【0036】
メモリ24は、RAM(Random Access Memory)およびROM(Read Only Memory)で構成された記憶部である。

【0143】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a drive pulseVoltageThe present invention relates to a drive pulse generation circuit used in an ink jet recording apparatus using a piezoelectric body whose volume is changed by applying.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The method of ejecting ink from an ink jet head that performs printing on a recording medium basically ejects ink from the tip of a nozzle provided in the ink jet head. The nozzle is provided at the bottom of each of the plurality of channels arranged in the inkjet head. Specifically, the channel is pressurized for a very short time, and the ink in the pressurized channel is ejected as a single ink droplet from a thin nozzle at the bottom of the channel.
[0003]
As a method of pressurizing the above channel, a drive pulseVoltage (hereinafter abbreviated as “drive pulse” where appropriate)There is known a method of generating pressure using a piezoelectric body which is an electrostrictive element whose volume is changed by applying. That is, it has a plurality of channels separated by the piezoelectric body, and the channels are expanded / contracted by selectively applying ejection drive pulses or non-ejection drive pulses to drive electrodes formed on both wall surfaces of the channels. The ink ejection operation is performed.
[0004]
By the way, the waveform of the drive pulse is not a square clock pulse, but a pulse having a voltage rising part (a gradually rising period) and a falling part (a gradually falling period) (hereinafter referred to as a trapezoidal pulse). Is preferable. This is because, in the rectangular pulse, current flows through the drive electrode and the peripheral circuit when it rises steeply and falls sharply, so that excess heat is generated by the resistance component of the common electrode and the peripheral circuit. . Here, if a trapezoidal pulse is applied, the rise and fall of the pulse are applied with a certain gradient. Therefore, the trapezoidal pulse does not cause a current to flow more concentratedly than the square pulse, and the heat loss of the drive electrode and its peripheral circuits can be reduced.
[0005]
As a method for generating the trapezoidal pulse, there is a method in which a plurality of types of voltages are prepared, the pulse voltage is raised stepwise when applying the pulse, and lowered stepwise when stopping the application. . In the case of an ink jet recording apparatus using a DC power supply, a DC-DC converter is generally used to increase the voltage.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, every time one kind of voltage is generated, one power supply circuit is required. That is, in the above conventional method, a plurality of power sources are required to generate a plurality of types of voltages, and there is a problem that a power supply circuit for performing the method becomes complicated. On the other hand, in the case of an ink jet recording apparatus using a DC power supply, a DC-DC converter for generating a high-voltage power supply is required. The DC-DC converter circuit itself is composed of a capacitor, a resistor, a coil, a switching transistor, and the like. In this case as well, there is a problem that the power supply circuit becomes complicated. As described above, if the circuit has a complicated configuration, there is a problem that a large loss occurs in the power supplied to the power supply circuit.
[0007]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and an object thereof is a drive pulse generation circuit used in an ink jet recording apparatus that performs printing on a recording medium by using an electromechanical conversion effect in a piezoelectric body. In other words, it is an object of the present invention to provide a drive pulse generation circuit capable of generating a plurality of continuously stable voltages with a simple configuration and an ink jet recording apparatus using the drive pulse generation circuit.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, a drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is a drive pulse generation circuit used in an ink jet recording apparatus that performs printing on a recording medium by using an electromechanical conversion effect in a piezoelectric body.As a reference potential, using a trapezoidal pulse waveform having a rising portion that is a period in which the voltage gradually increases and a falling portion that is a period in which the voltage gradually decreases,Input pulse generating means for generating an input pulse voltage;A rising waveform generating means for generating a driving pulse voltage having the rising portion; and a piezoelectric discharge means for discharging the electric charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body based on the reference potential. Is the aboveDrive pulse supply means for generating a drive pulse voltage by inputting the input pulse voltage and supplying the drive pulse voltage to the piezoelectric bodyIs includedAs the drive pulse supply means, a Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used, and the input pulse generation means is the input pulse generation means.Set the number of pulses, pulse width or frequency of the above input pulse voltageIt is characterized by that.
[0009]
The Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit has a configuration in which several combinations of rectifiers and capacitors are stacked, and when an alternating current is applied, the voltage is stepped for each cycle of the alternating current. This is a circuit that can generate a high voltage that is an integral multiple of the supplied voltage by boosting the voltage.
[0010]
In any of the above configurations,An arbitrary pulse train (input pulse) is input as an input pulse voltage to the Cockcroft-Walton power supply circuit. At the same time, the piezoelectric discharge means discharges the charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body based on the reference potential.
[0011]
In addition, according to each of the above configurations, the input pulse generating means generates an input pulse in which the number of pulses, the pulse frequency, or the pulse width is changed, and the Cockcroft-Walton power supply circuit The slope of the rising portion can be changed by inputting to the road. That is, the output waveform can be controlled by changing any of the above pulse conditions.
[0012]
for that reason,It is possible to transiently increase the output voltage of the Cockcroft-Walton power supply circuit. As a result, the drive pulse applied to the piezoelectric body can be output waveform having a rising portion with a simple configuration. CanAt the same time, if a target waveform having an arbitrary gradient is used as the reference potential, the drive voltage can be lowered at an arbitrary gradient. Therefore, the drive pulse applied to the piezoelectric body can be made into a trapezoidal output waveform having a rising portion and a falling portion with a simple configuration, and by changing the pulse conditions, it is possible to meet various conditions. It becomes possible to obtain a more appropriate drive pulse in response.
[0013]
That is, according to the above configuration, the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuitAnd trapezoidal pulse drive voltage generated by piezoelectric discharge meanscan do. Therefore, the drive pulse rises sharplyAnd will not fallHeat loss in the peripheral circuit of piezoelectric materialEven moreCan be suppressed.
[0014]
The drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is characterized in that, in addition to the above configuration, an initialization discharge means for discharging the charge of the capacitor included in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is further provided.
[0015]
According to the above configuration, after the driving pulse voltage is raised by the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit by the input pulse voltage, the capacitor charge is discharged by the initializing discharge means to initialize the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit. can do.
[0016]
In other words, in the above configuration, when the input pulse voltage is newly input by the initializing discharge means, the capacitor can be brought into a state in which no charge is accumulated. Therefore, in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit, The drive pulse voltage can be reliably raised based on the input pulse voltage input to. Therefore, it is possible to continuously generate a drive pulse voltage having a rising portion, and it is possible to perform accurate starting control even if the gradient of the rising portion is appropriately changed.
[0017]
In addition to the above configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is characterized in that the input pulse generation means changes the pulse condition by feeding back the drive pulse voltage.
[0018]
According to the above configuration, the input pulse generation means detects the drive pulse voltage and reflects it in the generation of the input pulse voltage. Therefore, an input pulse corresponding to the drive pulse can be generated, and the accuracy of the drive pulse voltage can be improved as compared with an open loop circuit.
[0019]
The drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is characterized in that, in addition to the above-described configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit further includes regenerative means for recovering charges accumulated in the piezoelectric body.
[0020]
According to the above configuration, the electric charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body can be recovered and returned to the DC power source by the regenerative unit. Therefore, the electric energy for driving the piezoelectric body is effectively used, and the power consumption of the drive pulse generation circuit can be reduced.
[0021]
In addition to the above configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is further characterized in that an inductance element is provided between the piezoelectric body and the regeneration means.
[0022]
According to the above configuration, even when the slope of the rising edge or the falling edge of the drive pulse voltage is arbitrarily changed, the potential change accompanying the rise / fall can be buffered. For this reason, even when a drive pulse voltage having a rising portion and a falling portion is applied to the piezoelectric body, it is possible to suppress or prevent a loss that occurs during application, and to further reduce the power consumption of the drive pulse generation circuit. It becomes possible.
[0023]
In addition to the above-described configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is configured such that the number of stages of the cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is n, and the capacitance of each capacitor included in the cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is represented by CC And the capacitance of the piezoelectric body is CP The following relational expression
CP ≧ 4CC / N
It is characterized by that.
[0024]
According to the above configuration, even when electric charge remains in the capacitor included in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit at the time of the previous driving, the piezoelectric body can absorb the electric charge, and the cockcroft-Walton type every time driving is performed. The power supply circuit can be initialized. Therefore, it is possible to reliably generate a predetermined drive pulse voltage even if an input pulse voltage that is different for each driving time is used.
[0025]
An ink jet recording apparatus according to the present invention includes a drive pulse generation circuit having the above-described configuration and an ink discharge nozzle using a piezoelectric body whose shape is changed by the action of electric energy, and outputs the drive pulse output from the drive pulse generation circuit. The ink is ejected by the action of pressure generated in the nozzle by being applied to the piezoelectric body.
[0026]
According to the above configuration, it is possible to generate a driving voltage of a pulse having at least a rising portion, preferably a trapezoidal pulse. Therefore, since the drive pulse does not rise or fall sharply, heat loss in the peripheral circuit of the piezoelectric body can be suppressed. In addition, the configuration of the drive pulse generation circuit can be simplified and the cost can be reduced. Thus, an ink jet recording apparatus that operates reliably with a simple configuration can be provided.
[0027]

A Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is known as a technique for increasing the voltage. However, as an example in which this Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used as a high-voltage power supply for an inkjet head, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-127409 A recording apparatus using a sensitive working medium is disclosed. The above publication uses a Cockcroft-Walton-type power supply circuit for a high-voltage power supply circuit of an ink jet recording apparatus using an electrosensitive working medium, and outputs one high-voltage voltage from one cockcroft-Walton-type power supply circuit. I am letting.
[0118]
In contrast, in the ink jet recording apparatus according to the present invention, first, a Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used for the power supply circuit of the ink jet recording apparatus using a piezoelectric body whose volume is changed by applying a drive pulse. In addition, in order to form a trapezoidal pulse, an input pulse is applied to the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit so that the pulse condition can be changed, thereby forming a rising portion, and a piezoelectric discharge means. It differs greatly in that it uses it to form a falling part.
[0119]
According to the above configuration, since the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is applied to the power supply circuit of the ink jet recording apparatus using the piezoelectric body, the output of the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used transiently, so that the specific voltage Can be efficiently taken out while gradually increasing the voltage (attainment voltage) that is an integral multiple of. Further, since the piezoelectric discharge means is used in combination with this Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit, a voltage that is an integral multiple of the specific voltage can be gradually lowered.
[0120]
In addition, the voltage rise and the ultimate voltage value can be easily realized simply by changing the pulse condition of the input pulse voltage, and the voltage drop can also be realized by chopping by the transistor and smoothing the inductance element. it can. Even if the voltage drop input is analog, the voltage is low and the current is small, so it can be easily created by integrating digital oscillation.
[0121]
Conventionally, a DC-DC converter has been used to extract a voltage higher than a specific voltage. Since the DC-DC converter is composed of a capacitor, a resistor, a coil, and a switching transistor, and the circuit is complicated, the power loss tends to increase. On the other hand, the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit used in the present invention basically has a very simple configuration including a capacitor and a rectifier, and therefore can suppress power loss as compared with a DC-DC converter. .
[0122]
Furthermore, according to the above configuration, the power supply circuit has a very simple circuit configuration in the power supply circuit of the ink jet recording apparatus that requires a plurality of voltages.
[0123]
That is, conventionally, in order to generate a plurality of specific voltages, it is necessary to prepare a plurality of unique power supply circuits. As a result, the power supply circuit of the ink jet recording apparatus has become very complicated. On the other hand, with the above configuration, a plurality of voltages can be extracted from a single power supply circuit, so that the power supply circuit has a very simple circuit configuration.
[0124]
The drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is configured by a simple diode without using an analog switch which is an active element. Therefore, compared to a charge pump used for driving a liquid crystal with a small load capacity, it can be suitably used for high-speed discharge driving of a piezoelectric body having a large capacity load such as an inkjet head drive. In particular, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is suitable for applying a pulsed large load current, and also suitable for avoiding output taps by parallel switching when a charge pump is used. .
[0125]
In particular, when a Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used, the first advantage is that the ultimate voltage can be slightly changed by changing pulse conditions such as the number of pulses, frequency, and pulse width. . In the charge pump, unless a separate adjustment circuit is provided, the voltage can be changed only at the originally set stage. Further, when the voltage is changed, the number of stages changes.
[0126]
A second advantage is that the Cockcroft-Walton power supply circuit can generate a voltage higher than that of the power supply. If a Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used, a high drive voltage can be generated while the power supply is low, but a charge pump cannot generate a drive voltage higher than the power supply voltage. Therefore, the present invention using the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit can be suitably used for an ink jet recording apparatus.
[0127]
As described above, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is a drive pulse generation circuit used in an ink jet recording apparatus that performs printing on a recording medium using the effect of electromechanical conversion in a piezoelectric body. A drive pulse supply means for generating an input pulse voltage and a drive pulse supply means for generating a drive pulse voltage by the input of the input pulse voltage and supplying the drive pulse voltage to the piezoelectric body. As an example, a Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used, and the input pulse generation means has at least a configuration that can change the pulse condition of the input pulse voltage.
[0128]
According to the above configuration, an arbitrary pulse train (input pulse) is input as an input pulse voltage to the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit. Therefore, it is possible to transiently increase the output voltage of the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit, and as a result, the drive pulse applied to the piezoelectric body can be generated with a simple configuration with an output waveform having a rising portion. It can be.
[0129]
That is, according to the above configuration, an input voltage of an arbitrary pulse train can be output as a rising waveform having an arbitrary gradient by the Cockcroft-Walton power supply circuit. For this reason, since the drive pulse does not rise sharply, heat loss in the peripheral circuit of the piezoelectric body can be suppressed.
[0130]
In the present invention, in addition to the above-described configuration, it is preferable that a piezoelectric discharge unit that discharges charges accumulated in the piezoelectric body based on a reference potential is further provided.
[0131]
According to the above configuration, the piezoelectric body discharge unit discharges the electric charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body based on the reference potential. Therefore, if a target waveform having an arbitrary gradient is used as the reference potential, the drive voltage can be lowered at an arbitrary gradient. As a result, by combining with the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit, the driving pulse applied to the piezoelectric body can be made into a trapezoidal output waveform having a rising portion and a falling portion with a simple configuration.
[0132]
That is, according to the above configuration, the driving voltage of the trapezoidal pulse can be generated by the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit and the piezoelectric discharge means. Therefore, since the drive pulse does not rise or fall sharply, it is possible to further suppress heat loss in the peripheral circuit of the piezoelectric body.
[0133]
In the present invention, in addition to the above configuration, the pulse condition changed in the input pulse generating means is preferably the number of pulses, the frequency, or the pulse width.
[0134]
According to the above configuration, the input pulse generating means generates an input pulse in which the number of pulses, the frequency of the pulse, or the width of the pulse is changed, and inputs the input pulse to the Cockcroft-Walton power supply circuit, thereby increasing the slope of the rising portion. Can be changed. That is, the output waveform can be controlled by changing any of the above pulse conditions. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a more appropriate drive pulse according to various conditions, and it is possible to further suppress heat loss in the peripheral circuit of the piezoelectric body.
[0135]
In the present invention, in addition to the above configuration, the input pulse generation means preferably changes the pulse condition by feeding back the drive pulse voltage. In addition to the above configuration, the input pulse generation unit further includes the above It is preferable that an initializing discharge means for discharging the electric charge of the capacitor included in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is provided. In addition to the above configuration, a regenerating means for recovering the electric charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body is further provided. In addition to the above configuration, it is preferable that an inductance element is provided between the piezoelectric body and the regenerating unit. In the present invention, it is preferable that the relational expression (1) is established.
[0136]
In addition, an ink jet recording apparatus according to the present invention includes the drive pulse generation circuit having the above configuration and an ink discharge nozzle using a piezoelectric body whose shape is changed by the action of electric energy, and the drive pulse generation circuit outputs the output. By applying a driving pulse to the piezoelectric body, ink is ejected by the action of pressure generated in the nozzle.
[0137]
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications are possible within the scope shown in the claims, and technical means disclosed in different embodiments are appropriately combined. Needless to say, embodiments obtained in this manner are also included in the technical scope of the present invention.
[0138]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention isAs a reference potential, using a trapezoidal pulse waveform having a rising portion that is a period in which the voltage gradually increases and a falling portion that is a period in which the voltage gradually decreases,Input pulse generating means for generating an input pulse voltage;A rising waveform generating means for generating a driving pulse voltage having the rising portion; and a piezoelectric discharge means for discharging the electric charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body based on the reference potential. Is the aboveDrive pulse supply means for generating a drive pulse voltage by inputting the input pulse voltage and supplying the drive pulse voltage to the piezoelectric bodyIs includedAs the drive pulse supply means, a Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is used, and the input pulse generation means is the input pulse generation means. The number of pulses, pulse width or frequency of the input pulse voltage is set.
[0139]
Therefore, in the above configuration, an input voltage of an arbitrary pulse train can be output as a rising waveform having an arbitrary gradient by the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit.Further, in the above configuration, the driving voltage of the trapezoidal pulse can be generated by combining the piezoelectric discharge means with the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit. Therefore, the drive pulse does not rise or fall sharply,Heat loss in the peripheral circuit of piezoelectric materialEven moreThere exists an effect that it can control.
[0140]
In the above configuration, the output waveform can be controlled by changing the pulse condition of any of the number of pulses, frequency, and pulse width. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a more appropriate drive pulse according to various conditions, so that the heat loss in the peripheral circuit of the piezoelectric body can be further suppressed.
[0141]
In addition to the above-described configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention further includes initialization discharge means for discharging the charge of the capacitor included in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit.
[0142]
Therefore, in the above configuration, when the input pulse voltage is newly input by the initializing discharge means, the capacitor can be brought into a state in which no charge is accumulated. Therefore, in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit, Based on the newly input pulse voltage, the drive pulse voltage can be reliably raised. Therefore, it is possible to continuously generate a drive pulse voltage having a rising portion, and to achieve accurate rising control even if the gradient of the rising portion is appropriately changed.
[0143]
In addition to the above configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention has a configuration in which the input pulse generation unit changes the pulse condition by feeding back the drive pulse voltage.
[0144]
Therefore, in the above configuration, the input pulse generation means detects the drive pulse voltage and reflects it in the generation of the input pulse voltage. For this reason, it is possible to generate an input pulse corresponding to the drive pulse, and there is an effect that the accuracy of the drive pulse voltage can be improved as compared with the open loop type circuit.
[0145]
The drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is configured to further include a regenerative unit that collects charges accumulated in the piezoelectric body in addition to the above configuration.
[0146]
Therefore, in the above configuration, the charge accumulated in the piezoelectric body can be recovered and returned to the DC power source by the regenerative unit. Therefore, the electric energy for driving the piezoelectric body is effectively used, and the drive pulse generating circuit can be reduced in power consumption.
[0147]
The drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention has a configuration in which an inductance element is further provided between the piezoelectric body and the regenerative means in addition to the above configuration.
[0148]
Therefore, in the above configuration, even when the slope of the rising edge or the falling edge of the drive pulse voltage is arbitrarily changed, the potential change associated with the rise / fall can be buffered. For this reason, it is possible to suppress or prevent loss that occurs during application, and it is possible to further reduce the power consumption of the drive pulse generation circuit.
[0149]
In addition to the above-described configuration, the drive pulse generation circuit according to the present invention is configured such that the number of stages of the cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is n, and the capacitance of each capacitor included in the cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit is represented by CC And the capacitance of the piezoelectric body is CP The following relational expression
CP ≧ 4CC / N
This is the configuration that holds.
[0150]
Therefore, in the above configuration, even if charges remain in the capacitor included in the Cockcroft-Walton type power supply circuit during the previous driving, the piezoelectric body can absorb the charges, and the Cockcroft-Walton is driven every time the driving is performed. The type power supply circuit can be initialized. Therefore, there is an effect that a predetermined drive pulse voltage can be surely generated even when an input pulse voltage which is different for each driving time is used.
[0151]
As described above, the ink jet recording apparatus according to the present invention includes the drive pulse generation circuit having the above-described configuration and an ink discharge nozzle using a piezoelectric body whose shape is changed by the action of electric energy. By applying an output drive pulse to the piezoelectric body, ink is ejected by the action of pressure generated in the nozzle.
[0152]
Therefore, in the above configuration, it is possible to generate a driving voltage of a pulse having at least a rising portion, preferably a trapezoidal pulse. Therefore, since the drive pulse does not rise or fall sharply, heat loss in the peripheral circuit of the piezoelectric body can be suppressed. In addition, the configuration of the drive pulse generation circuit can be simplified and the cost can be reduced. This produces an effect that an ink jet recording apparatus that operates reliably with a simple configuration can be provided.
