecting the inside of the transparent substrate at the position of the light amount detecting means. As a result, the amount of detected light increases, and the amount of light can be measured with high accuracy. As a result, even if the light emission characteristics of the light emitting units vary or the light emitting units deteriorate, it is possible to control to obtain a uniform light emission amount distribution. In addition, the number of light quantity detection means arranged corresponding to the respective light emitting units can be remarkably reduced, so that the configuration of the exposure head can be simplified and the cost can be reduced.

【The invention's effect】
As is apparent from the above description, according to the exposure head of the present invention and the image forming apparatus using the same, the transparent substrate is constituted by a substantially flat surface in which the surface on which the light emitting portion is formed and the surface on which the light beam is emitted are substantially parallel. Since the light amount detecting means for detecting the light amount of the light emitted from the light emitting portion is provided at a position other than the surface where the light emitting portion of the transparent substrate is formed and the surface from which the light is emitted, the position of the light amount detecting means Thus, it is possible to detect the light guided by being totally reflected in the transparent substrate, and the amount of detected light is increased to enable highly accurate light amount measurement.
