BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal image display device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventional three-dimensional image display devices have a right-eye polarization filter section and a left-eye polarization filter section whose polarization directions are orthogonal to the front left and right of the light source, and each light passing through each filter section is parallelized by a Fresnel lens. The liquid crystal display element is irradiated as light, and the polarizing filters on both sides of the liquid crystal display element are alternately arranged with linear polarizing filter line portions orthogonal to each other for each horizontal line, and the light source side and the observation side are opposed to each other. The linear polarization filter line section to be orthogonalized has the orthogonal polarization direction, and the liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display element alternates video information for the right eye and left eye for each horizontal line according to the light transmission lines of the two polarization filters. It was the composition which is displayed in. In addition, linear polarization filter line portions orthogonal to each other are arranged alternately for each horizontal line in the light source side polarization filter, and the observation side polarization filter is linearly polarized light having one linear polarization filter line portion of the light source side polarization filter. As a filter, the liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display element is configured to alternately display video information for the right eye and the left eye for each horizontal line in accordance with the light transmission line of the polarizing filter on the light source side (for example, Patent Document 1).

[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the above-described conventional image display device has a drawback that a viewing angle for observing an image is narrow because the light source is a so-called point light source provided only at the rear center of the liquid crystal panel. In addition, since a polarizing filter, a Fresnel lens, and the like are interposed as compared with a normal liquid crystal panel, an image becomes dark. In order to compensate for these, it is desired to increase the amount of light, but if a large amount of light is used, the amount of heat generated may increase. Moreover, if the housing of the image display device is opened to dissipate heat, crosstalk due to external light may occur, and the usage environment of the housing is limited. Also, when a light source having a large area is used, it causes crosstalk.
[0005]
An object of this invention is to provide the image display apparatus which solved such a problem.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a liquid crystal display panel capable of transmitting light irradiated from the rear, a light source that irradiates the liquid crystal display panel with light having a specific polarization, and light having a polarization orthogonal to the specific polarization. A first region that is disposed between the liquid crystal display panel and the light source and transmits light of the specific polarization, and a second region that transmits light of polarization orthogonal to the light of the specific polarization, A light source that emits light whose polarization is not specified, and light that is not specified for polarization is orthogonal to the light of the specific polarization and the specific polarization. In an image display device comprising: polarization means for outputting light with polarized light; and optical means for irradiating the liquid crystal display panel with light having different polarizations refracted in directions reaching the left and right eyes The light source is for stereoscopic image display. A linear light source that emits light in a linear manner with a light source portion at the center and a light source portion for expanding the visual field at both ends, and is arranged in the left-right direction with respect to the liquid crystal display panel. The central part of the source was composed of a plurality of point light sources arranged in a line, and both ends of the linear light source were composed of cold cathode tubes.
[0007]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect, the linear light source is a point light source disposed in the center so that the light emitting part is located at approximately the same distance from the center of the optical means; The cold-cathode tubes arranged at both ends are configured in a polygonal line shape or a curved line shape.
[0008]
According to a third invention, in the first and second inventions, a prism for increasing the luminous intensity by narrowing the irradiation range of the light source is disposed at the center of the linear light source.
[0009]
According to a fourth aspect, in the third aspect, the cold cathode fluorescent lamp is disposed so that a light emitting surface thereof is continuous with a light emitting surface of the prism.
[0010]
According to a fifth invention, in the first to fourth inventions, the linear light emitting source is housed in a housing having a polarizing filter attached to the front surface, and the terminal portion of the cold cathode tube is positioned outside the housing. Formed.
[0011]
In a sixth aspect based on the first aspect, the cold-cathode tube is a U-shaped tube, and the folded portion is directed toward the central portion, and the light emitting surface on the central portion side is narrow when the linear light-emitting source is viewed from the front. It formed so that it might become.
[0012]
【The invention's effect】
In the first aspect of the present invention, the light source unit for stereoscopic image display is set to the central portion, the light source unit for expanding the visual field is set to both ends, and light is emitted linearly. Using a light emitting source, composed of a plurality of point light sources arranged in a line at the center of the light emitting source, and composed of cold cathode fluorescent lamps at both ends of the light emitting source, while suppressing the amount of heat generated from the light emitting source, The amount of light from the central light source effective for stereoscopic viewing can be increased. In addition, the viewing angle can be widened at low cost.
[0013]
In the second aspect of the invention, the crosstalk in which the light directed to the left and right eyes leaks to the other is reduced by setting each light emitting portion to be approximately equidistant from the center of the optical means. Further, since the linear light-emitting source has a polygonal or curved configuration, the light source can be made compact even when the viewing angle is large.
[0014]
In the third aspect of the invention, since the prism for increasing the luminous intensity by narrowing the irradiation range of the light emitting source is disposed at the center of the light emitting source, the luminous intensity of the stereoscopic image can be further increased, and stereoscopic viewing is further facilitated.
[0015]
In the fourth aspect of the invention, the cold cathode tubes at both ends are arranged so that the light emitting surfaces thereof are continuous with the light exit surface of the prism of the central light source unit, so that the polarizing means can be easily attached. Further, it is possible to prevent light emission unevenness on the image display surface caused by the discontinuity of the light emitting surface and the occurrence of black bands.
[0016]
In the fifth invention, the emission source is housed in a housing having a polarizing filter mounted on the front surface, and the terminal portion of the cold cathode tube is formed so as to be located outside the housing, so that concentration of heat generation points can be avoided. Can be prevented from being affected by heat.
[0017]
In the sixth invention, the cold-cathode tube is a U-shaped tube, and the folded portion is directed toward the central portion, and the light emitting surface is formed so that the light emitting surface on the central portion side is narrowed when viewed from the front side. In addition to increasing the amount of light used, it is possible to provide an image display device with a large viewing angle that is easy to see by suppressing the occurrence of crosstalk at the stereoscopic viewing position by suppressing the width in the vertical direction from the center.
