Claims (4)
- 多数のセグメント領域に分割される液晶表示パネルと、
前記液晶表示パネルのデータラインを駆動するためのデータ駆動部と、
前記液晶表示パネルのゲートラインを駆動するためのゲート駆動部と、
前記データ駆動部に入力されるデータを変調するためのデータ変調器と、
外部から入力される画素データの明るさ情報信号をもとに位置別の明るさを計算してランプ駆動制御信号データを供給する映像分析部と、
前記映像分析部で分析された位置別の明るさをもとに前記液晶表示パネルの上に分割された多数のセグメント領域のそれぞれに対応される多数のランプを駆動するためのランプ駆動部と、
外部から入力された画素データをデータ変調器を経てデータ駆動部に供給して、外部から入力された画素データの明るい情報信号を映像分析部に供給して、外部から入力された制御信号に応答してゲート駆動部、データ駆動部及び映像分析部のそれぞれを制御するためのゲート制御信号、データ制御信号及び映像分析制御信号を発生するタイミングコントローラと、を具備して
前記ランプ駆動部は前記画素データを受けて前記液晶表示パネルのセグメント領域 別の輝度を計算してその計算の結果により、前記ランプのそれぞれを独立的に制御することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記ランプのそれぞれは前記液晶表示パネルの幅方向に沿って分割されることを特徴とする請求項1 記載の液晶表示装置。
- 多数のセグメント領域に分割される液晶表示パネルに外部から画素データの入力受ける段階と、
前記液晶表示パネルの多数のセグメント領域に供給される前記画素データを選擇的に変調する段階と、
外部から画素データの明るさ情報が映像分析部に入力されて位置別の明るさが計算される段階と、
前記映像分析部で計算された位置別の明るさをもとにランプ駆動部は多数のランプを駆動させる段階と、
前記液晶表示パネルの上で部分的に明るく表示されるべき第1領域と前記第1領域より低い明るさが表示されるべき第2領域を検出する段階と、
前記第2領域の明るさが暗くなるように前記液晶表示パネルの上に光を照射するためのランプを制御して前記第1領域の明るさを相対的に高める段階と、を含み、
前記データを変調する段階は、前記データ値を変調して光透過率を調節することで同一のランプにより照射される前記液晶表示パネルの上のセグメント領域内での輝度差を可能にして、
前記第1領域の明るさを相対的に高める段階は、前記画素データの入力を受けて前記液晶表示パネルの位置別の輝度を計算してその計算結果によって前記ランプのそれぞれを独立的に制御することを特徴とする液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記ランプのそれぞれは前記液晶表示パネルの幅方向に沿って分割されることを特徴とする請求項3記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
