○:1cc/atm・m2・day以上10cc/atm・m2・day未満
△:10cc/atm・m2・day以上15cc/atm・m2・day未満

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a technology of a gas barrier film in which at least one surface of a transparent base film is coated with a gas barrier layer made of a partially neutralized polyacrylic acid, and in particular, irradiation of an electron beam to the gas barrier layer. This relates to a technique for improving the oxygen barrier property of the gas barrier layer.
[0002]
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Laminate film is the most common packaging material in various fields including food. The film used as a base material is a transparent plastic material, and the thickness thereof is, for example, about 12 to 100 μm and has flexible characteristics. As a plastic material used for the base film, there are various materials such as polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate, low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, unstretched polypropylene, stretched polypropylene, unstretched nylon, stretched nylon, cellophane and the like.
Since it is a packaging material, a gas barrier property and transparency are basically required for the laminate film and its base film. The gas barrier property is a property that blocks moisture (water vapor), oxygen, and the like, and is a property that is necessary for maintaining the content under high dryness and for preventing the content from being altered. In addition, transparency is a property necessary to make the contents visible from the outside. In view of this transparency, a method using an opaque layer such as a general aluminum laminate cannot be used.
[0003]
Although the plastic material itself constituting the base film also has a certain degree of gas barrier properties, it is not sufficient. Therefore, in order to enhance the gas barrier property of the base film without impairing the transparency, a method of forming a gas barrier layer having a gas barrier property higher than that of the base film on at least one surface of the base film is generally used. Taken. As the gas barrier layer, polyvinyl alcohol having excellent gas barrier properties is suitable. JP-A-62-167047 discloses that a polyvinyl alcohol film is used as the film material of the laminate film, and that the film is irradiated with an electron beam in order to further improve the gas barrier property. Another JP-A-6-143507 discloses a gas barrier property of a coating film by forming a polyvinyl alcohol coating film on a base film and irradiating it with an electron beam while the coating film is in a swollen state. Show that to increase. However, polyvinyl alcohol is highly dependent on humidity, and gas barrier properties tend to be greatly reduced due to moisture absorption under high humidity conditions.
[0004]
Problems to be Solved by the Invention
Therefore, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 7-102083 and 7-165942 disclose a portion of polyacrylic acid with respect to polyvinyl alcohol in order to eliminate the difficulty in using polyvinyl alcohol as a gas barrier layer or film. A technique is shown in which a layer or film is formed of a material mixed with a neutralized product, and the material is heat treated. In these techniques, the mixing ratio should be within a certain range, the degree of neutralization should not exceed 20% so as not to lower the oxygen gas barrier property, It is clarified that the heat treatment should be performed at a high temperature such as from ℃ to 300 ℃.
[0005]
However, these techniques are based on the premise that polyvinyl alcohol is used, and cannot be said to be a technique to escape from polyvinyl alcohol. Moreover, there is a problem that there are a plurality of factors to be defined such as the mixing ratio and heat treatment conditions, which is a little troublesome in terms of production management. From these points, the inventors focused on finding a new gas barrier layer that does not use polyvinyl alcohol.
Therefore, a first object of the present invention is to provide a film technology including a new gas barrier layer that does not use polyvinyl alcohol.
In addition, a second object of the present invention is to provide a technique capable of effectively improving oxygen barrier properties by electron beam irradiation.
[0006]
[Aspects of the Invention and Solution]
Also in this invention, the same plastic material as that described in the background section of the invention is used as the base film. On the other hand, in the present invention, as a material for the gas barrier layer, attention is focused on a partially neutralized product of polyacrylic acid, and a material having a specific neutralization degree described below or a material irradiated with an electron beam in a specific range is used. This is because polyacrylic acid or a partially neutralized product thereof is water-soluble, and a coating film can be easily formed using the solution, and it has excellent oxygen barrier properties under dry conditions. In practical use as a packaging material, it is necessary to have an oxygen barrier property that is not less than a predetermined value not only under dry conditions but also under conditions where the relative humidity is about 70%, for example.
From such a viewpoint, the following knowledge about the gas barrier properties (particularly oxygen barrier properties) of the partially neutralized polyacrylic acid was obtained through experiments.
The first is that the partially neutralized product of polyacrylic acid exhibits good oxygen barrier properties when the degree of neutralization n is in the range of 20 <n <40. In this regard, in the above-described prior art and the like, when the degree of neutralization n exceeds 20, the oxygen barrier property decreases, and the range exceeding 20 is excluded. The degree of neutralization is a value obtained by dividing the number of moles of carboxyl groups in neutralized polyacrylic acid by the number of moles of carboxyl groups in polyacrylic acid.
[0007]
Secondly, the partially neutralized product of polyacrylic acid further enhances the oxygen barrier property by electron beam irradiation with a prescribed dose. In this case, the gas barrier layer made of the partially neutralized product of polyacrylic acid can be applied as a sheet or film in addition to a coating film by coating. Preferably, the coating film by coating is also dried prior to electron beam irradiation. The thickness of the coating of the gas barrier layer should be about 0.5 to 10 μm, and should be at least large enough to penetrate the irradiated electron beam. If the gas barrier layer (coating) is in a dry state, it can be irradiated with an electron beam in a form in which a film containing it is wound on a roll, and stored before electron beam irradiation. You can also. However, it is also possible to perform electron beam irradiation in a state where the gas barrier layer coating is not completely dry.
[0008]
Regarding the second point, more specifically, when the dose by electron beam irradiation is 50 kGy to 200 kGy, and the neutralization degree n of the partially neutralized product of polyacrylic acid is 20 ≦ n ≦ 40, When the dose of electron beam irradiation is 60 kGy to 90 kGy and the neutralization degree n of the partially neutralized polyacrylic acid is 20 ≦ n ≦ 40, the coating of the gas barrier layer has a temperature of 23 ° C. and a relative humidity of Under the condition of 70%, the oxygen permeability is less than 10 cc / atm · m 2 · day and exhibits a good oxygen barrier property. Here, the numerical value of 200 kGy, which is the upper limit of electron beam irradiation, is determined from the possibility that the gas barrier layer may be decomposed when irradiation is performed further.
[0009]
The partially neutralized product of polyacrylic acid is a carboxylate obtained by partially neutralizing the carboxyl group of polyacrylic acid with an alkali. Examples of the alkali include typical sodium hydroxide, lithium hydroxide, Potassium hydroxide or the like can also be used.
[0010]
【Example】
Sodium hydroxide was added to the polyacrylic acid aqueous solution to prepare a plurality of polyacrylic acid sodium salt aqueous solutions (coating solutions) having different degrees of neutralization. Using each of these coating solutions, a gas barrier layer was coated on a polyethylene terephthalate film having a thickness of 25 μm with a wire bar and dried. The thickness of the gas barrier layer is 3 μm. The film on which the gas barrier layer was formed was irradiated with an electron beam at an accelerating voltage of 165 kV with various electron beam doses, and then oxygen permeated by an OX-TRAN TWIN type oxygen transient tester (manufactured by MODERN CONTROL). Degree (under conditions where the temperature is 23 ° C. and the relative humidity is 70%).
[0011]
Table 1 shows the measurement results. Among them, each symbol of ◎ ΔΔ × indicates the magnitude of oxygen permeability based on the following criteria.
◎: Less than 1 cc / atm · m 2 · day ○: Less than 1 cc / atm · m 2 · day Less than 10 cc / atm · m 2 · day △: More than 10 cc / atm · m 2 · day 15 cc / atm · m 2 · day ×: 15 cc / Atm · m 2 · day or more The oxygen permeability of the polyethylene terephthalate film alone as the base film is about 50 cc / atm · m 2 2 · day.
