FCOT(First Copy Output Time)に影響を与えない反面、原稿の状態や原稿の配置によって地肌量の検出が大きく影響を受けるという問題がある。
FCOT(First Copy

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus for detecting a background amount suitable for an input image of a document.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an apparatus such as a copying machine that reads an image of an original and outputs it to a predetermined sheet, image data that becomes the background is detected from the read image of the original, and the image data on the background is removed to make the original image on the background clear. It can be output.
[0003]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 4-313774 and 6-31364 disclose image processing apparatuses that create a histogram of image density and determine the amount of background. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 6-311359 and 7-322069 disclose image processing apparatuses that determine the amount of background in a predetermined area (line unit, block unit, etc.) in a document.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the image processing apparatus that performs such background amount detection has the following problems. In other words, the technique for detecting the background amount of a predetermined area of a document and estimating the entire background amount does not affect the FCOT (First Copy Output Time) because the detection process is fast, but on the other hand, the state of the document and the state of the document There is a problem that the detection of the amount of background is greatly affected by the arrangement. In particular, when performing background removal by detecting the amount of background for each line, there arises a disadvantage that fluctuation of the background removal amount appears in the output image.
[0005]
On the other hand, when detecting the background amount using the image data of the entire document, it is possible to detect the accurate background amount, but it is necessary to detect the background amount by pre-scanning and capturing the image of the entire document in advance. Will affect the FCOT.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention has been made to solve such problems. That is, the present invention is an image processing apparatus that detects the amount of background from an input image of a document, and divides the input image into regions having a predetermined size, and for each region divided by the region dividing unit. There is provided a background amount extracting means for extracting a background amount, and a background amount determining means for determining an entire background amount of the input image based on the background amount extracted by the background amount extracting means. If the entire background amount of the image cannot be determined, the background amount determining unit inputs the region division with different sizes by the region dividing unit and the background amount extraction for each region of different sizes by the background amount extracting unit. It is repeated until the total amount of the background of the skin can be determined.
[0007]
In the present invention, the input image is divided into regions having a predetermined size by the region dividing unit, and the background amount is detected for each of the divided regions by the background amount extracting unit. The background amount of the entire input image is determined based on the background amount detected for each region. In addition, if the background amount of the entire input image cannot be determined with the background amount for each region, the background amount detection for each region of a different size is repeated until it can be determined. Detection can be performed.
[0008]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a block diagram illustrating an image processing apparatus according to this embodiment. In other words, this image processing apparatus mainly includes a copying machine that reads an image of a document and outputs it to a medium such as paper. In particular, the image processing apparatus detects an amount of background from the read image of the document and detects an FCOT (First Copy).
It is characterized in that the influence on (Output Time) can be suppressed.
[0009]
The image processing apparatus shown in FIG. 1 includes a U / I (user interface) 1, a detection power range threshold
[0010]
The U / I 1 is composed of a display such as a liquid crystal and a touch panel provided thereon, and is a part that gives a predetermined instruction or displays an internal state by an operation of a user or a service person. In this U / I1, it is possible to instruct the FCOT or the background detection range.

[0020]
Next, the flow of processing in the image processing apparatus of the present embodiment configured as described above will be described. First, a user (including a machine administrator or a service person) instructs the FCOT or the background detection range by U / I1.
[0021]
For example, when a document in a frequently used document reading mode needs to have a large background detection range, a detection range in a predetermined document reading mode (for example, a character photograph mode) is set large. At this time, the FCOT is displayed on the display of the U / I 1 so that the time can be confirmed. Further, the background detection range may be designated only for the next reading operation instead of the document reading mode. In the following description, it is assumed that 10 mm from the leading edge of the document reading start is set as the background detection range.
[0022]
Next, image data input processing is performed by the
[0023]
In parallel with the processing in the first
[0024]
For example, when the first size is 1 mm × 1 mm (for example, 16 pixels × 16 pixels in the case of 400 dpi), the first
[0025]
Further, the second
[0026]
The background amount for each region determined by the first background amount extraction unit 11 and the second background
[0027]
Next, the background amount determination unit 6 determines an optimum background amount for the entire image data of the document. That is, the background amount determination unit 6 creates a histogram of the background amount for each region determined by the first background amount extraction unit 11 and the second background
[0028]
Here, the density areas of the histogram may be overlapping density areas such as 70% to 50% and 60% to 40%, for example. If there is a density range exceeding a predetermined threshold (for example, all frequencies × 0.5), the representative value of the density range is determined as the background amount of the entire document.
[0029]
The background amount determination unit 6 uses the background amount histogram determined for each region determined by the first background amount extraction unit 11 to search for a concentration region that exceeds the threshold, and if there is a concentration region that exceeds the threshold, The representative value of the density area is determined as the background amount of the entire document. If it cannot be determined here, a predetermined threshold value is set using the background amount histogram determined by the second background
[0030]
FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram for explaining changes in area division. That is, as a result of dividing the region with the first size shown in (a), extracting the background amount in each region, creating a histogram, and performing threshold calculation using this histogram, the threshold value is obtained. If there is no density region exceeding the value, threshold calculation is performed using a histogram obtained by region division with the second size shown in FIG.
[0031]
In the present embodiment, since there are only two types of areas to be divided, the density area exceeding the threshold value is determined by the histogram of the background amount in any of the divided areas.
[0032]
Note that the size of the divided region may be gradually increased from the first size described above to the second size. In the present embodiment, an example is shown in which the area is divided into the first size and the second size in advance and the background amount in each area is extracted. However, the area is divided into the first size. If the background amount is extracted and the background amount determination unit 6 cannot determine the background amount of the entire document, the region division larger than the first size is retried, and the background amount extraction and histogram in this region are used. The calculated threshold value may be repeated until the background amount of the entire document can be determined.
[0033]
Such stepwise region division makes it possible to detect the background amount with high accuracy even in a partial range of the input image. In addition, since the amount of background can be detected without using all of the input image, the influence on the FCOT can be suppressed.
[0034]
After the background amount of the entire document has been determined, the background amount is sent to the
[0035]
In such a background removal detection and background removal processing flow, the background amount determination unit 6 changes the threshold value for determining the background amount using a histogram according to various conditions.
[0036]
For example, when the color document detection unit 4 determines that the document is color, the information is sent to the background amount determination unit 6 to correct the threshold value sent from the detection
[0037]
Further, if the image processing apparatus can detect the size of the document when the document is placed on the platen, the first
[0038]
For example, the threshold value is set to a value corresponding to ½ of the document detection area, and the threshold value is set by calculation according to the document size. Further, by removing the edge of the document from the range of the area division, it is possible to eliminate the influence of the tearing and misalignment of the document.
[0039]
Further, the region division range (background amount detection range) may be determined by the arrangement of the original on the platen. For example, if a document is present at the home position on the platen, the home position +10 mm is set as the background detection range. If the document is not placed at the home position (the document cannot be detected), the document size in the sub-scanning direction is detected by the sensor. Then, for example, +10 mm is set as the background detection range based on the position of the document.
[0040]
If the size of the document placed on the platen is not obtained at all, the entire set document size is set as the background detection range.
[0041]
As described above, a highly accurate background so that the FCOT is not affected even in various forms of the document by changing the detection range of the background amount, the size of the area division, the threshold value depending on the document type, etc. according to the size of the document. Quantity detection can be performed.
[0042]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the present invention has the following effects. That is, since the background amount is determined by stepwise region division, it is possible to detect the background amount with high accuracy even in a partial range of the input image. In addition, since the amount of background can be detected without using the entire input image, it is possible to suppress the influence on the FCOT.
